Right went down to Ajec racing today as there was an audi sport net meet and had my 3.2 run on the rolling road> read out showed 235.1bhp and the guys said that it was about right as they couldn't hold the gears as long as a manual and they thought according to the read out that it was running very rich? They suggested a re-map would sort this and said it would be about £450......

If the car is running rich is there no other way to adjust this other than a remap and make it run leaner???:ermm:

Here are the printouts I got

The guys down at Ajec seemed real nice and it was only £35 a run.. Nice to see a far few other audisport members there.

...SO they think they can DOUBLE it with only a fairly small fuel trim and a normally aspirated re-map???

Am I misunderstanding something, or am I going out of my mind???

:tocktock:

A remap on a 3.2 won't net you much at all.

Find a rolling road who know what they're talking about, because the person you were speaking to is obviously perfectly willing to make confident pronouncements on things about which he plainly knows NOTHING.

-Seriously, Maybe they're cheap because there are idiots working there?

I wasn't looking at increasing the BHP went just to see what my car was now puting out , its completely standard and I have only had it for 6 weeks so was more a case of curiosity.

They mentioned that the fuel was running rich and a re-map would sort it. I know that the 3.2 isn't a very tunable motor unless you start talking big bucks and that doesent interest me however if the car is running rich I assume that will be affecting my mpg! I am not willing to pay 450 for a re-map as thats just silly but if the car is running rich would like to sort that and wondered if anyone had any knowledge of how to adjust the fuel mix??

Tom...
the reason he is cheap on the RR session is his remaps are a stupid price. I paid £280 for a remap but frankly its a total waste of time on a standard car as the Audi map has had a ton of research spent on it and will run best for your car..Always run Tesco 99 in it (its worth10bhp) and dont take any notice of the rich bit unless its really blowing black smoke or your fuel consumption is chronic.

Cheers for that Paddy, I had taken great interest in you post about the 3.2 the other day good reading... :applaus:
I do always run shell v power or if can do shell always the super unleaded option. Getting arround 25mpg out of her at present which I thought that was pretty standard?

I have not interest in increases in power at present and just wanted to see what the old girl was putting out as she is now 3yrs old and wanted to see if she had lost many horses. Was fairly pleased with the rr readout and was only concerned as they had mentioned the running rich.

In my opinion a remap will not address the problem of it running rich. Running rich will lose you a bit of power and getting the mixture right could bring you back too 245 bhp which is about right. check you air cleaner is not clogged.
You need to find out why its rich rather than just adjust it. ie its probably getting a bad reading from a airflow sensor or a C02 sender or the like. thats what you need to find out and covering the problem up with a remap is not going to do that.
Vagcom looks like your first step.

edit...you MOT will show it up if its really rich...

Thanks for that Paddy, will check the air cleaner in a bit. Nigel is fitting his RNS-e and FBMFSW on monday which I have bought off him so would have thought he'll be hooking up the vagcom then so will see if he can check for that at the same time. Thanks for your help Paddy much appreciated and to the point!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

I was thinking that he he said "a remap would be 450" that meant horsepower.

I didn't see the "£" in front of the number, which is.. well, you know... a bit of a clue.

I read it as meaning 'a remap and a fuel trim and you'll be at 450 horsepower' which would -of course- be absolute tosh.

My fault entirely... never mind me!!! :jump:

Nige is your top man for vagcom Tom. I fitted an RNS-e and FBMFSW and its an excellent improvement. the best money you can spend on upgrades in my opinion. :)

See? -Now we have our answer! :icon_thumright:

To be honest I never connected the 450 with quid, because that's the most expensive remap I think I've ever heard of!

-No wonder they can afford to 'give away' dyno sessions! :)
