does anyone know how easy one is to fit? and where can i pick one up from as my window is stuck on closed and wont go up!

Do you mean it's stuck on closed and won't go down ??? or stuck on open and wont go up??? if it's the later there's a plastic clip that breaks and stops the window going up.... it's a common problem and you can get stronger uprated clips off ebay....

where abouts is the clip? it is stuck on open. managed to force it back up.

This contains all you need to know - a very simply job if you follow the instructions and you save a fortune over a regulator if you just need to replace the clips.

how do i know the difference between the clips and the regularator?

Does your window try and go up? Mine would go up a bit then down.

If you take the door card off you can probably see if the clips are broken and if the motor is still trying to move the window - easier if the windows down though unfortunately.

yer tries to go up then goes bk down again. ill try take the door card off and have a look.

cool i will definatly have a shot to see if i can see anything! if the clips are all intact does that mean the regulator?

It will be the clips... trust me.... just remember when you take out the mechanism to mark the position of the aluminium wedges that shim it all as these can effect the fit of the door as i found out the hard way...

ok i accidently wound down the window again on the way to work so decided to try and take the dorr card off to check it out. i undid the 2 side screws and the screw under the pulling handle but the door card still wont budge! are there any other hidden screws? i also managed to loose the unlocking poping up thing! hahaha what an awsome way to start the day

I wonder if this is the cause of the veeeery long term fault my A3's had -- the passenger window motor sounds as if it's working fine, it comes down (opens) fine, then struggles to get back up sometimes.

It sort of gets so far up and then it gets stuck and goes back down (presumably as if it's detected something stuck in the window).

You can guide the window back into place - like toward the front of the car as it's rising to make it close all the way. Does that sound like a clip-related thing?

hmm possibly not as mine wont go up at all and sounds like everyone else with the clip problem doesnt either! but maybe someone else knows

might be worth taking the door card off to have a look though! if you can work out where all the screws are hahah

ok pulled the door card off at work was quite straight forward in the end! as far as i can see the right hand clip seems a bit loose and not grabbing the window do you think thats what it is

how easy are they to actually change your self?

Follow the guide(s) and you really can't go wrong. Only things of real importance though are to make sure you have the tools you need (T45 and T10 torx, plus common screwdrivers, to mark the wedges when you take the sub frame out of the door, and that removing the old clips and putting the new ones in is much easier having removed the motor first (undo the screws and you just can lift it off the subframe) so that you can move the cables. This is covered in the guides though

I'm not sure if I've got the skills to be confident in taking the door down to it's subframe, especially as I've got an Escort Van currently occupying the garage on a permanent basis. Don't ask!

My car maintenance skills extended to changing windscreen wipers before I did mine. I must admit that when I realised removing the sub frame would result in frame less door shells I was a little nervous, especially as it was very wet and windy. If you read the guide though it is actually really simple. You basically undo some stuff, change the clips and then do it back up again. I was quoted in the region of 300 (for both sides) by every garage I tried, so for a tenner on clips and 2 or 3 hours work I was well pleased. I must admit that I did book it into the garage in case it went wrong though - as I needed the clutch doing anyway I let them know I would be trying to sort the windows and that I might need them to save the day!

i ordered my clips from audi on saturday, cost me 5.50 posted for 2! as soon as they come through i will give them a shot and take pictures if that helps? and also let you know any problems i come across. i have never done anything like this before so its completly new for me!

ok i fitted the clips today! wasnt an easy task but wasnt to hard either! the uprated clips are completly different to the old ones but have 2 holes in so i put a small screw through each one so it would hold ( as other wise it was to loose!)

did an audi dealer post them for you ?
they said to me they dont post
i had to travel to my nearst dealer to pick them up

the guy at the dealer just put a stamp on them! they arent meant to but he did:)
