Audi A6 Bi-Xenons so you dont miss a bargin

Rather than start a new thread i thought that it would be better to ask the question here.

Firstly hello all, just joined the board, though have been an Audi owner for about three years (2000 S8 5v whcih i have just chopped for a diesel !)

Anyhow, i am interested in these lights as my '08 3.0 TDi LM doesn't have Xenons fitted to it. What i am wondering in whether it is a straight swap (with the additional cable linked to in the advert), or does the car have to be re-programmed at all?

May seem like a strange question, but i know that a 5 series needs told what kind of lights are fitted as it is expecting certain signals to be send back to the ECU for fault monitoring.

Ta.

Thanks for that. It was worth asking the question then ;)

Ouch! just had a look at the link and i thought that only a 50 Euro adapter cable was required. I guess that you could do that but wouldn't have the auto levelling system.

You need the AFS module (that controls the auto levelling) and the two sensors. you may get these cheaper direct from Audi, but the loom would have to come from Kufatec.

Sorry, maybe i'm being obtuse, but reading your ad again it says that the headlight units come with
Audi A6 (C6 4F) Xenon Headlights with Xenon bulbs, ballast units and AFS module for Auto leveling

So i would only need the harness and the sensors.

Ah OK. So i'm not going mad after all :)

Guess i just need to price the sensors from Audi then. I'm sure that will get my eyes watering !

From what i have gleaned from the Audi parts department i need front and rear self levelling sensors that fit in the wheel arches (presumably to map suspension travel). As you've taken the system out to fit the RS6 lights can you confirm that this is the case?

Thanks.

Much as there are reglations regarding the cleaning of the units, it will not stop you from fitting these to your car.

There are any HID conversion kits available on the market, but m=none of them require the fitting of washer systems. And there are many reports that people have had no experience of MOT failures with this type of upgrade.

I know that the UK (or is that EU) regulations state that you need auto-levelling and headlamp wash to operate HID headlights. I've also heard stories that the iimport boys were removing HID headlights and replacing them with Halogen units to get through an SVA, the re-fitting the HIDs.

I would have thought it highly unlikely that your average MoT centre would even know you had them fitted. IN fact my Integra Type R Jap Import was Moted by a Honda dealer and they didn't pick up on the fact that there was no height adjustment or washers!

Not withstanding that, I'd rather have the self levelling installed if i was going down the upgrade path. I'll decide once i pick up the car on Saturday whether to bother or not. Oh and it has headlamp wash in the spec anyhow (Avant Le Mans)

look it up on th DVLA website: it is an offense for a garage to fit HID's or for somebody to operate a vehicle with HID's if there is no self-levelling system* and washer system.

* self levelling can be on the lights OR the actual suspension as per some Estate/Avant cars.

No reports of cars failing MOT's, but the cops are pulling people over for it: I think they're focussing more on the guys in early Saxo's and Mk3 Golfs that have the reflector (non-projector) lenses as they're obviously very dangerous and often blinding to oncoming traffic.

All the newer A6's have Projector headlights, so as long as you have the self-levelling, I doubt you're likely to get in too much trouble for it as it's just the washer system that you'll be missing and that's more for you.

As i said, in the EU you need auto levelling lights and headlamp wash, so i dont need to read the DVLA site :)

I'd be surprised that the cops were pulling people over for having badly adjusted HIDs, i mean when was the last time you saw them pulling some ar5e over for driving on sides and fog lights? A little pet hate of mine.

And no, all new A6's do not come with projector headlights. The 08 plate Le Mans I have just bought has standard reflector headlights, but does have the headlamp wash. Which lets face it is the most difficult bit to retro fit to a non HID setup.
