BDM K04 Hybrid Turbo from Back Draft...

Thoughts/Experiences on/with?

Also, what other hybrid solutions are there for the K04... Looking at my options for next year and trying to get a better overall picture of the options other than GT25/28.

Jbs, CR turbos, forgot the other's though, think theres 1 or 2 more that do them.

From what i've read the reliablity of some hybrid turbo's can be slightly suspect. If I were you i'd save up the extra pennies and get a GT28rs kit. They dont work out as expensive as you might think, especially if you do some of the work yourself.

I'll be doing all the work myself.... All part of the fun! Much more satisfying when you've done it yourself.

However - the reason for the K04 hybrid would be the ease of change... they can produce 300+ bhp also, and with the right map, I feel that it would be better for me all round...

Also, the difference between a GT28 kit and a hybrid K04 is roughly £1200. Which is a LOT of extra pennies!

Lol, yea £1,200 would get some nice coilovers and ARB's! From what i've read the max you can realistically get from a hybrid is 280/290 bhp?

There are quite a few Cupra R and Titty boys running that sort of figures on a stage 2 map. S3 Kev got some good figures from a stage 2.

I'll be going for Stage 3 with a hybrid, so hopefully 300 ish but I guess it depends until it's all bolted on to be fair.

Im hopefully going to be stage 2 soon after xmas and maybe middle next year I will go hybrid.

Thats when I shall be doing mine also :)

Once i've saved the 1.8 trillion punds it shall cost. Still, I can never seem to get enough power!!

BT can be done cheaply (I know a man who has :eyebrows:)

Considering you have most of the kit already in place on yours then hybrid is the next sensible/cheaper step.

Personally, I am glad I didn't... not just because of the extra power I got because of going BT but I think all things considered, I wouldn't have been happy with the power I got from a hybrid and would still have incurred most of the cost as I would have needed a DP, exhaust, mapping, gaskets etc and most likely rods...

Bear in mind the K04 mani is aweful and ironically there are batter aftermarket manis for K03's which is what all the Ibizas boys do and get the same power as a hybrid S3. Granted JBS are looking to release one at some point but by the time you pay for that and the hybrid turbo, you are most of the way to a BT of some description which is why I went that route...

Just something to think about..

I'll grab you for 5 mins on Saturday Paul if you don't mind having a bit of a natter about it....

i have been thinking about going hybrid and using the jbs manifold for ages but the manifold has taken so long to be produced i ended up going stage2 and tbh doubt there is much gain for £££'s on going hybrid without the manifold and possibly injectors which you'd then need stage3 mapping for, hybrid on its own wont be worth it imo wait and get the manifold etc.. to do it properly but you still be limited as the torque spikes mean the mapping will have to be tamed down otherwise you run the risk of conrod failure, and if replacing rods you may as well go big turbo??
im going back to custom code for phase2 mapping on friday (not happy with AMD mapp) and if its anything like the AMD when its going well im not bothering with hybrid just dont think there will be any need

as we have said many times, bring the car back to us to find out what the problems but for some reason you will not do this?
