This morning ive decided to replace my thermostat but can i find where it is, can i heckers like??? My car is a 99 tdi (non pd). I was thinking it was the unit at the side of the block the one with the 3 prongs coming off it but it seems a little small looking at the thermostat and gasket euro parts supplied me with???
Cheers guys

not sure this is any help to you but i have a a4 tdi 2002 and it is beneath the inlet elbow/cover on the lefthand side of the cylinder block not sure if its in the same place though or just type in the car you have on line and what your looking for and it will come up.

It'll be where to coolant hose goes into the block,....from the top of the rad I would have thought.

Its from the bottom hose of the rad. The top hose contains coolent that has come from the engine.

Let us know if you can get the hose going to the stat hot after you installed it as im having trouble with mine lol.

PMSL!!! Funny you should say that, yes i am mine is ****** cold now. Dam it wish i had left it alone

LOL give it a run for half hour and see if it warms. Mines been like it for past few weeks and most my components around my engine are only warm to touch. Im going to drop the coolant and refill the hole system slowly.

after seeing my neighbour fit mine (and im not shy with technical stuff)..... id pay for my next one to be fitted, 2 hours labour....one of the worst things to fit on these damn cars (assuming the diesel isnt to diff to an S3 in positioning of the stat)

I'll second this. I tried it on my own, got massively frustrated and lobbed the socket set across the driveway in anger! My girlfriends step dad then stepped up and changed it over, making it look like the easiest job in the world. :respekt:

Access to the bottom bolt was a right sod on mine too. Much swearing, huffing and determination got it off.

Nightmare job.

I aint got the smallest of hands but I thought it was well easy to do. Took me no more than 25 min start to finish.

:iagree:Very ristricted, I did it last month and even though it is only 4-5 bolts all in, it took me just over 2 hours.:lazy:

IF you have the exact tools for the job id imagine it would be easier....that said im always putting my tools with my neighbours which depends which tools hes brought from work (keeps his main tool box in the works garage)
