Post your recommended tyre pressures here

The question of tyre pressures comes up pretty regularly so I thought it was time we made a thread dedicated to it. If it's a good thread then I'll post a link to it in the FAQs thread.

All I would like is for you to put the car type & engine, wheel/tyre size (unless it's obvious like on the S3), the front and rear pressures you are running and then a remark about that setup if you like.

Please don't make any comments or ask questions, you can ask them in another thread.

I'll start:

'08 S3 3DR (standard wheels)

Front 38 PSI Rear 34 PSI.

I tried a few pressures but this setup gives me a good balance of grip when running hard and comfort on the long runs.

Might it also be an idea for folk to say what they use to measure the pressure given that a lot of garage forecourt gauges are inaccurate?

Tyre fitters set mine to the ones on the fuel filler flap.......erm, whatever they are....(will check and post later)

If you're not 100% that your pressures are what you think they are then don't post them :icon_thumright:

Follow the directions in the fuel cap lid ! works for me ie: 18" 225/40 38psi/38psi.. ish

225/40-18 on a 2.0TDi - 33F 30R, as per the fuel flap.

I've tended to run at about 10% higher than that for most of the last couple of years (mainly because others on this forum were suggesting they were using higher pressures), but my tyres have worn in the middle, suggesting that I was running at too high a pressure, so with a new set of Contis fitted, I've reverted to the recommended pressure on the fuel flap....

Cool thanks, so am I right in thinking that a diesel would need a higher pressure than a petrol due to the additional weight, or would it need less? It says 42 front 36 rear as recommended pressures for my car inside the door, but I don't like those pressures. I'm currently running 38 f and 34 r and still not convinced...

My 2.0TDI S-Line with standard 18" wheels has an extra "18-inch" sticker on the fuel flap that says 33 front and 30 rear!

Others have been suggesting their cars suggest higher pressures, but that's what Audi have stuck onto my fuel flap....

(And having run 24000 miles on my last set of Contis at approx 35PSI on the front, they're actually worn in the centre of the tread suggesting that they were running slightly over inflated....)

I run 18x8 alloys with 225 40 18 tyres and have 40psi all round. At MOT in September my tread was 6.66mm on both rears and 5.56mm on both fronts. Gues I may have this right along with my tracking.

fronts are normally 2-4 psi higher due to the extra weight on the front end so the car is better balenced

40 profiles are quite low tbh.if your not sure just stick with what is says inside the fuel cap

Also depends on the tyres if you have XL tyres ,extra load, as fitted to some diesels i believe the pressure is increased .

On my 2011 S3, the door sticker says for 3 ppl and light luggage, 43psi F and 33 R. That's on 225/40/18. Pressures that I am not used to seeing, thats for sure. I had 18's on my Subaru and only went up to 34 psi F. I actually queried it with Audi as I was not used to seeing that high figures.

What was the outcome to your query with Audi? Did they say they were the correct pressures to be used?

Does anyone on here who runs 19's have any recommended pressures. Don't fancy running 43 psi in the fronts as my teeth will fall out.

Running 36psi front 33 rear at present.

If anyone on here with an RS3 could check the prescribed pressures in their flap or handbook I'd be really grateful.

I don't think you are too far away Warren....obviously haven't got an RS3, but I run 36/34 in my 225/35 19's on my S3 BE sportback and it seems about right....certainly no uneven wear when I took the wheels off to put on the winters a month or so ago, and the ride/handling is spot on for me.
