Looking at upgrading my wireless home network and also buying the new xbox 360 wireless adapter which supports 802.11n.

I currently have a G+ MIMO wireless belkin router but would like to upgrade to an N+ Or N1 network for better speed and performance.

Can anyone recommend and good N or N1 router so far ive been looking just at belkins and am attracted by this in particular.

Can't suggest a particular make/model for you but the 802.11n standard can operate at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz and to get the network operating at optimum speed both ends need to be the same and not a mixture - if you mix them the network will still work it just defaults to a lower transfer rate. Not too sure which one the Xbox runs at though.

Problem is there's not alot of dual band all in one units, most are routers so no adsl modem built in.

Are you on cable or adsl?

I use the N1 Vision adsl modem/wifi/router, atm the 802.11N has only just been properly ratified with the proper wifi alliance, so I expect new products to arrive soon, but lets be clear here, I always have the latest & tbh they're far from what they preclaim, reminds me of cars lol.

Benefit of Belkin is they offer lifetime guarantee.

So get the N1 Vision adsl modem for adsl:

or the newer N+ for cable as this is dual band so better overall.

Personally I've had number of N speed routers, they're all crap interms of signal area & dont do anywhere near as far signal as they advertise, even had lawsuits cause of this against belkin in the states & it cost them a fair whack.

But they will do for you mate.

How do you get on with your n1 vision mate?

I have read mixed reviews about these!, although i like the look of the digital screen on the front.

Do you think it would be best to wait for that other one you showed me or is this more than sufficient?

How far do you want to use it as I find they're not as cracked up as they look, but then again I probably expect to use it in Paris lol, the display is stupid anyway as most people have the routers not in front of them to press silly buttons, I got cause it was latest N speed one out, but hasnt inspired me as such, but I actually got mostly for the gigabit ports for my NAS system, which works very fast, wifi is fine for 99.99% of people, so go for it.

Never got on with Belkin stuff, I have been considering getting a Draytek 2820 as it can also be used as a NAS/FTP server, how cool is THAT!

Thing is my 2800 is so reliable I dont actually have any reason to change it.

Yeah but I would hazard a guess thats in the form of a usb port converting to an ip address, so needs a usb drive attached to it, I prefer the NAS route directly, easier for me to admin, plus using raid 5 I get secure data, the router usb/nas port isnt as secure I reckon unless you have a device attached that has redundancy.

Synology all the way & for many years now, amazing unbits & believe me this, I tested fair few.

Edit- yeah is via usb, urrm not best route but works for most I guess, also that router would be like a cisco to config with the options it has, lmao

They're really easy to configure, nowhere near as tricky as cisco, and you could use a USB HDD on that port, not just a memory stick.

I like the fact it also has VPN endpoints (32) capability. Not many routers offer that.

Right i think iv'e found the perfect wireless N Dual Band router.

Linksys by Cisco WRT610N Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router

Looks and sounds amazing, combine this with the new dual band wireless N xbox 360 adapter and games on Modern Warfare 2 shoudl be brilliant!

Just have to upgrade to a 50mb connection next.

Cool, but beware cause internal antennas are usually sub par, but its a cisco company so hopefully there skills/quality for internet routers has filtered down considering alot of there high end units run the net overall.

Loads of their stuff is being replaced with extreme now...

Swings & roundabouts tbh doesnt it Chris, one minute its cisco, then someone else, who cares as long as it works.

But, 300mbps my rse I tell yer, everyone I've tested are below par, the connection reports 300 but the throughput is nowhere near even if right next to the damn thing with excellent signal

Noticed Belkin changed there wireless coverage images on the site & boxes a while ago when N came out to make N look so marvelous even though G seemed to be almost same distance at 1st, lol, either that or the lawsuit had a stipulation, but still they all suck when comes to range, N is supposed to work into the next town, lol, fat chance, but for now given house size it will do.
