Hi forum,

I'm side stepping across from the S3 forum, where I was loitering during my search for an S3 and ended up getting an S4.

So i've bought a black saloon on a W plate (2000) and picking up car on thurs, can't wait..

In the mean time I do have a couple of questions..

Were chrome wing mirrors an OE option in this year? If so where can I source some..? (I like them on the black models)

The only fault (that I spotted) on the car is the on-board display (like all audi's i guess), is this an easy fix? Can anyone point me in the right direction for a repair? Do I go to main dealer?

Also boot spoilers..were these an oe option, if so again any pointers would be appreciated (pics even better)..

Any advice appreciated..
J.

:sign_welcome: the DIS is a common fault, try http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx iirc its around £200 no need to re-program the immobilser. you will have to take out the cluster and send it to them, so you wont be able to use the car while they have it.

There have been some DIY fixes but dont recommend them from the A3 forum. or you can buy a new cluster i wouldnt recommend a used one as will prob suffer from same problem, then you will need a vag tacho lead to re-program the immobilser

ally mirrors were an option, i expect you can get some from ebay, but theyll probably look chavvy

Thanks Ras will check this out, concerned about long it will take though as need car to go to work, i'll give them a call and find out..

Hi and Welcome :) can we have some pictures of the car :)

Will get pics up probably the weekend once i've collected it and had time to get it spick and span....

that is my worry Matt, last thing I want is to look chavvy, is OE only option then?

Thanks J.

yup, oe only and the ebay ones ive seen are "chrome" where as in real life they were brushed aluminium, so be careful what you get

hows the rest of the car? standard?

Inpro (I think) do some matt alu looking mirrors. You can find them on eBay and I think they look good.

I've got matt alu mirrors on my Ming Blue S4 and they look much better than the chrome mirrors I previously had fitted.

chrome mirrors make baby jesus cry

ally ones are on my "to do" list, once ive done the milltek

Shiney silver anything is ghey imo

I've removed as much of it as possible from my car, stuff adding more!

Ok thanks for the tip, the S3 ones are chrome aren't they? I think thats the image i had in my mind, but its got to oe standard so brushed it is.
Rest of the car is great, and completely virgin (if you know what I mean).
Don't think I'll adventure too far away either just yet, but we'll see. Would be interested in any subtle 'easy' mods though that you could advise?

ha ha ha, yeah I know what you mean, but I've come from a nice chromey A6 so always been used to it. Also I can't help thinking that its just a little too subtle, looks wise, and being black I though 'shiney' mirrors will break it up a little ?

I just fitted silver painted mirrors off a silver car for the same effect :)

They look good Dan, nice motor ! (I really wanted a noggy avant, but settled for black saloon, can't have everything I suppose)

Would like the brushed alloy look though, I've just realised that ebay link I posted above was for B8 models, so guess they won't fit anyway?

Ras, Company looks good, but miles away, I guess I'd be forced to send away but may struggle without car..

Don't suppose any west midlands based companies exist out there?

probably but i would ONLY go with a company from recommendation

How much more expensive would the dealers be, you reckon?

I did matey, seems a really good company, but too far away, I would prefer the fix as you wait service if possible (well same day turnaround at least)...

BBA Reman are pretty quick to turn things around. JCB got his ABS controller fixed within a 2 or 3 day turn around if i remember correctly. Just hire a cheapo hire car for the time your's is off the road waiting for the cluster to come back.

Just got back from collecting car....

First impressions after the 70 mile run = what a stonkin car !

Felt tight, awsome handling, engine was sooo quite and smooth and gearbox good (although took some gettin used to after my a6 auto).

Of 70 miles half was motorway and half A roads with some experimental overtakes which promply followed by a "Jesus".

And to top it all off 29.9 mpg for entire journey "better than my 2.8 A6 !".

This is car (model) is such a well kept secret ! !
