Heated Seats - retro fit?

Hi there,

New on here and new to audi's...so hello!

I'm picking up an S3 this weekend which didnt come with heated leather. Current owner replaced the seats with black heated leather...so my question is, do you think the loom is the same?

And if so, could it just be dash switches and maybe a relay i'm missing?

Appreciate i'm bucking a trend here, given that most S3 owners are looking to lose weight...but living in Scotland, its kinda a must.

Any info would be appreciated. And anyone looking to lose weight is welcome to my blank dash in exchange for theirs.

Just did this upgrade to my A6. If the car did not have heated seats in originally, then they will not have the loom or the switches on the Climate control panel.

You will need the seats with elements in, the new climate panel, and the loom that can be purchased from http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_...eating---Harness---Audi-A3-8P---8P-Sport.html

Its not a difficult job, it took me two hours to do, and that was taking my time.

I've not got a climate panel with heated seat switches unfortunately, but if you do manage to do it and would be willing to let your non-heated seat panel go for a few bob then let me know!

Dave you're best bet will be getting one from a scrappy. Also dont get the loom in the link above as that is for the 8P platform and not the 8L.

Also, does anyone know the significance of the final digit of the part number? Its usually a letter...i've seen H, N, etc. Think it may have something to do with trim colour, but not sure.

The A4 panel should fit your A3,

The final number will be the revision. But from memory all these units were in Black.

That kufatec site says: Almost all Recaro-Seats have built-in heating elements.

Is this likely to be true? The seats will have the elements in them but just now wired up? Seems unlikely to me tbh...

Not sure about if they all have them built in, but in the 'a3_interior.pdf' guide that used to be available at http://audi.lanzz.org, there was a guide on retro-fitting the elements to the seats.

However it does involve a major dismantling of the seats. Not particularly complicated, but a bit fiddly and time consuming. I may look to repair mine at some point as the drivers slide out cushion element no longer works.

Can't see it...although elements can be retro fitted as said earlier.

I thought i'd solved the dash switch problem by replacing it with an A4 climate panel which seems more readily available...but turns out panel is a different shape, so back to the drawing board on that one.

As it stands, i'm still looking for the dash panel and black leather heated seats in exchange for my seats/dash and a few quid. A couple of hours would see them swapped over.

So....come on, where are all the weight loss boys/girls when you need them? Who's ready to put their money where their mouth is?? (or should that be my money?!)

Have you checked how much the part is from Audi? I'm sure it will eye wateringly expensive like but if you want it that bad...

So we know where to get the loom from, where do you get the actual heating elements from??
