Trackday - Bedford Autodrome - 28/11

Aha you've answered my question from the the thread lol

I'm in.
We need 8 more ....

If other members are interested in going along I would be quite happy to go along as well, but purely as a spectator. I have no wish to do any track driving but the Bedford Autodrome is only a few miles away from where I live.

hmmmm quite tempting, ive never done a trackday so im just wondering how much wear it would put on brakes/tyres/clutch etc?

Too far for me or I would for sure. Enjoy.

The beauty of open pit lane is you do as much as you feel comfortable with, I tend to go out for 15/20 mins then come in for the same period of rest, gives the car and brakes etc time to cool off, if you are sensible you will have no issue with excessive tyre or pad wear.

15/20 mins doesn't sound a lot but its more than enough then you can come in and have a cuppa with David and the rest of the Guy attending.

Right I'm 100% on this. And a possible +1 in a Scooby

Excellent news just call motorsport vision and book under group name Spin, we have 7 at the minute but need 10 people to get the 10% discount. MSV will take payment details over the phone but not take payment until all names are recieved, in other words if we don't make the required 10 we pay full price.

click on the link earlier in the thread for details, my S3 goes on Thursday 19th so I'll be a TTs, nice way to get aquainted :)

Ok will do! Looking forward to it :icon_thumright:

Ok I finally got around to booking. Scooby mate has dropped out but my Elise mate might be in, although he just got a speeding ticket through from his journey to ADI

Anybody else interested in this ?

We have not had a good response so we may be paying full price :(

Bahhh!! Humbug.

This is annoying as too many people are keen to race on public roads yet when a cheap trackday shows they aren't keen.
I'm working...dammit.

My mate in his Elise messaged me today saying he was definitely in. He's bringing a girl who has an 8L S3 too. I've sent him the contact details.

Agreed Jase, £149 is not that expensive. It's before payday for many though.

I wouldn't mind coming along as a spectator in the afternoon as I'm working in the morning...

Is there a fee?

I just phoned the booking agent and apparently Bedford is the only track that doesn't have a spectator facility. The only real way in is to register as a passenger (£25) and then you can watch or be a passenger (with anyone) all day.

Well said :applaus:

Why aren't you going Nathan?? :)

Im interested in this just looked on the web site and there is 3 to choose from what one is it everyone is doing and how much is it and what day..

This saturday 28th November, you can book for the whole day at £149 (full price) or you can opt for just an am or PM session and pay half, I would suggest booking the whole day if a first timer and just take plenty of breaks between sessions, catering facilities are pretty good, bacon rolls available in the morning before the safety briefing and usually a really good lunch, £2 and £5.

You will need both parts of your licence and a helmet but you can hire a lid for £10.

One relly flexible thing MSV do allow at Bedford is you can share the day between 2 cars, basically you register for a full day, pay an additional £35 for a second driver then you use one car for one session then swap to the other car on the afternoon exchanging the entry number, only stipulation is both cars have to be sound checked and obviously not allowed on the track at the same time.

There are some good corners and a massive straight good for 130+ in a mapped S3.

A really enjoyable event for all abilities, makes and models, the events are well marshalled to ensure a good safe atmosphere.

I have no interest in roasting out my car on the track, I'll roast yours out though Leon :ninja::lmfao:

No chance!

Are you still going Spin? Just had a call from MSV and I'm the only one to have booked!

i would have but already booked the novice one at brands hatch this weekend!

Right my place is confirmed along with both my mates. Anyone else up for this?

hmmmm quite tempting, ive never done a trackday so im just wondering how much wear it would put on brakes/tyres/clutch etc?

Clutch - not much if you do your shifts properly. Hardly noticeable at all since you do not do standing launches on a track event. I think our clutch shares fluid with the brakes, so when the brake fluid is overheating, the clutch would feel weird as well.

Brakes - depending on track, and how late you want to brake. I drive like a grandma, and pads are still healthy after 3 events. But Sepang's long wide setup means I can get the porker of an s3 into quite high speeds before rubbing them off for the turn one after the other. Brake fluid boiling and pedal sponginess will come naturally on a stock setup, but no biggie if you come in to rest every 15-20 mins (which might sound like short, but isnt really). Dont forget our cars are ultimately pretty road cars at the end of the day, and was never really meant for the track.

Tyres - I find that putting 35psi on both the front and rear seems to wear the tyres evenly. On my first event, I increased the pressure from nominated (up to 40) as recommended by many, and ****** the middle threads. Dont go too fast into corners with your tyres screeching and you'll be alright.

Granted, this is coming from a guy who in an S3, is slower than a Mini Cooper and a honda civic, so take it with a pinch of salt.

Mate that is so funny and your signature is great too. Much respect. :salute:

Well said.

I feel like such a let down not going now but I just couldn't believe the lack of response off my fellow asn members plus the friends that asked me to organise the event in the first place (Non audi owners), I usually attend BMW car club events because the price is always discounted and the events are very well run with a real good bunch of characters, this event too would have been discounted if we made the numbers but 3 friends dropped out due to the festive season, Iggu understandably has other commitments and my car is still standard so I don't want to pay full price and attend with 75% of the car, sorry to let you down Staz but you will have an excellent time, let us know how you get on :)

Any good then Staz ?

Spent the day xmas shopping with the family, you can guess where I would prefer to have been !?!

I thought I'd just leave a little write up about this trip.

We arrive first thing and it was straight into a queue for the sound test. We booked in and then it was time for a safety brief:

After that it was a drive around to the pits:

Then when you're ready you go!

The track is very well thought out and as it's an old airfield there is plenty of run off all over. I've only had experience at Castle Combe (not as a driver though) and on the Nurburgring. BA is totally unreal though. There was a mixed bunch there from novice to experienced driver and so many seemed to be pushing themselves hard enough to get some sideways action which was great to see. Many span out but there's no drama doing that as you just drive back on and carry on. Not one single car was damaged.

For £35 they'll take you out in this:

It's 300bhp and it's RAPID. I went as a passenger in my mate's Scooby and the Jag went on just before us. By the time we'd got to the start of the straight it was already at the end of it (anti-clockwise).

A few great cars there too:

The R8 V10 went on ALL day. No show offs, just pure thrill seekers.

buisiness as usual then, so pleased you enjoyed it, now if only a few more would be tempted. great pics too .

Id like to do somethin like this and it sounded like a great track, the idea of plenty of run off sounds good to me, not that id like to be on the grass

Yep, anyone that's new to the game or is a little sensitive about their cars I would recommend Bedford 100%. There were a few times I overcooked it a little but there was so much room to get it back in line.

The photos were done by one guy and he wanted £30 for a disc with them all on, which is fairly reasonable compared to other photo sites (one 'Ring photographer wanted 15 euro for EACH!). I said I wasn't too bothered and so did my mate so he stuck both ours on for the same price. 46 photos in all :)
