Just wondering what other people are getting out their full tank of 1.9TDi diesel.....

Mine is a 53 Audi A4 1.9TDi Sport - had it now approx 2 months - i put £60 in 2 weeks ago (while it was on empty - almost) - the computer showed it would get me 540miles to begin with, this then dropped slowly over a period of 5days - by then i had done 50miles and it was showing i had 420miles available to do with the reminaing diesel.....

Its now on reserve with 10miles remaning, so on my way to put more disel in - the computer showing that iv done 395miles - so the maths show that my £60 got me 405miles....

Offcourse driving style and depending on how much local roads or m-ways you drive on - all impact the mpg differently....

Am i getting good economy?

I'd say no your not. I can't comment on what you should be getting but I have a 1.8T and get 480 & 520 miles to a full tank everytime which costs about £65.00 to fill.

thats not right, i have a 2.5 q and i get 350-450 miles depending on driving style and urban/motorway driving etc and thats on a 50 litre tank. my brother has a 1.9 130 se and he gets between 600 and 750 miles on a 60 litre tank. is yours quattro.

how much did fuel did you buy with £60.00

if it was £1.10 ltr

it is as follows (roughly)

60 / 1.10 = 54 ltr

54 / 4.54 = 11.8 gallons of fuel

405 / 11.8 = 34.3 mpg

get used to putting in actual litrs, rather than money amount -- it is easier to get an accurate idea of fuel consumption

my 2.5 tdi quattro does 38mpg

is it only a 50ltr -- i thought it was 60

wowwwwww..... am i missing out on somthing here? i have a 1.8t 190 a4 an i barely get 280-290 out of a full tank

cant say im lead footed i do give it a bit of poke now an then but the boy racer days are long gone......

ya from fuel light on to full is definately 50 litres. although i just checked the internet and it says 60 litres some pages say 70 litres and one said 50 due to making room for quattro system but mine is 100 per cent 50 litre tank. i`d be interested to hear from other 2.5 q owners( sorry off topic a little )

On my 1.9 TDi sport i reset the trip from a full tank and on average get around 10 miles per ltr (45 mpg ) , that's a mix of urban and motorway driving . On the motorway the comp can show 750 miles plus left in the tank , I'm happy with that . Oh and thats with the aircon on

I have a 2004 1.9tdi, I recently drove to La Rochelle, South West France, before I left I filled the car up £60 worth of Diesel, I managed to get home to Manchester over 650miles on a tank of Diesel and averaged 60mpg, not bad in anyones book!

Daily i get 45-50 mpg with a remap on A roads and town work .

i get about 630miles to a full tank... and thats drivin it hard... i averaged 59.4mpg the other day though in bad fog so obviously i was takin it easy

Well when i put the diesel in 2weeks ago - if i remeber correctly, it was £1.05p per litre - and i put £60 worth in - which didnt fill the tank exactly - the needle was a little away from full - so im guessing its £65 to fill!!

Iv put £60 in today, again - charged at £1.07p per litre - computer showed i would get 480miles....

Im slightly concerned - i feel as though im not getting enough for my diesel - i used to own 1.8Turbo engine cars - had a MK4 Golf (150ps) and then a SEAT LEON (180ps) - and whole point of buying a diesel was to offcourse save on the pennies - and get more economy....

Mine is the 130BHP 1.9TDi Sport, not the Quattro.

Mine doesnt show the MPG trip computer - well, at least i dont think it does - if anyone knows that it should - tell me how! - - all mine shows is what amount of miles i should/would get or have remaining - which i can reset myself....

What do you guys think? A service on the cards?

Also was wondering - how much does remapping a car improve economy?

Where did you get 50L from? My 03 2.5TDi Q has a 65L tank iirc - although even running the DIS down to zero I rarely get over 61 litres in.

Only SE's have the full DIS as standard, the Sports just have the DTE gauge as standard.

mine is late 2001, and the most i got in was 54 litres and i was running on fumes before i filled up dis said 0 for about 15 miles. so from fuel light coming on to full is always 50 litres. i just checked the owners manual and it says 66 litres but mines never taken anywhere near that.

The DIS is only a guide, there's a thread on here where people said how far they have gone with the DTE gauge reading zero - one guy did like an extra 70 miles or something! :respekt:

I've gone over by 11 miles and still only got 62 litres in - it's not a regular thing though!

So the 2.5's don't do anymore mpg than the 1.8's really?

Theres definately something fishy going on with my 1.9TDi then..........

What would you guys suggest - that maybe causing this?

I do put my foot down sometimes, but who doesnt!! I wouldnt say i drive hard all the time....

Do you suggest a service is due? Or do i need to add some sort of diesel additive? Its my first diesel............

is there a button on your steering wheel stalk on the right hand side?? where your indicator is?? that changes the DIS from mpg, miles left in the tank, instant mpg, along with a few other bits and bobs... my car is a 115bhp 1.9tdi non quattro and its been remapped... and i still get the figures i listed above...

maybe get it scanned with vagcom... my car badly needed a service there a while ago and even then i was still getting 45mpg average and 50 if i took it handy... so i dont think its a service issue

Thats the full DIS which doesn't sound like it's fitted to the OP's car.

Good idea to get it scanned though, it could be a sensor or anything causing it to run inefficiently.

I only get 32mpg out of my 1.9 quattro :( used to get 28mpg before it was remapped. I only drive round town and the occasional dual carridgeway.

Blimey mate, that aint right - I'd get the ode girl checked out as you should be able to easy add 10mpg to those figures!

I get around 41mpg on a full tank and around 500 - 520 per 60 litre tank.

i've got an avant 1.9 tdi . i must admit my mpg is rubbish as i only work 3 miles from where i live so will averge between 450 -5oo miles on a tank . but had to go to manchester on a course the other day and managed 637 miles on a tank which is really good especially considering i had my foot planted on the m40 sat behind a merc sl 55 amg at just under 130 mph.

In my 2.5 V6 Quattro I get a minimum of 300miles (if all town and very "enthusiastic") before the fuel light shows (so 50-55litres).... usually around 400-450 though with a mix of A-roads and traffic, if it was all gentle motorway driving I reckon 500 is easy and 550miles possible.

A friend has the 1.9TDI (FWD) and he gets a minimum of 600, often 700+ on a tank.... I think that's mostly town driving with a bit of A-roads, but he is a VERY chilled (slow) driver!! He reckons if he wanted he could get 800 on a tank, but that's going into the reserves...

I just recently got my 1.9tdi A4 Avant. On the first refill I managed 586miles on a full tank, just over 40MPG. Thats at about 50 miles a day mixed main and minor roads... we'll see what the next tank brings. So far it's looking at 650 miles to the tank..

Theres no faults on it whatsoever, clean bill of health on a full vagcom scan. I might change the MAF sensor as these rarely show up a fault but the live readings seem fine.

My record when I had a 1.9TDi 130 Sport Avant was 770 miles from a tank, which works out at an average of 50mpg.

I have a 1.9tdi 130 sport and also get terrible mpg, i usually put about £50 in and get about 380 - 400 miles from the tank. I do 26miles per day and around 20 of those are up and down a dual carriageway with roundabouts in between. Sometimes i start the day with 595 miles showing on the range, do a 26mile round trip for the day and get home and it shows about 380 miles left. Beats me ! :meeting:

My car was showing a coolant sensor fault though so maybe thats making it run too rich and in the process giving me terrible mpg ?

Gooner - what sort of accellerating are you doing on that? Unless you've got some pretty serious 160bhp+ remap AND you're nailing it pretty hard the whole time, you should be getting 550+ per tank!

I've gotten 43mpg out of the first tank full I've put into mine (it's a Quattro, too).

That was with some "testing", too :)
I expect that to go up, possiby with the aid of a remap/tuning box...

There is also a slightly different technique to driving diesels, which might account for some. Change gears a bit earlier, and let the torque pull you up, rather than revving up into the next gear.

I've just got through my first tank of fuel in my 2004 1.9 TDi 130 Avant, I got 550miles which I am quite pleased with as a lot of my mileage is around town usually. Certainly beats the 320 miles or so I used to get out of my old Avant 2.5 TDi Quatt.

Generally get 470 - 510 miles until the trip comp is nearly at zero, then fil it up and only ever get 65 litres in it, so presume I'd get another 30 miles if I ran it to empty, this is driving with a mixture of around town, heavy traffic, spirited driving, breif motorway trips (3 or 4 junctions). It really doesn't matter if I drive very carefully or have lots of fun when warmed up, it's always the same.

On the longer motorway trips where the traiffic is generally more free flowing and you can maintain a more constant speed for longer I've seen between 650 - 700 miles from the tank between fills.

This is for a FWD 1.9TDI.

Interesting you get 65L in Marc, what size is the fwd tank, is it bigger?

agreed! I'm pretty sure mine only takes 55 litres when get down to trip = 0 and the little fuel pump picture (usually after 400-odd mostly town miles).... and I'm pretty sure that's a 65 litre tank....
