Choppers and Grifters were s**t, let's be honest. BMX FTW!!

Can anyone show me what a 'grown-ups' BMX looks like, I ride a bike about 3 minutes per year but...

...wallet's itching :lmfao:

.....mountain bike?

...no like :3sadwalk:

I can't even look at a mountain bike without getting sweaty, distressed, out of breath and having a sharp pain in whatever you call that place between bumhole and ballbag

I want a BMX please...yes I'm nearly 32. Don't care :beee:

AKA Chin rest (for your Frau of course). :bye:

Dyson vacuum anyone? Sure it wasnt the first vacuum or even the first bagless one but most people who have ever had one know how easy to use and what a great design they are, also the customer service on them is pretty good, no fannying around. :)

GC unkle. Now I am no 'hoover' fan, but surely Mr Dyson revolutionised vacuuming as we know it; to the extent I would argue that people speak of Dyson as the new Hoover. We need an 'expert' evaluation of this by the board members...:)

Correct term = perinaeum
Other terms = "Grundlefold, "Barse", "Elephant Skin", "Smelly Bridge", "Sweaty Garden", "Cum Pad" and "Gentleman's Relish Patch".

WTF @ Grundlefold!

Still chuckling now. :beerchug:

Cheers Warren! Looks ideal for what I'd use it for too...i.e going the 1 mile into the village instead of taking the car. Bunny hoppin' (yeah right, I'll probably fall and break a hip)

Hmm, going to study the BMX site some more! One thing: I'd like Dysons a lot more if they weren't made of clear plastic and you couldn't see all your carpet fluff and filth and crud.

Yeah Dyson should be up there IMHO!

I think we're all looking at the list in different ways. Some of these things are brands and some are single items made by a brand. Some are known top items owned by some and others are just general things owned by many.

Are we looking for a certain brand that consistently produces top goods or for a specific item which has become an icon regardless of the other products made by that company?

I once wrote a Volvo off on my old Grifter.

It was the Xl version with the funky colour scheme.......perchow !!!

I was wearing a Gallini jumper and Pods at the time iirc:think:

It was a while back, when rectangles used to be called oblongs....

I'd love one of those Dyson hand dryers in the bog, frickin awesome and Im sooo lazy.

Saw them in Fabric in London and some services on the M1, they are IMMENSE!

The 'Airblade' thingy? First saw one at Alton towers a couple of years ago, and I agree, immense!

An air-hand-dryer thingy that actually dries hands, the same day as you first switch it on? :faint:

Had the basic upright Dyson, in fact `upright` isnt the best description as the ****** thing would topple over if if you just looked at it

Hence the handle broke, then the flexipipe split, and we were never blown (sucked) away by it hooverability, was a bit cack really.
I presume the new ones are better.

What was the question again?

Paul

I presume the new ones are better.

I've had about three or four of them, no problems so far all pretty nifty hoovers, at my gf's where I spend most of my time she has a 6 month old Electrolux piece of sh*t jesus what a pile of crap needs unblocking every 5 minutes!!!!! :(

Never hoovered before TBH.

Can only pass on the wifes comments.... :icon_thumright:

I shall be furious if the wench has given be a bum steer!

Gentleman please!!!....a vacuum cleaner, are we really a bunch of women!? I leave you alone to develop the list for a 24 hours and look what's become of you! A Dyson in my opinion doesn't make it to the list, and the reason is not because it's a good product, but the revolution was the Hoover in my opinion, and we all recognise that in the way we refer to vacuum cleaners as the "hoover" or "doing the hoovering".

Stanley Knife, Chevy V8, Thermos, all contenders as far as i'm concerned, nice and manly. iPod too actually, it's too young to be iconic yet, but it will be one day.

Mr Oir has a point `oovers` are a bit girlie like.

Thermos in there or what?

Mr Cox goes offline and the whole thing goes tits.

Talking of which, are Boobs on the list yet?

My long term ASN subscription depends on it.:motz:

Paul

Thermos for sure, i'll add to the list.

Boobs, well strictly not a product, but could be iconic...i'll add them to the list if we can decided on brand...or should I say who's boobs

Just so we know where we're at, i'll update:

1. Toaster: Dualit 4 slice
2. Trainer:Converse Chuck Taylor Allstars
3. Camera: Nikon D3X D-SLR
4: Sauce: Tabasco (Red)
5. Torch: Maglite (4D cell)
6. Multitool: Leatherman
7. Baked beans
8. Thermos Flask

I have removed the Beetle, firstly they are ***** and secondly we said at the start, no cars allowed on THE LIST!!! Sorry HotBox, love you man.

I think you could be right Staz, i seem to be going off on an "iconic" trip too, and I haven't got a clue why! I think brand is important actually, I got the hump about the computer mouse being removed, but actually it's not iconic, it was revolutionary, but a mouse is still a mouse, you dont go out and buy the "Logitech Mouse", or the "Microsoft Mouse", you just go and buy a mouse, it's like the saying the "car" should be on the list. Coca Cola would be a good one perhaps.

Perhaps the list needs to be defined further. Seeing as I started the ball rolling, Warren has added further parameters, feel free to add your mark chief. :icon_thumright:

We could always have a second list for all those other things! lol

Don't forget it's HEINZ beans only :icon_thumright:

2 lists! crikey, we might need a whole new community of Mods soon, just for the lists!

I found a useful source for boobs (not naughty) http://www.mademan.com/chickipedia/

List updated:

1. Toaster: Dualit 4 slice
2. Trainer:Converse Chuck Taylor Allstars
3. Camera: Nikon D3X D-SLR
4: Sauce: Tabasco (Red)
5. Torch: Maglite (4D cell)
6. Multitool: Leatherman
7. Heinz Baked beans
8. Thermos Flask
9. [Boobs]
10. Stanley Knife

Like I said earlier, I don't think Stanley knife should be on this list, it would be on the other type of list i.e. a single iconic item. Stanley products are cheap and nasty so as a BRAND they shouldn't be anywhere near this list.

The original Playstation, it made gaming cool.

I spent £600 on importing one, was a lot of money for me, was a lot of money for the time too but was worth it when that sonic boom hit after booting it up.

:rulez: I suppose! Herbie doesn't like you either :beee:

Iggu's idea :notme: but I thought it was good. Carry on...you legendary thread

Good to see the list progressing. A hair cut and a long night working for an unexpected Monday presentation have been keeping me honest.

Dyson Airblade hand cleaner is a great evolution product, so I'm all for that being on the list.

Does the VW camper stack up, or does it fall under the umbrella of van??

I think the Dyson is an evolutionary product, it's taken a necessity product and reinvented it. However I've just replaced mine with a Sebo X4. It's not beautiful, its not bagless, but the hose doesn't split. It still falls over BUT no-one seems to be able to cure that.

Hands free evolution, for your beer. I know Newcastle Brown has been mentioned (beer is as old as the dawn of time), but surprised that it's not been mentioned more on here:

Thought it was about particular items. i.e....

If an item is that good then it doesn't really matter how crap the rest of the stuff the manufacturer produces. Does it?
They're a one hit wonder... so! Doesn't make that one good item they've produced any less good.

Technics SL1200 mk2

If your into DJing, or maybe dance music in general, then you'll know what one of these is. If not chances are you perhaps pulled your missus in a cheesey nightclub where the DJ was using a pair of these. :)

Pretty much revolutionary design, released in 1972. It gets slight updates roughly every 5 years, pretty much bomb proof. A friend has had his for 18 years and they have been all around the world with him from Goa to some dodgy London Squat parties, you can even have them sent away to Technics to be serviced, if you look after them and keep the boxes they tend to retain their value for quite a few years.

That's how it started and yeah it does matter because otherwise the list doesn't make sense! It's either a brand OR an object, not both.

The way I look at the list it should be the brand and then a product in particular like this:

1. Toaster: Dualit (4 slice)
2. Trainer: Converse (Chuck Taylor Allstars)
3. Camera: Nikon (D3X D-SLR)
4: Sauce: Tabasco (Red)
5. Torch: Maglite (4D cell)
6. Multitool: Leatherman (Wave)
7. Staple food: Heinz (Baked beans)
8. Travel Product: Thermos (Flask)

If it's about an iconic item then it's be something like:

1. Stanley Knife
2. Walkman
3. Ipod
etc etc

How about Nokia? They pretty much made the mobile phone mass market. Think of a Nokia ring tone and we will all think of the same one!

Oh, and Google? You don't search for something on the internet, you google it. If someone is asking you something they should just be googling you tell them to www.f***inggoogleit.com (apologies mods, but I love suggesting that site to people). And they weren't the incumbent in the search engine world, they came along with a better way of doing it.

But then the first true mobile phone was a Motorola

Yep Google are awesome. Have you seen the Google Wave video?

EDIT: Coincidentally my Wave account went live today, been waiting 3 months! /EDIT

I remember when we first got a Dyson. We had a dog at the time and it just picked up thousands of hairs that we never knew were there!

Hmmm, greasy donjay!

Technics SL-1200/1210 turntable ges my vote as an iconic product. Even my Dad had one as his home turntable, so it spanned from DJ weapon of choice to average Joe plastic disc spinner.

AND, DON'T FORGET: TOP GEAR (the iconic car show) IS SHOWING IN HIGH DEFINITION ON BBC HD AT 9PM TONIGHT - DON'T MISS IT (I'm shouting)
