As soon as Audi started offering the free servicing deal for 2 years if you buy a car before October 31st I said to my missus, they'll be using chip pan oil in the sump and blowing the air filters with a compressor hose!

I once got a proper bollocking from Audi Reading as I din't tell them in advance that I paid monthly for a maintenance contract. I turned up to pay for my first 10,000 mile service to a bill for £380. No air filter change, just pollen filter, oil filter and oil (and the mandatory top up of washer fluid for £4 odd). When I went to pick up the car and said, I am on fixed price maintenance I got a right mouthful. They took the bill away and came back 10 minutes later saying 'if ever you come back you must tell us ahead of the service'. WHY - because they probably short cut the service!!

When I was sold the product I was told (and I quote), you can walk into ANY dealership and it will come up on the system you have fixed price maintenance. Again, it's either mis-sold, mis-information or lies. I don't expect this from a premium brand.

There is a total lack of transparency in the motor trade and it REALLY sours the ownership of what is quite a nice car. All I can say is you reap what you sow in the end, and with public forums bad news travels fast.

Actually they did do vouchers for this, I was sent one by my Audi dealer.

You need to have lived abroad for a long time before you can say that service is crap in the UK, as someone who has spent a third of my life abroad I can say with some certainty that we don't have it that bad in the UK.

I also work for a global medical company and the service we provide in the UK is better and in some cases vastly better than the service provided in other contries.

I grew up overseas, returning to live full time in the UK in 1992. My folks still live abroad. The service they get abroad may not be better, but its a quarter of the cost in many cases.

I would agree with Jeffy if we were not paying top dollar for audi service ! everything you buy and do with an Audi cost double a mainstream dealer would charge. For your premium price you get a very basic car and i have never found the service any better than Ford or Nissan, in fact Nissan is far better and they don't charge £150 an hour.
Its very clever marketing that puts a car like the S3 in the £30k+ bracket and sells it ......while a civic Type R GT will fetch £10k less.
the customer deserves something for his money and the cars are nothing special for the money so service should be exemplary....but its not.

I have the offer right in front of me. It comes with a big barcode so that you can take it to your Audi dealer. The offer is subject to certain terms and conditions like the minimum age of the car and finishes by saying that it can't be used in conjuction with any other offer. I understood that I needed to ask for this offer in order to get it.

Well I didn't have to ask for the £199 service to get it. So now you have to ask for the offer on brake fluid but not on a service?

And if what you say is the case then why when I pulled them up about the brake fluid being £49 instead of the £70 they were asking did the guy act like it was all one big mistake that he'd made?

Maybe it did start off as a special offer only for people with barcodes but it has obviously moved on from that as I didn't need one.

I tend to keep cars for a long time but even so I've still owned a few different makes, Ford, Peugeot, Renault and Audi. Both Audi's have been by far the cheapest to maintain and the service from Audi Basingstoke has been excellent.

Just to paint the other side of the picture, my mrs's A3 had it's 1st MOT last year, got the usual call saying we needed new rear discs and pads for £lots, after pricing it up at £much-less to do it myself we declined their offer. After I'd picked myself up off the floor, they reconfirmed their offer to fit them for nothing. Not only that we got a guarentee it would pass this year, which it did, however a couple of weeks before a free MOT offer came through the door, we took em up on the offer, car went in 2 hours later it was ready with a fresh MOT, they fixed a coupe of niggles like a non functioning rear wash wipe and misaligned trim. The car came back sparkling inside and out and we paid exactly nothing as promised. Still not sure what we've done to deserve such good service, compared to the other views expressed on here, however as you might expect we will be going back for the servicing of both our Audi's and will be buying our next one from there.

This isn't even remotely true, we are now one of the cheapest countries in Europe for pretty much most things (worthless pound).

The pound has only made it cheap for people earning a different currency and buying things in pounds. Its still a pound to you and me and buys less now its worthless as you need more of them to import anything.

On a side note, when I owned my 2.0TFSI quattro I got the oil service for £154 which was pretty good considering what some people were reporting being quoted. When I took the BMW in for its longlife service the oil change came to £170 and that used twice the oil of the Audi(7.5l). Audi are deffinately ripping the **** out of everything at the moment and they dont even have the quality to justify it, IMO they are living on the reputation from previous years which is now being erroded away with silly penny pinching and over pricing of servicng etc.

Things looked expensive in the UK before because of the exchange rate, now the UK looks very cheap compared to other countries again because of the exchange rate. What matters is disposable income and the UK is ranked very highly in that regard, Canadians have very little disposable income, prices look OK but salaries are poor.

lol Got mine from TPS at trade price for £4 and fitted myself. Its under the dash and takes less than 5 mins to swap over.

Yes its so cheap in the Uk that most people plan their holiday to come here ten years in advance to cover the cost lol, yet we go to Spain/Turkey etc 3 times a year why?? because it is cheap even though the Euro sucks at the moment

Wingers! You think it's expensive in the UK with bad service... try Ireland out, I dare you! Last quote I got for a major service was 370€. You have it good in the UK, and if you think any Irish dealer here would clean your car HA, you'd be lucky it doesn't come back worse than when you dropped it in!

JeffY, Canadians have very little disposable income? How do you figure? That a fairly big generalisation. Canada's average disposable income is growing at a rate double than that of the US for 4-5 years running, I don't have a direct comparison to the UK and in the early 90s sure Canadian income was low but I think if you look now it is one of the highest in the world for average disposable income. I'm Canadian, moved to Ireland 10 years ago.
