Hi guys, sorry this is bit of a long one but I'd really appreciate your help.
Got a bit of problem with my DIS display
As most of you have probably already felt, this morning is maybe the coldest it's been since the end of summer. Anyway, I went out this morning, started my car, drove off and noticed a new icon displayed in my DIS. (I have arrowed it in yellow in the below photo).
After seeing this 'snow flake' icon I thought back to walking from my house to the car and didn't recall seeing any snow at all. Thought to myself that maybe I just didn't notice it (as I was pretty tired this morning). So just to be sure I had a look out of my side window at the pavement but still couldn't see any snow.
After racking my brains for a bit I thought maybe there could've been some snow overnight and an unmelted flake or two was stuck in the grip of one of my tyres (or near to where ever my car's snow sensors are).
After parking up I got out and had a look, but no unmelted snow flakes.
Turned the car off and back on again and the snow icon in my DIS was still there. The only other thing I could think of was to turn off my ESP and do some wheel spins to try and warm things up a bit.
Had to wait a few minutes as there was a police car approaching. They passed by but as I wasn't sure whether they would return I rushed the wheel spin.
Didn't give it enough gas so the car stalled.
Turned ignition off and on (again I thought this might get rid of the icon), started car.... snow flake STILL there.
Sat there for a minute thinking about my next move and from the corner of my eye saw something fall outside. Turned quickly expecting to see snow on the ground..... it was just a small leaf with bird poo on it giving it a white'ish look.
Convinced that my DIS was faulty I pulled out my mobile phone to call Audi to book it in (turning off the car first, just in case the police did come back). Just as I started to dial I had one last brainwave. Black ice!
Got out of car again, felt the ground, and although it was cold it certainly wasn't ice. And to be fair, it wasn't really black either. More of a grey I would say.
Got back in car and guess what.... The snow flake icon was gone!!!
Happy, I went to drive off and continue my journey to work. However, the car wouldn't move. Checked a couple of things and eventually noticed I hadn't switched the car back on. Started it and snow flake icon was back again!
After staring at the DIS trying to think what else could be causing this problem I noticed that my car's date was incorrect. It was dispalying 24th December 2009. As this date is quite close to christmas I thought maybe the car was just assuming it was snowing and therefore displaying this snow icon.
Corrected the date but the icon didn't disappear.
Reckon all bases have been covered now so there just has to be a fault somewhere.
So before I get on to Audi I was just wondering if anybody else has experienced this problem with their DIS, and if so, could they advise on a fix.
I've searched the forum but no one else seems to have written anything about a similar problem.
Thanks guys.
PS: I know there is another warning being displayed. It's because i've got a brake light out. I'll change that later, once I get this snow flake problem sorted.
