Hi guys
I've just had my S3 reapped at TSR in Bridgwater and all went well until the rolling road test, 1st went well came back at 224BHP and 2nd (after remap)couldnt do it cause couldnt turn ESP off and it was to powerful and ESP kick in.
Anyone know why it wouldnt turn off??
Thanks for your time

You were at a tuner who remapped your car and they were unable to tell you why..is this correct ?

Why would it matter if the ESP is on or off, surely all four wheels should just drive on the rr as it's dry and each wheel is in the same conditions?

They said cause the car had alot more power they had to turn it off or it will stop them from spining and couldnt get a real reading

silly question but does it have an ESP switch ?

The ESP should come on when you start the car, you should notice that the light is on for a few seconds while it kicks in. Then, if you want to turn it off you push the switch on the dash and it puts the light back on again (meaning the ESP is off).

lol that is some re map to spin up in 5th gear on a dyno

ESP is very tetchy on the S3, its a real nanny sometimes... Remaps (especially Revo) on a K04 turbo'd car are quite spiky (you love it Jase though huh!! LOL) so not surprised ESP kicks in... I assume this was done on a 4WD dyno? did they disable the haldex at all?

As mentioned, ESP 'should' turn off by pressing the switch and then an indicator (orange hazard sign) on the rev counter side of the dash.

If its not switching off (indicator not coming on) then get them to check for fault codes as something else could be up. I assume that you have been able to switch ESP off before and have seen the indicator come on at all?

<tuffty/>

whom did you buy it from ? has the ESP bulb in the dash blew and/or can it ? It could mean some problem with the ESP (yaw sensor) !?

When they remapped it, did they check for fault codes first? Any decent tuner would and (I would hope) at least let you know before clearing them...

I'd be inclined to get the fault codes checked first, if they are clear it could be something as innocuous as a bulb gone and you really are turning ESP off...

Hi mate, yeah it was done on a 4WD dyno and not sure about disabling the haldex, i was up stairs looking down on them though a window lol. but at some point only the front wheels were running.
I have try the ESP befor and there was no light then, i thought it was just the light not working cause it still worked, and to be honest mate i forgot to get it looked at then

as tuffty said is it actually a 4wd rolling road??? some tuner you have used there, i cant see how they could'nt tell you of any faults did they scan you ecu's for codes??? as id have hoped they would have accsess to these functions if they are capable of mapping the ecu, this is why id only ever let a known and trusted tuner near my car

Yeah they did check it and nothing came up they said and after remap they checked again and still nothing

im guessing they checked the esp faults aswell as engine etc,,, have you tried just turning on the ignition to see if the esp light comes on as normal for the few seconds before the esp is ready for action?? if it dosent come on could just be the bulb as said before if it does come on looks like you have a fault and id be inclined to take it else where with more vag experiance

I don't get a light when i turn it on mate and they said they checked it all

could be as simple as a bulb, try it is another option try doing some drifting if it kicks in its on then press the button and try again if it dont kick in either try harder or its working and is more then likely a bulb, just be sensible if you take up my rediculos idea lol

Just took a pic of my dash...

...the orange/yellowy indicator opposite the 60 on the rev counter should come on when you turn ESP off and also flash on when ESP kicks in. Turning the ignition on will illuminate this (and the car shaped one below) for a few seconds and then go out.

If this does not light up at all then the bulb has gone... if it does, you have a different problem... Does the ESP illuminate red behind the switch? could be the switch itself.

I have tryed something like that and i def can't turn it off

No light on the switch and no light on the dash, if the switch is broke the light would still come on the dash, right?

LOL, nice one Kev... or alternatively.... find somewhere with a loose or non grippy surface such as grass or gravel (nowhere where you can get into trouble), use only enough power to get the wheels spinning... if you can increase revs while wheels are spinning then ESP is off, if the revs don't rise then ESP is working... try hitting the switch and repeat... you get the idea...

Little less likely to end up in a hedge that way LOL (mythbusters eat your hearts out!!!)

<tuffty/>

tuner must of been talking danglies when he read your ECU

Switch illuminates with the lights mate...

If the indicator on the dash doesn't come on when you turn on the ignition, ESP works and there are no fault codes then I may just be the bulb in the dash...

If you can, try the loose surface test and press the switch once inbtween tests (do not switch off the engine or ignition as this will reset ESP to default of on)

That should at least tell you if you can actually turn it off, if you can turn it off then its gotta be the bulb...

<tuffty/>

Dont think its just the bulb, if its not the bulb, what could it be??

If its not throwing a fault then I have no real idea... are there any other lights that don't illuminate compared to my pic?

Switch or bulb are the only ones I can think of based on what you have said, anything should throw a fault code of some description...

Does the switch make a click when you press it?

<tuffty/>

Yeah all lights up apart from ESP and yeah it does click when pressed. Would it come up with a fault it someone (last owner) deleted it before?

Even if the fault code was deleted before, if the fault remains, it will throw the code again... at this point I still suspect a bulb in the first instance, switch in the second instance...

Dash pods are awkward but not too difficult to remove from what I have heard. Assuming its a bulb rather than an LED.

Grass would be a useful test surface for the ESP too if its easier to find somewhere to try it out... common land or something...

I really don't think it them cause they seemed to know what they were doing, and why would they not say if they did find something wrong

I never said it was TSR...I said it was well dodgy as in peculier that on your comments they checked everything and also on the first run was the ESP off then ?

i'll try getting it to work on gress and let you all know asap.
thanks for your tme

I know i can't get my round it, on 1st run ESP was on. they said they didn't need it off,

i have used tsr in the passed and they are a reputable tuner and they definately know what they are doing.
I will also be booking my s3 in for a stage1 revo with them soon, from chatting with them they informed me that they would scan the ecu for faults and not even map a car unless it was clear.
I cant give any helpfull input on the esp situation tho, sorry.

Hi mate, i would def use them they are really good and the guy who did it was a really nice guy and hes got a sweet R32.
They did scan and nothing came up, i'm on the case now with my mate who works for Yeovil Audi, nobody know what has happened, but it was not turning off befor remap and still not turning off now but it will soon and i'll go back to TSR for the RR.
Your'll love the Revo mate, great fun
