Right people, i've got a week off work coming up soon so want to get the car done. Was wanting to get it done professionally but just dont have the funds. However i have most bits and pieces and just wanted some last bit of advice before i get on it.
I have: megs wheelbrightner and ez detail brush
hyperwash etc
drying towel.
the hard paint g220 kit from polished bliss.
blackfire sealant
blackfire tyre gel and poorboys wheel sealant
buffing towels

Things i need are: a good suitable clay and looking to get the blackfire wax to go along with the sealant. Do i need an applicator pad too im thinking along with another buffing towel.

Can anyone think of anything i've missed or any tips for the marathon.

good luck Rav
can show you my collection tomoz if your free

Pick up some meg's applicators mate. Just take your time the more time you put into the prep the better the finished results mate. Do you have a halogen for helping to spot the swirls? Do you no anybody with a pdg too it may be good to check you paint depth before you commence with your g220. Good luck and enjoy

Good luck mate, let us know how you get on and dont forget the before and after pics.

Havent got the pdg probe or the halgoens but will hopefully be doing the work in my cousins garage which seems to be well lit. i'll just use what i can suppose.
i've done "minor" details in there before but nothing off this sort. hopefully a quiet few evenings in the garage, cup of cofee and see how it all geos.

nilz: yea going to have to take some pics i rekon. dont know what ill enjoy most the time off work or the detail lol.

might take ou up on that mate. pm me your no and ill let you know.hows your car then, still sparkling from jimmys work?

Stealth mode is engaged as its winter and don't need attention as it gets dark Rav so its getting dirrrty...don't tell Jim though :)

lol i wont tell. actually wanted to get mine done from jim, have seen lots of his work and he seems to be a top guy but just dont have that sort of money free around.

Rav, you could have got a full proper detail like Jase's for the cost of that lot ;)

for the clay id just buy megs..... does the job nicely. I'd seriously consider some autosmart tardis for tar removal, some aerospace 303 (small spray for £3.50) for the interior and engine dressing. Bilton Hamber Sufex water based degreaser for the arches and engine bay..... megs detail brush is useful along with the slidelock brush..... for the wheels id also purchase a Vikan brush as the EZ is only very light and doesnt always remove my brake dust on my 'sealed' wheels, i only bought mine 3 weeks ago and wish i hadnt, gonna be buying a vikan instead (black bristle which is harder i beleieve) - you will need some stiffer bristles if your wheels havent been touched in ages.... autosol and wire wool for the exhaust/mirrors (if you have proper ones ;) ) , i use poorboys trim restorer for the black plastic....oh and if your using a g220 you'll want to pre wash it in future with snow foam :) (autobrite had a group buy on detailingworld ;) )- thats all i can think of at the moment mate - go0d luck

cheers for the advice tim. I've bought the stuff bit by bit over the past year anyways mate as i have done mini details on the car before. this time though i have a whole week to spend on it.
so fo you think the megs clay is fine to use then? i already have some anyway. aerospace is a good shout actually. with the wheels they are pretty clean as i have the wheel kit with the jeffs prime and have been sealed with the wheel sealant.
my cousin has the megs next metal polish that i'll be using on the exhaust and my "proper mirrors":moa:.
already have the foam lance, not the proper one but the one that came with the pressure washer (karcher) so thatll do that for now.

cheers for th advice mate

no worries mate...best thing i have in my kit is autobrites very cherry wheel cleaner, spray on, leave and jet off, fetches 95% of dirt/brake dust off, non acidic (same as bilberry) ....top stuff ;)

So how did you get on then dude???

Lol ravv! I'll be down in two weeks to see how it goes! ;):superman::thrashi:

Well if you get it done by Wednesday, you can bring it out to Ricoh if we head up there....

yea might do actually nilz, it'll be the first time i'm down during the week for ages. let me know if you're going down?

Yea will give you a shout, drop me a text if you are ready and i'll see if I can pop up for a while and if any of the others off here do too ;)

Who actually organises this vagcom meeting? I heard it was some dude called tony?

will do Jimmeh. Have cleaned my alloys, tyres twice today, washed, clayed and re-washed. absolutly knackered already lol. Just putting together the g220 now and having another read of the polished bliss guidelines. Any last minute tips you could offer?

Buy lots of Jaffa Cakes and take your time.

I should be around tomorrow if you need to catch me on the phone etc.

Gops, yes mate, it is a guy called Tony, do you know him, he is a local Cov boy, used to have a green Polo, now has a blue Mk3 Golf GTI, there are a few lads that organise it tho, including Jay (with the silver TT with Porsche rims)

Are you local as well????

Rav we need pics ;)

Ez nilz! Yeahh! He's my brother in law's good friend! If you lot do go and see him at the ricoh make sure you first go to boots (my place of work when i need to money to fund my habit of going out at uni) and ring the buzzer for fun! haha And then tell him "khush's brother in law says hello!" lol. I think i've seen that TT around actually... Yeah dude i am a local!!!

Im rav's cousin! lol

LOL...you crazy students...!!! ;)

Pop along with Rav on Wednesday then mate if we are going up, will be good to put names to faces :)

right, unproductive day, meant to borrow my cousins garage but couldnt and it was raining so no polishing today! booo! did do my alloys though. polished with jeffs strong prime and then sealed with poorboys wheel sealant. pics will follow when its all done. hoepfully weathers better tomorrow.
