Hi, Has anyone had the illumination pack fitted as factory spec on their car and has VDS cable to scan 09 central electrics module. I'm looking at fitting footwell lights to my A4 and as yet Ross Tech have not devised the coding. I want to try the coding from 'yours' in mine as a comparison.

Thanks

Neil

I have the Light Pack and this is my coding :

Thanks very much Scotty.

Could I ask one more favour please, I have been in touch with Ross-Tech and they have said that if I send both my coding and your coding they will look at it for me. They do however need a PR code which they have sent me a link to:-

http://www.ross-tech.net/vag-com/advertising/PRCodeTechTip.pdf

Can you supply me with details of this code please. (I'm planning to scan mine out of my service book).

Another point whilst I'm on, I'm trying to get my needles and scales permanently on in my instrument cluster. VDS for Needle and Scale illumination options in your Instrument Cluster is:
>>
>> [Select]
>> [17-Instruments]
>> [Coding]
>> [Long Coding Helper]
>>
>> In Byte 0, you should find a drop-box that gives you four different
>> options.

I have done this and have selected needles and scales on but only the needles are illuminated.

If you turn your light switch in the off position what does your instrument cluster look like (mine is just the red needles lit), can you adjust using the above with vds coding? When I turn my light switch onto auto lights, the instrument cluster lights up. I want mine to be on all the time as I find it quite dark, I managed to access this setting in my A3!

Cheers Scotty

Regards

Neil

Neil,

Last things first :

My needles and scales are set the same as yours :

A4_instruments.jpg

i.e. all turned on in VCDS. With the light switch turned to 0 i.e. off only the needles are lit so this is the same as you BUT.....

it's because it's dark outside at 22:15 in October !!!

The sensor in the dash therefore dims the scales as an indicator to you that you need to turn your lights on. If you get a torch and shine it at the sensor (small round circle near the MPH logo then I bet they light up. :)

If the scales aren't lit if effectively means you should have your lights on....and then they'll come on.

I have my lights on auto anyway so I never have this problem.

Here's my PR codes. Not sure which is which but help yourself :

A4_options.jpg

p.s. I'm not sure how these codes work as some of the options I ordered are shown above with the same code as in the brochure. However QQ1 (lighting pack) isn't shown.

Thanks again Scotty, I apreciate your help

Yes I know this, but I want my instrument lights to be on all the time. When set to auto the xenons come on too early. Call me retarded but I just love keeping the LED DRL's on as long as possible and have enabled the rear tail lights to be on at the same time (scandanavian settings for DRL's). I think Ross tech have programmed this part of VDS wrong and when I e-mailed them with my problem they said they got the coding from an A5. perhaps thats wrong - I'll let them know.

If the scales aren't lit it effectively means you should have your lights on....and then they'll come on

This can be overriden in VDS using the coding above but I think it is wrong.

For anyone else who is reading this and wants infomation on the PR codes check out this web site:-

http://igorweb.org/equidec/

I'm in the process of retro fitting both the door warning lights, footwell lights and glove box light. I have worked out the wiring diagrams of the car, VDS sorts out the door lights but not the footwell lights. Thanks to Scottys help I'm goin to e-mail ross tech with the info.

I will post a 'how to' whilst I'm doing this and post it when I've finished

Thanks

Woohoo - after all these years of using VagCom and VCDS it's good to help put something into it ;)

With regards the needles/scales.... I've never considered this as a way of stopping the auto dimming of the scales. I've only ever considered it as a choice of what are activated and hence subject to the dimming.

I too think the Xenon's come on too early and Late should probably be Early or Mid but TBH I'm not that bothered. I leave it in auto and it makes life just that tiny bit easier.

p.s. I also have the rear LED's activated as DRLs and I had no problems with the activation

p.p.s. I read this after getting 908.1 this morning. I'm not sure what's changed as the website doesn't show it yet nor the changes.

908.1 is mostly a bug fix release that takes care of some minor issues like UDS related things. The data version that comes with it also contains some fixes for service reset information and similar, but be assured there is more to come. ;)

Pretty much done for today (it's 4:10 am) and will try to get some sleep after going through B8 BCM coding data pretty much all night. You'll probably notice some more bits being documented in the next data version/update...

Anyway, we're always looking for feedback - so whatever you find and send to us, we usually look at it and will add it to VCDS as long as it's reasonable and tested. Thanks!

I will email Uwe again as the issue with module 46 Sebastian I mentioned to you in January is still there, it always loses the tick box designation when you go into 46 for the 2nd time & you have to remove vcds & install again to see it properly in long coding, then it happens again.

It won't change much if you email Uwe directly about this (he has been involved in this already), so far none of us was able to consistently reproduce the problem in a way that would allow us to figure out whats up there. However there are some ideas we were kicking around, so I would ask you for a little more patience regarding that matter...

Thanks Sebastian, have a good nights sleep mate. Give my thanks to Uwe aswell. Very quick support service.

:beerchug:

Consistently, it does it every time on my car & others reported this to me, seems to be on the very early module with no letter on end, also someone mentioned to me the other day that 09 module was doing the same thing, strange coincidence as both use long coding & show same symptons.

Also I will add, its already getting near a year long wait Sebastian & my last contact with yourself was you think you have a handle on it, since then nothing, dont you think thats fairly patient of myself overall.

I dont expect anything will change, but I'll email Uwe anyway for an update as he said he would get on it.

When I was swapping out my interior lights to all led, i noticed that the under seat foot lights were led already. They were housed in a normal light fitting (like the boot lights) and were recessed into the horizontal seat spine.I just wonder if that recess is there, let alone the wiring.Im not that agile to look under the seat, but it seemed that the led lights were not removeable.Im probably wrong as the below ekta shot shows a bulb!!.Hope the shot helps anyway

The 'holes' are in the seat bases but there is no wiring. I have made my own looms and will wire them up to the supply control module under the dash board. VDS to code the central electric module and bobs your uncle!

I've spent a bit of time exploring the wiring for the illumination pack and am happy with it now. I have made the looms and bought the necessary parts.

The only thing I probably won't do are the sun visor vanity mirror lights.

The lack of a glove box light started this off! :)

Edit

Etka lists the footwell lights (part no - 4EO 947 415 £8.80 EACH) which are Led. The footwell lights previously fitted were part no. 4BO 947 415 A (£6.95 EACH) which have a 5W bulb

Still downloading the damn elsa updates to my desktop in UK, so as soon as done will update you unless you have the wiring schematics now, I'm on update 28 of 50, should be done by end of weekend, lol.

Thanks Nigel.

I'm using an older version of elsawin, it has the 2009 model listed. I hoping they haven't changed too much in this area.

Huh, I checked the info you gave me & wasnt listed, will check again incase it was a thick moment, lol

yep xenons come on too early think I will look at this would like to run with leds till it gets really dark (not overcast or dusk)
I have the light pack fitted from factory build

Scotty,
How do you activate the rear LED's to be on with the DRLs?
Is this something the dealer has to do?
Thanks...Trebor.

As you've seen in the above posts, I have VCDS which allows access to many of the cars normally hidden configurable components.

If you don't have this (which given your question I'd assume is the case) then you can either purchase the s/w and cable, ask someone who's already got it or ask the dealer to.

The dealer will of course charge you. Who ever does it, there is the risk that each time it goes into Audi that it gets set back to the factory standards. I guess it depends on your relationship with them and if you're able to ask them to leave it as you've set it.

Or he can buy vcds from me if he's interested

Sebastian,

Yes that coding you sent me works fine to activate both the front and rear footwell lights. Is there anywhere in adaptation settings which allow for the brightness to be altered, i.e DIS function.

Footwell lights sorted, Glove box light sorted, just starting the door lights

Thanks for everyones contribution

Neil

I used these for the overhead 'spots':

although the opening for the spot light is offset to the bulb

I used these for the boot, glovebox and puddle lights:

They all show no errors in my 09 B8, but who knows in others. The flank bulbs however should be okay as they have resistors in.Ive got a couple of spare festoon and wedge bulbs, pm me if you want to try em out first

Real easy,30 min tops for the lot.Only pain is the glovebox, must take the whole fitting out, but tie a laggy band around the wire before u disconnect it as the wire is really short and can fall behind the glovebox

Just to update this thread, I've found solutions as below courtesy of the Audizine forum and members DavidB8 and Rlarsen:-

Footwell lighting:-

MMI high (2G):

Code:
Enable the Interior lighting (extended) MMI item:[07 - Control Head][Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 1add 2 to the existing value
MMI Plus (3G):

Code:
[5F - Information Electr.]Not know yet how to enable the Interior lighting menu item with VCDS....BUT can be enabled through the "hidden menu":- select 'Interior Light' in 'car/cardevicelist'- put 'Interior light' on 1 in 'car/carmenuoperations'

MMI basic (non-MMI - 2G) (symphony/concert radio):

Code:
[56 - Radio][Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 8Bit 7 - Interior Light Settings active - (1 = active)
Then enable the 'connection' between Cent. Elect and the Interior light MMI menu item (the same on all systems):

Code:
[09 – Cent. Elect.][Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 16Bit 6 - Set this bit manually to “1” - (1 = active)
If the menu item is still grayed out - then a restart of MMI is required now...

More info see:- http://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...ng-(Full-time-adjustable-foot-lighting)/page3

Instrument Backlights always on:-

Haven't really found a solution to this more a work around. Use the following coding

Always on 100% LED lighting

- SELECT [Module 09]

- Go to "Secure access" [Enter code: "20113", accept]

- Go to "Adaptation" [Select "Channel" 3 ", inserting the No. or by pressing" Up "]

- Choose the percentage of light that we want minimum 5 and maximum 100.

- Click "Test"

- After clicking Test confirm with "Save"

This setting will turn up the brightness of the LED's to full power when used as sidelights so you can swith DRL to side lights and have front and rear LED's and instrument lighting. (The DRL setting alone will not always light the instrument cluster). The LED's are also on full power when headlights are on which looks quite good. Only drawback is that the LED's do not dim when indicating.

John, Did you already have a lightning pack or did you install it afterwards? If you installed it afterwards was it hard to do and do you have some information on it?
I'm seeing if i can add it afterwards ;-)

Thanks

Hi Rikp, I think John already had the illumination pack and has fitted aftermarket LED bulbs.

I have completed the retro fit of the illumination pack bar the sunvisor lights. See:

and

I've done front and rear footwells too but haven't got round to doing a write up!

Hi Gazb8, I've not been on her for a while. I'm no longer an Audi owner. I notice your in Telford, if you want to meet up we can discuss, i'll need to drag my files out to see if I can remember and I'll try and point you in the right direction. I'm not able to post anything though cause its all in the grey matter.

Pm me your number and I'll give you a ring

sorted the front and rear footwell lights out the way it should work not just joining the rear to front i will do the write up soon
