......... and gone back!!

Unbelievable.....

I ordered it with full dynamic steering, damping, sports diff, etc,,,, however when it arrived I only had the option of auto, comfort, or dynamic??

Apparently you only get access to the full 'handling' package adjustments if you order the 'satnav' and 'multimedia' option... Which I didn't, because I didn't want it.

WTF have either of those got to do with the handling setup of the car......!!
****** all I'd say.

If this package was needed to make the driving package work, then why didn't;

a) The salesman tell me that? (I already know the answer to this one. Because they haven't got a clue!)

b) Audi customer services tell me that when I rang up for technical information on how these systems work? (this I don't know why not)

c) The audi online configurator tell me that? (It tells you all sorts of other 'minor' conflicts, but not a glaring **** up like in order to have 'full control' of your 'full control' handling package, you need the 'mutimedia' OPTION ***!!!!!!)

And to top it all off........... On a fourty grand car REAR parking sensors are an option,,, obviously a ****** well hidden one!

The car has gone back to the contract hire company. I can see this ending up as a pile of ***** unless Audi UK can accept the blindingly obvious!

We shall see.................... Any Ideas?... I'm ****** off.

I may have misunderstood but here' my take on what you've said :

full handling package - is it simply the individual setting your missing. If so is it a really biggy? It's nice having it (mine's set the same as dynamic but with auto steering) but it's not really an amazing addition..... you explanation does explain why the car I test drove didn't have this. My dealer couldn't explain why.

parking sensors - not hidden at all..... in the brochure. Please don't tell me you did it via the configurator. :sadlike: In fact you must have missed three options as three types of Parking systems are listed. The dealer can retro fit the rear sensor system.

So on what basis has the car gone back? Haven't they delivered what you ordered?

not sure on the handling pack.

but fully with Scotty on Parking sensors.....its in black and white.

tuff one to swallow whatever

Thanks guys.

Yep, mostly configurator job..!! Parking sensor thing, as you say isn't a biggy. I must be going even 'more' senile!

The basis it has gone back, is because the full control of all the handling options isn't available as it was demonstrated to me. The added complication is that it was ordered via a broker and not the dealer. (£100 PM more expensive) Another link in the chain.

Also, maybe it's just because I'm ****** off, but I think the build quality has gone down........?

I really feel for you. Getting your new pride and joy after all the build up and excitement to find it's not all you was hoping is a horrid anti-climax. :(

Rear sensors can be done for around £150 (I think) but the factory fit is £345 so may be not exactly the same thing. (Sensors are listed in the configurator under "Exterior")

Re : handling pack - is it "just" the individual settings you're missing or is it more?

Also who demonstrated it to you? The dealer? If you used them to get your answers and then went to a broker then I think their response will be :beee:

Did the broker add any value or did you just place an order with them? It sounds like you can't blame the broker and you will have no comeback on the dealer.

So far I just can't see why anyone would allow you to walk away from the exact car you ordered. :uhm:

p.s. Build quality - yep - it's what the reviews all said and what many owners have said. Apart from the silver plastic trim which feels cheap, I think it's fine. Only time will tell how it lasts.

Have the brokers accepted the car back JPO?

Glad I specced SatNav now, must admit I used the brochure to configure.

Scotty,

Yes it is 'just' the individual settings..!! But as you know drive select, with dynamic steering and damping control, Plus Sports diff, should give you full control of these functions as the name suggests.....!

You understand the point about the broker/dealer bit correctly, and I can see that being a problem. My argument can only be with the broker, but I am entitled to rely on the advice of an authorised Audi dealer, Audi customer services, and the accuracy of the Audi 'configurator'.......!

As I said, if, with the options I selected, you can't have full control of a fully controlable system, then that should at some point in the ordering process have been 'flagged up' in my view.

Matt,

At the moment its gone back. I think the only way this is going to get resoved is with the intervention of Audi UK, who will hopefully accept my argument............ We shall see. But any advice gratefully accepted.

Just had a flick through the brochure, there is no mention of having to have the Tech pack, but then it doesn't really describe the individual settings either.

The website states this:

You're still in control
With Audi drive select you can choose between relaxation and performance. In 'comfort', safety and stability have priority. In 'auto', the program calculates the best balance between all of the car's functions. In 'dynamic' the emphasis shifts to the technical means of increasing agility. Away from public roads, this setting allows you to 'create' controlled oversteer.

Which I think you stated you did have. Sounds like the dealer is going to be the basis for rejection. I wish you luck.

Which broker did you use btw. pm if you prefer.

JPO,
Thats a real bummer.Having duff advice (or none) from a dealer AND a duff configurator is disgusting in this day and age.My experiance (apologies for harping on about it) was the ordering of 19"rims having test drove a sline with18.There were no slines with 19's anywhere in the uk at the time, so i went ahead and ordered thinking no big deal.By my own volition i clocked that the 19's meant that the suspension was dropped only 20mm and not 30mm with the 18's.This was in the small print at the time in the brochure, and the dealer unaware.Made a HUGE differance...on rails v shopping trolley.Ive had to live with it as i only found out after id taken delivery (nearly refused as a **** job was done prepping the paint) and having whinged got the reply 'its what you ordered'Tried fitting a s4 arb...was already fitted!!So ive had to live with it.It might help if you have a printed copy of your configurator, this might at least prove what you ordered and that there wern no conflicts. It shouldnt let you 'build' the car if there is a conflict.Do you have a copy of the order form?Cos that will show exactly what was sent to the factory to be built. If the spec is there and it doesnt work together then you should have a case.Only problem i see is that its through a broker, but im pretty sure you should have full redress with audi uk.And no, its not cos youre ****** about the build quality (not many people agree with me here) I think its a drop from the B7.A bigdrop.First thing i did was to spray my silver dash black.I can now get in the car without hating it.I wont bore you any further about the crap gear selectors or handling!!Or the fact im hitting 60% of audis mpg claims!Pm me if youre interested in a black dash.

Ive just used the configurator and it will let you build it with the steering damping and sports diff.WTF.And why the F do you have to have a ski bag hole to have sports seats?(sorry was dreaming!)

Spoken to Audi customer services,,, see what they have to say.

John,
The build quality IS a big drop, I'm glad it's not just me! Yes that ali trim is *****, and I ordered the carbon inlays to get rid of all that.....!! I think I will be interested in that Black dash...........

The configurator chaps is synonumously been known to be crap, its usually very outdated or wrong on many accounts on many chassis's, so this could be used for your argument, get evidence its wrong via screen dumps then you can use this for the argument, check other cars aswell as I saw the 8P has some serious discrepancies aswell recently, its useless man.

And your decision to buy was based on ?
:uhm:

Reject accepted. Order cancelled........!!!

So I'm back to square one. Order new car, with required options. Best outcome I could of hoped for.......

I know the feeling as I rejected my first one, 18 weeks total from ordering the first one to accepting the second one but well worth the wait.

Yours was a manual was it not?

Not sure there are many about with the right spec JPO, most are Stronic, especially at the price a broker will have given you. Factor in the VAT increase as well.

I think you may be in for a wait.

Matt,

Mine was S tronic... But yes, the wait is going to kill me. Which is why I'm looking at what's available now...!

As in what spec would I be looking for second hand??

This is my Full spec as originally ordered.

Automatic
Sprint blue
Debaged
Tyre pressure monitor
Carbon Inlays

Sports Diff
Hill hold assist
Bluetooth interface.

Added to it for the new order will be;

Technology pack basic
rear parking

everything else standard

Keep us updated, I'll let you know if i hear of anything.

You sure you don't want the light pack (glovebox light, foot wells, puddle lights etc)?

Do you need hill hold assist on an automatic (...although it does fill in a blank I suppose)

Then again if you're now going for second hand I guess you won't get 100% match anyway .... in fact I'd be surprised if you get as close as the car you've just rejected

Good spec, and you've added Wheels, Tech Pack and Seats!!! Last of the big spenders :)

Please don't forget that things can go wrong at the last hurdle.
It was the new car sales manager who cocked my order up by not selecting things correctly on the computer at point of order.
I would insist on checking the details on screen as they place the order, I did this with my second order.

The order form you sign is not the document used to generate the factory order.

Don't want to be doom merchant but by doing this you are eliminating the risk from the last action in the chain prior to build.
I don't think they get it wrong at the factory the week point is normally at the dealership.

Good luck

Yes,,,, well when I saw how ***** the standard seats looked in the flesh I'm glad I got a second chance... Same for the wheels.

Trev,

I know what you're saying,,, hopefully between myself, the dealer, and the broker It will come out OK....!!

But it definately won't be over until the fat lady not only sings,,,,, but ruptures my eardrums in the process........:sm4:

Wot no b+o and light pack?Whats with the black-black dashboard??That sounds interesting as it suggests a colour choice.Nice spec bar the colour imo!!!

Light pack is standard.

Seats are the same as in the S3 as standard, i quite like them. :)

Light pack is standard on the S4

Good point. One of the very few spec upgrades you get with the B8 S4. The B6 got a lot more.

I've tweeked it a bit. Defo going for a new one, unless something amazing happens before monday.

I think this should be a link to my final spec.....

I hope that you're specing this against the brochure and not via the configurator this time. The Audi Configurator has never been up to date (well at least not in the last 9 years!!) and is only an idea so get a ball park figure.

It appears you're dropped TPMS and Hill Hold Assist. Is this deliberate?

I'm surprised you're debadging. On the S4 it's small and neat as it is.

Also I don't see AMI in the configurator? I think that more and more people will want this going forward so perhaps something to be considered as a fairly cheap option that may make selling it easier.

Do yourself a favour if you haven't already and go through every line of the brochure : http://www.audi.co.uk/etc/medialib/cms4imp/audi2/uk/Products/a4/pdf.Par.0052.File.pdf

Oh yeah ! When I ordered mine originally I didn't have Nav but had AMI. When I added the Tech Pack I forgot to remove AMI until it came to paying. The dealer would have taken for both!!

Scotty, Matt

You're absolutley right, it's a nightmare with the tech pack, MMI, etc etc. But I think I've got it right this time.

Yep I've dropped the TPMS, as all it seemed to do was notify you of a low pressure, and not give you a 'monitored' reading!

Hill hold, on reflection, thought it might be more of a pain than a benefit.

PS I'm not bothered about resale value, as I'm contract hiring.
