It isnt the title is a bit misleading. The original car was a TDI before he stripped it. The engine in it now is a petrol Audi motorsport unit he used in previously in his RS4 according to the article(you can even see the plug hole in the head in this pic http://www.eurotuner.com/featuredvehicles/eurp_0704_2005_audi_a3_tdi_quattro/photo_05.html).

They piture of the engine is with it just fitted but not plumbed in as the turbo has no pipes on it neither does the dump valve and theres a pipe fitting hanging off in the background.
