Retrofitting RS4 (B7) Steering Wheel

APR do use the stalk, not sure of the specifics though. Go on NHN, sort something out for the B6 boys with RS 4 MFSW :icon_thumright:
 
You could however use the Sport button as a start button I guess, you would need to check wiring through slip ring but not impossible, all comes down to how the buttons work as to what we can do with them & also slip ring/steering module pin allocations.

the only thing stopping me getting one (apart from the fact that I can't afford it lol!!!) is the fact that I have a blue cab, with a blue roof, with blue leather, with blue doorcards, with blue dash, with blue inlays with a blue steering wheel, so as you can guess its kinda blue!!! So I don't think a black steering wheel would look right! Thats what I keep telling myself over and over and over lol !!!! :keule:

welllllll.... you could: but you'd have to get the R8 wheel and then get a custom upholsterer to take the black leather off and trim the wheel in blue leather... which would be a shame, since it's got a really nice firm but supple feel to it, but then it'd be really unique....
 
losty's idea would be ok if you found one that was marked and cheap, would deffo be unique.

hmmm..... would be pretty funky though... need to be 100% confident in whoever is working the leather for you....

see, your ****** well at it again!!! I've used a local firm two recolour the worn leather on steering wheels on my last couple of cars (MGZS180 and P38 Range Rover) and I'm now remembering a conversation with the guy that went along the lines of......'its alot easier to recolour new leather as it hasn't had all the natural oils etc from your hands contaminating it you don;t have to spend hours de-greasing the leather before starting to apply the dye'.......so a BLUE R8 wheel could well be a go-er!!!! Hang on though....isnt the airbag face plastic?

yep - the airbag cover is plastic... but would you want the WHOLE thing in blue?

somebody get on photoshop and do some options for the man.... I think my work here is complete... all seeds of corrupting thought have been firmly planted :eyebrows::eyebrows:

All the buttons connect via a LIN bus connection to the SCSM, so you would need to add an additional LIN bus decoder to pull off the signal from the Sport button.
 
So you're saying there isnt a seperate wire solely for the sport button, going from the wheel through the slip ring to a pin on the swcm, because my idea was to tap into that pin, break the track going of to the circuits on the board, then mod some wiring into that/those pins for use for anything really.

That's EXACTLY what I'm saying. One wire per switch would make the slip ring complicated and even more expensive.
 
Urrrm thats got me thinking now tbh Dave, watch this space as I am gonna check mine out as they must all use the same basic design.
 
Now I got my RS6 wheel on there, gonna go check my s3 fbmfsw wiring to see whats possible & slip ring, I reckon there's a spare circuit through slipring to tap into & just solder from the module onwards to where ever, I dont need but be interested to know if can be done for others to venture into.
 
Does anyone know if you can code a steering wheel with paddle shift to a tiptronic car that did not have paddle shift to start with?
 
Yeah has been done with correct steering module & slip ring mate.

Haha, I wish! No, but all being well I 'might' be in the market for B7 come 2010, and was thinking tiptronic with paddle shift. Some that I've seen for sale have better specs and no paddles so it's an option to retrofit. Saying that I have no idea if they are really any good or whether you still a little disengaged in an auto. Then there's the question of if the tip gearbox will take the torque increase of a remap but that's a different question, lol.

I've still got my 3 spoke Sports wheel in the garage. I was going to keep it to put back on the car when I sell it but may be tempted to sell.......
 
Unless you're gonna stick some seriously stupid amounts of torque on the box, it should handle a fair map & the paddle wheel can be fitted, as I said have read some who have done, just have to code it & make sure slip ring & steering module are correct.
 
It's the reviews on the B8 3.0TDI that make me think the box won't handle a remap as the B8 is only offered in a manual, apparently because of the amount of torque (500NM). A 3.0TDI B7 remap takes the torque from 450NM to c550NM, which may be too much. Not sure why this is though as Audi produce tip boxes that will take more torque than that anyway - just don't want to f**k it up if I get one in the new year you know.

My mates got a tip B7 3.0 TDI remapped & goes like a dream mate, no problems at all & been on there for a while now.

Guys, sorry to drag up on old thread however i just wanted to warn you.
I have just been warned from users on another forum that the B7 steering wheel will not work in an B6.. It seems to work at first..

However... a user from another forum has reported a none deploying air bag in an accident where all other air bags deployed.

Don't do it. Dual stage airbag + single stage controller = death
