Hey all, So casually cruising through slightly large roundabout today an this little **** pulls right out in front of me. So thought to myself... no im not having that lol! so just hit that second gear an magnetise to the **** of his bumper right round the roundabout going back down the hill, too much traffic about so thot id just bail at the next roundabout. YEY! he goes right too with an open bit of road. Two of uz sink it and the ****** starts pulling away from with a cloud of black smoke behind it!!!! ran out of road to eventually catch him but i couldnt believe it! I almost hated my car after that :motz: what could it have been?

It was a 2008 reg polo n by the looks of things it was diesel, do they really have that sort of power to beat an S3? By the looks of it all the guy might have had was a remap at most.

Thats a few cars iv exspected to beat and they'v kept up no problem or beat me completely. The other night a 1.9 diesel vectra was keeping up with me! I was only pulling away at about 85/90mph.

Starting to think the car might not be up to the power it should have... Is a rolling road the best way to check it? If so how much is a rolling road gonna cost me?

225 BHP btw lol 2002

Your car isn't running right, a vectra diesel should be no where, maf is the obvious answer, though it could be something else...

Could have been a derv running a big map on it, my mates TDi Ibiza's mapped with a few tweaks and its on the money. Not much of a power band but when its in it....kerblammo!.

The wee thing still had the verve sticker on the back window! lol well my mate had the 225 TT n said a 1.9 diesel astra kept up with him? 2006+ plate vauxhalls im talking about...

What about the rolling road idea?

Iv just had 4 new coils and a brand new maf sensor 3 days ago :noway:

There is a skoda favorit around here which is a derv and played with in a big way. Boy does it go with lot's of black smoke i would'nt worry too much mate if there was plenty of black it was probly well tuned up.

There was a Mk2 Golf that used to race at the pod that was a diesel, ran low 13's I seem to remember...with huge amounts of black smoke and turbo whine :)

My next car might be an oil burner, I quite fancy 40+ MPG and bags of grunt.

T

Yea i remember that it went really well the guy now has a mk2 golf pick up the the same engine in it

Theres a Skoda driver round here with over 300bhp to the wheels in his pd fabia.
Very intresting build.
Usernames TDIfurby over on briskoda for anyone intrested.

I used to love seeing that car run, mainly for the smoke it used to produce!

Auch am gutted! I want my car to be a power house! stupi things keep up n i hate it!

Can anyone give me a rough price for a rolling road to give me some stats??

Power runs are about £30 ish I think.

Remaps are so cheap and easy to do these days that every tom **** and harry with a turbo'd car is running one.

You need to step up the game these days just to see off a sodding polo!

I drew a stale mate in the summer against an old astra gte which sounded like it was throttle bodied but I was still disapointed.

A polo diesel with a remap will shift, probably have about 180bhp and lots of torque, still I'd expect you to be quicker, could be time for a remap yourself...

My A3 with 194 bhp was quicker than my mates A3 tdi remapped, so an S3 standard should be quicker also...diesels are quick but they haven't got the power band to follow you up above 60mph when rolling...

My mate had an Astra GTE 16v on throttle boddies, very quick car, back then they didn't have the safety features that later cars do, weight is a big factor...

I've surprised a few modern cars in my modded Midget! Power-to-weight a big factor there.
I've also kicked the **** of a few STIs in my dad's MG - a 1967 MGB Roadster with a heavily breathed-on Range Rover 4.0 V8! You could call it a sleeper if it weren't for the gorgeous rumble giving the game away!
A 2008 Golf GTi couldn't keep up with me lastnight (in the S3), even though he caught me in the wrong gear. I reckon his must've been tuned too 'cos he had a fruity exhaust and aftermarket wheels.
What they were all doing on my private road i'll never know!:sly:

I think a standard S3 power and torque wise is below par these days with current torquey diesels (often mapped) knocking about.

Get yourself a remap to make sure they're kept in check!

there's a lot of these threads popping up at the moment. This is the problem now a days mate. A simple oil burner with a remap can cause us all kinds of issues.

This just goes to prove that there's always something faster out there!

Looks pretty wet out there also, not much is going to keep up with you now lol :)

I think everybody is forgetting the 4wd transmission loss and S3's are slow as in standard form.

i think you forget the tranmission loss is from standing starts, rolling your gear will be engaged to a large degree and so shouldn't take that much effect when compared a 2wd....id say theres sumat wrong with his car, no Polo out there mapped or not would give you hassle, all apart from the 1.8T of which im unsure what turbo is hitched up....power to weight is defo against ya regardless. Regards the Vectra, theres no way anything except the 3.2 should be giving you any grief, id say you have an issue with your car.

probably a Pd130, remapped..... and yes they will out accelerate a lardy S3
muchos torque and about 180bhp from them and a few hundred kg less to drag around

you've been 'smoked' - quite litterally

If you come across a PD170 mk6 gofl TDi, dont even bother trying, as once mapped, they will simply leave you in their wake.
{said as a devout petrol head, but the ones I map now go like stink.. for the fuel of the devil}

just wait until its anything other than bone dry, and then you will have a chance with 4wd whilst his tcs keeps flashing disco lights at him.

The guy who did my remap (Mark from Chip n' Spin) has a mk4 golf 1.9 (150ps) TDI that he'd remaped to over 300lb torque and he said he's worried a few Imprezas. And I notice that you can get a 1.9 (130ps) Diesel engine in the polo!

got 2 friends with 1.9 TDI engines (Bora + VRS). Both are mapped and both are very torquey (300lb ft) and before I had my S3 they did feel pretty rapid, now they feel ordinary, thought one was broke. On the road even with there extra 100 lbs ft of torque they dont keep up with my un mapped S3.

My brothers remapped mk4 gttdi can keep up with me up steep hills lol. Ish.

remapped 130pd polo will drive away from a stock s3, and keep up pull away from a remapped one in my experience... dammit..

devils fuel.. should'nt be possible.. should'nt be allowed - lol - and they're doing 40mpg whilst doing it too..

ya boo shux

:p

dont they tail off quite quickly though? ive always had the thought that diesels were more heavily modified when turbo'd that there wouldnt be as much left for remapping.....and because they were tuned with turbos to turn the normally crappy lump into a decent runabout, then once the turbo tails off, your left with a bogged down pile of metal

lmfao, love my derv, just awaiting the custom map now I fitted my hybrid, smoke you later, lol.
