Shark Fin Ariel, Wiring Up!!!

So finally figured out how to remove my ariel now , but i could do with knowing what this red wire is for on the shark fin:

I know the large black one is what connects into the ariel lead but wheres the red go, should i just tape it up and leave it unconneceted?

It's probably a wire for you to wire it up to a live, is the sharkfin amplified?

This is not an Audi Antenna! What car have you taken it from? as this may help us in finding out what the red wire is for.

I didnt mate, bought it off flebay as new, item discription said it was for all audi/vw/seats, guessing its not now.

I don't see how this will ever get any sort of decent reception. Even on Audi's with Shark fins, the FM aerial is still either a conventional one or in the rear screen. As far as I'm aware you need an aerial with a verticle component for FM and as such this looks very small.

Shark fins are normally for GSM or GPS.

Audi's after late 2004 use connectors called "Fakra" And yes you have been sold a Pup. Search on ebay.de and not the UK site for Audi Shark Fin The one you are looking for has two Fakra connector on it and not four. One is for GPS and the other is for Telephone

But if are just wanting to have a shark Fin for FM reception, then you may be looking for ever. I take it that your Audi had a whip antenna on the roof and not on the windows?

Fakra only came in on 2005 vehicles onwards, everything before is standard ISO. All you need is an antenna extension to reach the HU and then any old 5amp wire to extend the 12v feed for the red wire. The red wire just connects to the power antenna feed on the HU as JoJo said. If you are using the stock HU then you need to connect it to the wire on the 20 pin mini ISO connector with the little switch symbol shown below, or you can also connect to the S-Kont wire on the black power ISO connector. Whatever you do DO NOT connect to the perm live as it will flatten your battery.

Yes i just had the standard roof ariel, but its now corroded so need a new ariel and came across this.
Only wanted a simple straight swap, think ill just ben the shark ariel, any ideas on a replacement ariel?
