when i pull on my handbrake it hits the armrest has it been fitted too far forward or is this the norm.

I've stopped using mine on all but steep hills because of this problem but mines a DSG so its safe in "P"

If you watch TopGear you might have seen the episode where James and Richard work for a taxi company on monkey bikes. In that they get to drive an A3 and the owner points it out as rubbish design, James then slags off the 1.6 Engine and harsh ride!

Mine is OK, sounds like yours is coming up to high, needs adjusting maybe ?

I dont get this ?? Are you talking about when the arm rest is in its folded down position ? I have the top of mine horizontal and the hand brake dosnt come anywhere near that high.

into week two of my :s3addict: and the armrest is permanently fold away in between the 2 seats....imo it's in the way most of the time and a useless extra.... my missus also keeps hitting her arm against it when she get's into the car....:ermm: with the bucket seats it's a mission getting in and out... oh well it's there when you want it down and does offer some extra stowage...

Sounds to me like you have the hang of this FOLDING armrest thing...The idea for a FOLDING arm rest is it FOLDS out the way when your not using it. Tell the misis to get in her own side and stop climbing over the top from your side :)

I have a problem if i pull the steering wheel right out and slide the seat forward......I just dont fit anymore...its a design fault ya know !!:)

:) when it's all the way down it's fine for gear changes and doesn't seem to annoy one that much but yes, the hand brake then hits it. I've seen on the RHD models that the handbrake sits aside from the armrest so think it's only for our LHD models that zeee Germans didn't bother to correct the ergonomics....:slap:As with the footrest.... Still love my 8P though:)

Ah !! thats probably it then. Mind you , you would think Zee Germans would build to suit LHD as they drive on the wrong side themselves :)

After months of trying to get hold of an armrest for a reasonable price I managed to buy one for £40.

This is the one thread I didn't want to see!! :faint:

Still dont get the problem. I supose i might have an after market armrest that sits higher as it was on the car when i brought it..

This is hand brake full on and arm rest on 1st click..Maybe 2" clearance there at lest

Ah..gotcha, that would do it then. I suppose that with DSG i don't have to get to the gear stick that much either. I guess with manual i might want it sloping down a bit as well.

Paddy, thats because in that pic its a dsg and no need to change gear i like driving with the armrest down changing gears without moving too much. just means when i put the handbrake on it brings the armrest up and i need to reset when taking off.

sorry paddy i posted that without refreshing the page and missed your last post
