Done a deal with my 18" A8 Sport rims&tyres for these 17" winters...

Driving down to South Mimms Services and picking them up on Thursday evening.

Must be quite rare, what they off? A8 again?

Whats the sample photo fitted too? Seem to sit really far inside the arch?

I think you might need some more tyre for an A4 though, the S4 runs 225/45r17's on 7.5" rims, and iirc the 1.8TQS is 215/45r17 on 7" rims.
 
Not quite sure what they're off... I think they're actually A6 winters. The pic is of them on an A6 - hence the LARGE arches!

Think I might need some spacers to bring them out a bit. We'll see what they're like when they're fitted. Got a feeling I might need to raise the car slightly too to stop the chassis dragging!

I also believe these are 8's - so the same width as I'm already running, but a fair bit more stretch on them. No danger of any bodywork fouling with these!
 
its more the 205/40 tyre is going to look a bit lost inside the arch than it fouling on anything?

It'll have taken about an inch and a half off the stock diameter, meaning the car will be closer to the ground too... maybe thats the idea, but i'd have thaught in winter you want to be further away from all the crud on the road, not closer!
 
Depending on what they look like once they're on, depends on how long I keep them!

Might sell them on for some more 18's yet... just don't know. I really want some 18" fat-5's for the winter...
 
Dont the fat 5's go for megabucks?

Isnt a winter wheel supposed to be some cheap scrapper you dont really care about? :p

It was either a case of swapping my 18's for these at no cost, or forking out for a full refurb on the A8 rims (as they were pretty ropey).

Will post pics when they're on. :salute:
 
Holstens are what I really wanted to be honest. They've been my favourite wheels for years. Almost persuaded Rach to get a set for her TT (in multi 5x100/112 fitments though of course!) but she bottled it!

Holstens or Fat-5's... yummy!
 
I really like Holstens too.. was tempted before my RS4s but got a good price on them so that swayed me.
 
I'm sure i've seen some A8 or Merc rims that are similar to those holstens but bigger than the 17" ones you've got.

Infact i think a chap on this forum has a set of polished ones on his A4?

Well, got around to fitting them this weekend... it's a bit ****** low now! It's about as low as you can go, without being on air-ride!

Dude, I'm running 10's on the back already, any more and the tyres will catch the arches.

I think I can fit a pair of 5's on the front, but any more and it'll catch the arch-liner around the edge there too. Can't fit your finger up there at the moment as it is!

Thinking I'll keep them as they are until I take the tyres off (to fit the right sizes on!) and then get them powder-coated in silver again. Black looks good, but I can see myself disliking them at some point. At least silver is a safe colour!

I could be tempted to swap them for a set of 'Fat 5's' if anyone has any!

Not sure on the name of these, but I think they're A6 winters... I can't find any pictures of anything that has the centre cap on them... they all seem to have the bolts exposed. I'd appreciate any help on these if you have info!

they are really nice mate, i want them for my a4 but cant find any as im runnin black chrome rims atm and not really sure on them, can i have first dib on them if u sell them cheers
 
If you want these, then you can buy the Fat 5's I've seen and swap them over with me...?

Car's good thanks mate.

She had a good wash and wax on Friday, new stereo facia surrounds have been delivered today so I can fit the stereo properly and get some tunes on and then it's getting the remaining bits for the turbo conversion together.

My aim is to get the turbo running correctly and mapped etc ready for the Spring Fest at Santa Pod.. although it's a long way away I think that's a realistic date.
 
These are now sold after accpeting an offer i couldn't refuse.

My BBS's are now up for sale also (see classifieds).

More new rims ahead... :icon_thumright:
