Converting from split grille to single. Help Please

Hi there people, I have wanted to get the grille changed from the spit one to the single which are on 2005+ models. I have read the post which shows you how to do it exactly here:

But i am still none the wiser. I am looking to actually do that conversion as he did it in that post and have that result on my car but i need a bit of help, i dont know exactly the parts i require weather if its off ebay or wherever.

I have included some pictures of the front of my car to show you people what its like.

You'll need these parts:

Sline fog each (2) 8E0941699C & 8E0941700C
Fog plugs each (2) 3D0941165A
Fog repair wires (2) 000979244

Sline optics grill 8P4853651DVMZ or
Sline silver grill 8P4853651D1QP

Sline number plate surround Black 8P4807285G3FZ or
Sline number plate surround Grey (Silver) 8P4807285G1QP

Sline bumper 8P0807105AGRU
Sline fog surround each (2) 8P4807681F & 8P4807682F
Sline bonnet 8P4823029B

The first 2 will but the bottom one is an 09 facelift so wont!


i've done the conversion myself, its quite simple. You need to make a decision as to whether you are wanting a normal facelift front or the S line version. The S line version is a bit more costly as you need new fogs and grilles. The standard facelift bumper uses your original fogs.

Bumpers and grilles are esy to come by on Ebay, the bonnet is harder to find though, you may end up buying a new one from audi.
 
Can anybody find me an S-Line Bumper on ebay or does anybody have one for sale on here?

Sorry to be a pain, its just that i am new to Audi as its my 1st A3 so i dont know alot about them.

Hi James

Both links are for S-line bumpers and are the only ones on ebay. All the other are facelift 09 or either standard and just advertised as s-line. With the one below i'd ask for closer picture. You can always tell s-line bumper from standard bumper. Remember S-line h as two vertical bars under where the grill rests on the bumper and standard as four.

Bare in mind you can get the s-line bumper i think £200 new or even lower. Pm Stoke Audi on here there alot cheaper than main dealers. How you finding your A3?
 
Thanks for that benskin07, i have emailed the ebayer from the 1st link to send me a bigger picture so hopefully he/she will, from looking at the ebay pictures it seems like there are the 4 vertcal bars on that bumper. what about the 2nd link which you posted, would that be ok? i see the 2 verticle bars on that bumper under the grille.

And as for the A3, i am loving it, it is 10 times better than my old car, it was a pug 206 2.0 hdi and it was awful.

That what i was thinking, by what was said seems like its an standard bumper which just a s-line grill and a lower lip put on. Maybe votex front lip. The second one, the black one i believe would be fine thats 100% s-line as you already stated you can see the two vertical bars.
Haha dont seem like you liked the pug. I went from a corsa to my A3 so much better. Any more plans for the car mate? Oh yeah one last thing the bonnets are like gold dust hardly ever on ebay best bet would be to get a new one for £150 from the dealer.

Correct, its a standard bumper with a votex lip. The easiest way to tell a standard v S line is that the S line has no rubbing strips round the middle, the standard ones have them, simples!

i just rang the bloke who is selling the bumper for £170 and he said he would take £150 for it, you think i could get it any cheaper or is that cheap enough? other plans for the car are 18" RS6 alloys, lowered on coilovers and window tints, but this facelift conversion is the 1st on my list.

£150 is qutie a good price. I dont think you will get one cheaper in less it comes up on ebay! Not even sure Stoke Audi can match that. Still worth Pm Dave seeing what he can do. But £150 is a good price.

I might buy that bumper then, I will ring the bloke and see what he says and see if i can get it any cheaper, i will have to buy all the other parts aswell for the conversion so i hope i can get hold of them pretty easily and quickly as it may take some time trying to get some of the parts as forum members say some are like gold dust to get.

Yeah the engine is 2.0 TDI, its pretty quick, i plan on keeping this about 2-3 years and make a good job of modding it then get one of them new diesel TT's i think.

Just a quick question, if i was to go with the standard facelift and not the S-Line single grille conversion would this bumper be ok?

Sorry i never messaged you back, just checked my mail and saw it. Yeah be a good buy let us know how you get on. If you were to buy that blue bumper/grill you could fit your fog lights and surrounds you have on your bumper now. So there be no need to go buy new ones and save yourself so money.

Nice thought about a remap? Nice choice in next car aswell! .
Also with the standard bumpers you can fit lower parts like Votex Lower Lip or some off ebay

Bailey that one on ebay is for the bumper and grill i hope you havent bought a seperate bumper as you mentioned it was only a grill in your post :detective2:

Yeah thats fine mate, i needed the bumper and grille. i will need to put a new bumper and grille on my car in order to do the single big grille conversion. i needed both them parts.
 
I went up to Stoke Audi Garage yesterday to enquire about the bonnet i will need for the conversion. They quoted me £206.91 inc VAT. As these are like rocking horse s**t i think i will be just as well buying one from there.

Thats a bit much James. Email pjmspeedy forum member on here, he can get parts cheap aswell i think he quoted me for a bonnet £163.11. Save yourself a bit then

Just got the bumper, grille and bonnet though all today so i am happy about that. Just need to get them sprayed and fitted now. My friend who has been in the bodywork trade for years has said he will spray and fit them for £200 as it is on the side work, he has done loads before and he makes a good job. what do you think?

Here is a pic of the bumper and grille, it will be sat in my bedroom until sprayed whereas the bonnet is still bubblewraped down the shed.

After a month of waiting the conversion is done and i am pleased with it. i have only taken two pictures so far and they arent the best but i will post them. any thoughts? ideas welcome?

I see you collected the car after last night james. Must say what a difference it makes and your private plate:icon_thumright: Looks good mate.
You pleased with the out come? Also what did you think of the LCR splitter? You check that link out after? Or a votex front splitter would look nice. Any more plans?

I looked at them splitters,they look pretty good. might consider one lol.

I'm looking to do a front conversion on my a3.. but im still confused.. ive got the audi a3 2.0tdi sport on an 04 plate.. and i want to convert the front to the s line version for eg lyk on the 07 plates. ive seen a few bumpers and bonnets on ebay.. but i was wondering do i also need to change the reinforcement bar?

this is the bumper ive seen on ebay.. i plan on changing the lower grills to the fog light ones. will this bumper be suitable for my conversion. im aware that the bonnet needs changing aswell.. jus concerned if the bar also needs changing...

is that an aftermarket parking sensor kit? Mine are in the lower crease of the bumper!

no mate, thats an 08 facelift bumper so wont fit, you need the slightly older 06-07 shape one. Also you wont need to do anything with the reinforcement bar.

No that bumper wont fit. Its the latest facelift so you need new head lights, wings etc. The bumper and grill you need is from 2005(55reg)-2008(08reg) a3. You wont need to change it. You only need to change the bar if your going for the S3 bumper. J
