when going over ruff surfaces my brake pads are rattling in the carrier. was wondering if there is ment to be metal spring clips in them to stop this. if there is they are not fitted and think that is the problem.

thanks in advance

i had the same problem , i used a smear of silicone on the backs and it sorted it .

Craigs S4 does this, and it sounds pretty nasty.

Took us ages to work out what it was too!

The later S4 calipers had a different pad and different anti rattle springs to stop the noise, if its the early calipers you have then try andys suggestion.

When you say a smear, how thick & how heat resistant was the silicone given heat generated from braking?

only a thin smear just aloowed it to nearly set then squezzed them back in . Its kind of a touch thing i just give them a wiggle to see if they stopped rattling . No problems with heat and only had to do it once.

about 5 years ago ? i now need new disks and pads , ive got rs4 calipers with all the bits in my garage just need discs pads and some kind of rear upgrade to match .
