In a Tardis!!
After a year of ownership and my third S3 in total, i'm selling up and going to the dark side.

Mitsi Evo 7, just trying to find a nice one which hasn't been messed around with is the problem. Have tried MLR but there aren't many 7's on there.

Am i doing the right thing?

G

You dirty b***h haha, i want a evo 6 or 4 but cant afford the insurance :(. Do it, sod the s3 haha.

I test drove one before I bought the S3. Fantastic cars so much better than the stock S3 performance and handling wise but the interior isn't a match on the S. I would still love one but insurance that was 3 times the price of the S and servicing every 4.5k put a stop to that.

That is a consideration, i've had a quote of £700 on an Evo as opposed to £300 for the S3.

Hmmm so undecided on what to do.

G

You've got to do what you've got to do I suppose!.

There are some itches that just need scratching!!

At end of the day what kind of car do you want?

I'm not sure thats the thing. I'm trying to weigh up options of Evo ownership over that of my S3.

I mean my S3 is mint, ive just had MOT done, it's Tax'd, just about to have new discs and pads done too.

Just become "bored" i think. 3rd one and just fancy something different. Maybe if i splash some cash on it like wheels and engine stuff i'll feel different.??

Emery...make an offer.

Remap it, see if that brings back the lost love :-(

Why not Evo5?, easily better looking than the 6, but the Evo6 is the ultimate Evo, especially in TME form out the box of course. Evo7 onwards have been refined a little, but they are still very quick and capable machines.

Reasons for not having one.... you worry about it every where you park it, infact, you worry about it just driving it! You will lose your licence very quickly, and you need shares in Shell and a second morgage for up keeping, they require servicing every 3k miles.

Reasons to want one... any Evo will pretty much be the quickest point to point saloon money can buy, and driven properly, they are so much fun, if a little to clinical. You will get bored of 280bhp, and find a stage1 remap will give 300+ easily, happy days. :) You also won't care about 15mpg when you are giving it the beans. :racer:

All just my opinion of course, I'm lucky enough to have driven and test drove many Evo's and Scoobys, and whilst they are a hoot, I can't see myself living with one in the long term.

Of course, I still have my S3... but that's only because I can't afford the Audi R8 I want to replace it with... yet! :)

Long time no speak Mr G. Hope your well. Dont sell your S3 lol! Looked brand new with the paint work last time i saw her, not a mark on her. She a good example of a tidy and well looked after example of an S3. I know you said your bored buts its your 3rd S3. The S3 must be doing some thing right to keep you coming back. Spend some money on here alloys and engine setc that could change your mind? also quick questions you attending ADI?

Thanks for the comments and views lads.

I guess time will tell. I've had a quote for insurance and am not put off by it.

Think i'll list my car up for £6,000 which i feel is a good price given the cars condition and mileage. Not sure if thats too much or too little, but feels just about right.

Spent loads on it, keeping it nice.

Sooo....just trying to find another car now!

I'll give mine a detail before it goes so the new owner can see what a car "can" look like if it's looked after.

Ben: What is ADI? Audi Driver International?

G

You change your mind like the weather mate!

I'd say your car may be worth a touch more than £6K.

Also have you thought about how long it'll take you to detail an EVO! They're big cars with lots of curves.

ooooh good choice G!! im same as jojo, i think they are awesome cars, just couldnt live with one for my 10mile work drive every morning....if comforts your thing then they arent ideal....if it isnt get one bought!!! I would if i werent ussing it for commuting ;)

Servicing is every 4500 miles. Fantastic fun to drive as you rightly say.
I had an Evo VII FQ300 and had it remapped and it felt amazing, the interior is not as nice as an S3's but it wears very well although I found the speedometers a pain as it doesn't show all the speeds if I recall correctly.

If you find an unmolested one it will be a miracle ;)

700 for insurance
i would actually kill for that .
im going evo route once i turn a age that is seen as sensible to insurers
not payin 5 k a year for insurance
how much you got to spend on a evo ?

Thanks for all the posts lads.

I've decided....(i'm terrible, as Westle pointed out) and so indecisive at the best of times so this is a miracle, lol, but i'm keeping it.

Spending some hard earned cash will help the situation i think.

Thanks again.

Time to get back to my detailing lol :)

Heheh...

I'm hoping thats the case.

What i'm trying to source by christmas is some Audi S8 Avus wheels to fit onto my car. Think that would look lovely, the 18" would sit nice under a 20mm drop i think.

Already sourced the spacers/adapters.

Can't find the wheels anywhere though. On the upside cars booked in on 19th October for the work to begin on suspension.

G

Yes mate I've always wanted the 18" avus but the price has always put me off. Aren't the S8 and S4 Avus the same?

If only there was a wheel company that did a cheapish set of reps I'm sure they'd make a killing.

Wes...

The S8 wheel is exactly the same design as ours only 18". The S4 wheel is the same as our wheels including the size, as you already know is 17".

The offsets are different for the S3, S4 & S8 respectivley. So there would be no point in fitting an S4 wheel to our cars as it's the same size, however, the S8 wheel is bigger which should look nicer, the only thing that lets the S3 down in my opinion is the fact it has 17" wheels. I want to keep it OEM+ looking so S8 is the way i'm going.

The new S4 V8 wheel looks ok, but is too modern for my liking and doens't quite site right with the cars age. So, i'm sticking with the S8 on adapters, have spoken to a very very knowledgable chap who can provide them for around £100. So i just need to find some wheels now. Which as i've already said is proving to be very very hard.

At least i know i'll have a rare setup when i do eventually get them.

I'm gonna ring Audi soon= for a price :O

G

17" Avus(AvusII) rims off an S4 is from the B5 S4, which are the same as 8L S3 rims with different stud pattern. 18" Avus(AvusIII) rims are from the B6/B7 S4 and are slightly diffferent.

Good Luck with the Evo there lovely cars, was having a look myself b4 i got the S3 but there were well out of my price range on insurance, no 1 would insure me, only been driving 20months and no1 would touch me lol

Evo's are great....... right up until someone takes it off you....sadly!.

I'm not getting an Evo now, decided to keep it. ^^

The S4 V8 (style avus) is not the wheel i'm talking about.

I'm talking about the cars of the same MY. So S3, S4, S8 of say a 2000 MY. They all share the same wheel design, AVUS II (the first avus wheels are on the S2 and the early S8 (RONIN film type). The S4 has 17" as standard as does our S3 but different stud pattern as Jo said and also different offset.

The S8 again has AVUS II wheel design but 18" and different offset to the two above wheels.

Hope that makes sense.

I'm after the S8 wheel and will be fitting it with a PCD adaptor built into a spacer also. So the wheels will be 18" AVUS II fitted on my S3 with the wheel coming out to the arch, or just abouts.

Should look lovely and something which has not been done before.

G

I know the wheels you mean G, the masive ones off the S8..... same as the S3 wheels but bigger.

Saw an S8 with them on a couple of weeks ago and thought they'd look good on an S3.

Dont see many S8's about though so getting hold of a set might be tricky.

T

Thanks for clearing that up Jo. I'm asuming that the B6/B7 wheels can still be made to fit the S3?

Yes you can, they will need hub adaptors though, and that will change the offset of the wheel. I think the B6/7 wheels are ET45, so a set of 20mm adaptors would make then ET25, Ideal for S3 fitment to fill the arches up nicely.

Killing two birds with one stone! No need to by spacers
