Went online thursday night and ordered a pair of number plates. The site said delivery time of 4-12 working days. I received an email on friday saying my plates had been dispatched and I should received them the next working day via FedEx. Low and behold at 1 o'clock today my plates arrived as promised!! Now they are fitted.

So impressed by the speed!!! If you require any plates, show plates or legal ones I can't recommend CraigsPlates enough

What's the penalty for illegal plates? 3 points and a fine?

Are there any entirely legal pressed plates?

One of my neighbours is Bronze so he gave me the heads up and his comment was "If ya get tugged for 'em they'll 'ave ya, cuz if they is wastin time pullin' for plates then they're bored. If they can't 'ave ya on the plates they'll find summat else. If they can't pin ya for the plates they'll take the **** an scour ya car for anyfin. I've known 'em give a ticket for not 'aving water in the screenwash bottle cuz they got the **** wiv a lad who got gobby 'bout his plates. Jus play dumb, be polite an tell 'em you'll get 'em changed as soon as. 9 times out of 10 they won't bother checking up anyways." WORD FOR WORD, accent included.

No there isn't, all pressed plates are illegal and for show only. Also it's a £60 fine on the spot.

Just had a look on there and pressed plates are legal but then the font, the lack of postcode of supplier, and the "D" in the blue strip make mine show plates. There again the spacing on my original plastic plates and the fact that they had "AARON" printed on the bottom of them made them illegal too and I didn't get tugged for them. Don't drive like a muppet and you won't draw attention to yourself.

As long as you know you might get a ticket then fair do's, your choice.

Personally I've never seen the attraction of trying to make by car look like its German but each to their own.

T

PS: Nothing to do with boredom being caught...its an offence so could be acted upon!.

I'm fully aware of this terrible offence that I am committing. This travesty must be acted up on immediately!!! LMAO!!! It's a good job I bought them and not you. Also it was a copper who said it was boredom so I'm afraid I'm more inclined to believe him.

There's also one telling you otherwise ;)

Nicely put Tom!

I thought that pressed plates were legal? As long as they have the right spacing and font etc?

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Here is a question for Tom then, I'm not getting the **** but, how come I'm hearing exact opposites from the two of you then? The fella in my street is Met, I can only assume coming from Solihull you're more local. And really what is the problem with plates like mine? I can understand it if the font was difficult to read or the plate was too small(I used to have a bike and my reg plate fitted in my wallet!! Took me 3 days to tugged). But in reality the font and spacing is easy to read and considering we're all part of europe surely the euro ring and D and the fact the plate is DIN stamped(German version of BS) would make it acceptable.

I dont work where I live, and as for being 'more local', dont beleive the hype about the Met, we're all dealing with the same stuff....they just like to make out they're the only ones though ;) I work in one of the biggest cities in the UK.

The plates are illegal as ANPR cameras cant read them, I see this first hand. Not a problem you may think but ANPR is designed to flag up cars with PNC information reports on them. They could be stolen reports, wanted owners etc etc. If your car was stolen it would more than likely not only 'ping' on the thousands of static cameras on the motorway/major road network but also ones in Police vehicles. This means that chances are your pride and joy could be driving around undetected. Road Policing units are there to Police the roads, so are told to act upon things like offences such as number plate fonts as well as speeding, manner of driving, other traffic offences. You're more likely to get a tug from traffic than you are a beat panda, but any constable can issue you a ticket for them should they desire. Personally I'll just tell you to change them and give you a slip to change them over that you have to get stamped at an MOT station. If I saw you again with them afterwards then the ticket book would be coming out....cant say fairer than that.

I wasnt having a dig at you for fitting them though, its your car. As long as you dont start a thread on here ranting if/when you get liberated of £60 for running them ;)

I have absolutely no intention of starting such a thread, in the same way as when I do break the speed(which everyone does at one point or another) I wouldn't start a thread on here or any other forum moaning about getting a ticket for that either.
As for the black rats they do seem to think they are the be all and end all and that they can get away with murder on the roads, I've seen the way this one drives!!

You want to have a word with him about that!.

We had a chat at a bbq earlier this year and I asked him if he'd ever been pulled, he said "Yeah but then the tickets always end up getting "lost" in the system, funny how that happens." Still he is driving like a nutter.

Thats The Met for you ;)

I've not had any tickets so I cant vouch for them being 'lost', I know a lot of people at work who have had them and have the points to show for it.

My money is on him pulling your leg.
