TT-S will have a lighter shell as half of it is steel and the other half is aluminium. Saw some literature from Audi in the past that shows it was done to better balance the weight of the vehicle, and the rear mounted battery in the boot configuration adds to the weight balance distribution.

I think it is a very beautiful car, but slightly impractical if you don't have something slightly bigger to call on in your garage for shopping / family days. The rear seats are so small that they may as well not be there unless your kids are single digit ages or have no legs. It would be fine for Gary Glitter :undwech:

That said, with its slightly lower and better distributed weight, lower centre of gravity etc... it must be a very good car to drive.

I'd be tempted by a second hand TT-RS, I just question that the TT-S is enough of a step up from my S3 given the spec. I'm getting a bit tired of the 2.0T and its foibles, so would be interested to try the 2.5 next.

You're right though. My old A3 was nowhere near as good as my S3 and it had quattro. A standard 2.0T TT won't even touch a TT-S.

I've owend a couple of TTs and nearly went for the TTS, but went for the more practical and cheaper S3. I've driven both Audis in anger, I'd agree on the handling side, but performance wise I did not think there was much in it. I've twice had a TTS driver try to play games with me and there was nothing it - now that's either because I am better driver (unlikely) or because in reality (on the road) there is feck all in it. Don't let people tell you the S3 is inferior to a TTS, it isn't! It is pretty much the same car and they are both great! IMO the S3 (3 door) is the looker as well, at least in IBIS white :nyah:

As for the TTRS... make sure you try a Cayman S or a low mileage 997 first! £45K for a TT that makes a nice noise :jester:

I used to get it all the time with the MINI, too, but fk me that was one the most fun cars ever to drive, so if that's a girl's car then who gives a **** what some keyboard warrior who can't afford one calls it, haha.

A friend has a Carrera 4S...thats a hairdressers cars. Real men have the 2S and the inherant danger that brings ! Its just a bit of fun.:yes:

There was a post on here the other day about a bloke who had bought an S3 2 months ago and never done more than his 15 miles a day commute to work, I actually can't beleive what a waste of a car that is!
No matter what the car is it's always in the driver.

As for TT vs S3 question, for me, the TT is a womans car (sorry lads) its always been known as a hairdressers/womans car, and sticking a powerful motor in it doesn't change that.

If i was in the market for a fast car, i wouldn't even be looking at the Audi brand.

Like i said, i didn't want to offend anyone. Theres no denying Audi make some very adequate machines. But a TT-RS or RS4 is no 911 turbo, they lack in so many other departments. Having been taken out in a friends R8 (not driven it myself) I don't think it really deserves the 80k tag, sure its fast and fairly comfy, but it just doesn't feel like a supercar.

And why would you expect it to feel like a supercar? £80k is less than the cost of a Lexus LS600h. Ok, that's quite a nice saloon, but I wouldn't expect to get a supercar for anywhere near the same money as a Lexus saloon.

The R8 is a high-performance car, rather than a supercar.

but they do have 2 boots! hehe (because the engine is in the right place). I managed a week camping trip in mine for 2 people, more space than you'd think, and i'm 6'2.

Not really comparable cars though in my opinion, but I agree, the Porker wins hands down over the TTS in every way especially the S.

If I was looking at spending 911 Turbo money then apart from the R8 V10 I probably wouldnt be looking at an AUDI neither.

I would be looking at AUDIs close relative, Lambo.

For real world fast stuff like small Coupes, hatches, salloons then I still reckon AUDI have a pretty decent line up.

You can get a 2008 911 Turbo for 80k, and that certainly feels like a supercar.

It's priced to compete against these rivals, and in every review i've seen it's put against supercars. Unless i'm missing something i'm sure it was Audis attempt at a supercar.
 
I suppose it depends on the definition of a super car ? I would say that the R8 is probably as near as you can get at present without spending £100k +.
Like the 911 its been designed to be usable which actually puts it a cut above the Italians.
 
For the sake of this little thread excusion, shouldnt it be a comparision between the R8 V8 and C4S? rather than the Turbo?

I certainly think the R8 is a more `special` looking car but for me thats a lot to do with the fact there are so many 911s kicking about that they just dont have the same visual impact anymore. And on the inside they are more functional than special.

Ive driven a C2 and a couple of C4S` of 996 vintage and they are very good.
But maybe not brutually fast enough to be special. Maybe thats the same for the R8 V8?

I didnt have 80K anyway so it matters not.
And because there arent such things as 6 yr old R8 changing hands for 25K I will still quite like a used 911.

Just chopped my S3 in for a 997 911 C2. The 997 interior IMHO is leagues better than the 996 and easily on par with the S3. To be honest its not a great deal faster than the S3 in a straight line but in the twisties it all makes sense. (Wait for the .... but if you upgrade suspension on the S3 :) )

Agreed! A Porsche feels alive in your hands through the wheel, like you are really driving it, it's a hard thing to explain to other people. Steering feel is not something the S3 does particularly well, but then its a dam sight cheaper than a 997.

I have to say though, I actually preferred the interior in my 986 than in my 987 (which would be the same as comparing the 996 and 997)
 
Apart from practicality I`m pretty sure the 997 has the S3 licked on all accounts.
No surprises there though, the 911 is a proper, ground up, sports car with the price tag to reflect.

I nice car indeed.

My point was that if I was looking for a fast car, I reckon AUDI have a pretty strong line up.
Something for everyone except maybe the supercar customer, and then you have Lambo in the group for that.

Anyway, Ive just checked my lottery ticket and got **** all so the `which supercar`dlimemna is at least another week away.

Quicker in the straight line yes. Mmm exciting. Im sure most of us dont want to be organ doners ahead of our time.

As for the TT v S3. I like both. I'd have to consider long and hard chossing between the two. I do love the S3 but would be good to have a change and experience another car allbeit very similar.

But you see there is the problem for A3/S3 owners ! all you would be doing really is changing the body. when your in your car the outside really doesn't matter...its sort of there for others to look at. The inside is what concerns you since thats where you are........and that is where a A3/S3/TT/TTS sort of merges into one. I recently looked at buying a 3.2 TT but it was just too near what i already have to warrant the extra money. In fact the A3 is a lot more comfortable after a few hundred miles :yes: We spend a small fortune jazzing up the outside of our cars but the truth is 99% of peopledon'tt notice..and when, like the other day one crops up for sale with the wrong bumper on it we all shout cut/shut !! Front end prang..etc...and yet half the cars here have the wrong parts on..:laugh:
 
May i just add , i was working at a chaps house 2 weeks ago and he had a 911 turbo 58plate convertable with every extra ,, he took me out after the job around 6pm on the carraigeways and roundabouts in Leyland(Preston way)..

Absolutly unreal it was rapid feel 4 wheels spinning in 3rd at 90-100mph but keeping total composure, it was electrifying quick the sound and the handling was sublime.. If i Had the money it would be my dream car.

Ive been in RS4 ,,,I own a S3 and although fun it was nothing in comparison..

The only car that made me smile and feel alive like the 911 turbo was a Noble m400 and of course my beloved Integra Type R dc2:happy:

To be honest i like the S3 comfy nippy nice place to be , but top line model i would expect so much more??,,having only owned in for 2-3 months ive feeling im getting the modding bug, just not quick enough and the chasis needs tightning up somewhat?

Trying to keep with my friend in his Teg Dc2 round a mixed array of straights and twisties,, and just couldn.t get near it was rather embarrasing... Before people say should left him on the straights you would be rather wrong 1st gear a 2-3 car lenghts after that nothing in it..

Suppose 1.8N/A 197bhp -1060kg has its compliments:thumbsup:

Oh and 2year old technology over 13 year old technology..

End of the day its a better car to be in(S3) but its half the performance car and to be honest with you, Ill pick the keys up for the Teg DC2 before the S3 thats saying something, although i am aware of it depends what people desire out of a car..Personally i buy a performance car to be just that:idea:

but the S3 is not really a performance car, neither is the Integra, just varying degrees of hot hatch.

They both have their pro's and cons, I'd much rather take the drive down to Le Mans for instance in the S3 for reasons of comfort, round the track, the choice would be different.

Sounds like you are pretty underwhelmed by your S3.

Reckon Integras and S3 s are as different as you can get, my S3 and CTR were certainly poles apart. Which for me is a good thing.
HONDA `r` cars and premium VAG stuff are so very very different as you know. Going from a CTR to a MK5 Golf meant no more early morning frenzied drives to work, but that was fine by me.
Appreciate DC2 are even more hardcore and capable than CTRs.

Why not sell the S3, buy a nice used £12K MK5Gti and another DC2?

Then you will have well mannered, well built Hot hatch, and something that you enjoy? And probably some change?

Only car Ive ever had and didnt enjoy was a CRX, knew I shouldnt have bought it within a week of getting it, lived with it for a few months and then it was px-ed.
Lost a load a dosh but if its not for you then its a crap ownership experience.

REVO Stage for £500 make a significance difference though, worth the spend.
