Audi s4 brake pads

Hi guys

need some help to choose the right brake pads for my Audi S4

I just get the light on dash and I check the front brake pads and they are gone totally

so new set needed

Car is Audi S4 BI Turbo 1999 and I need front and rear pads so what guys recommend for me

So far I have my eyes on these:

1) BLACK DIAMOND / PREDATOR PADS 'FAST ROAD' (FRONT)
2) EBC / RED STUFF PADS (FRONT) 'FAST STREET'

And for the rear

1) BLACK DIAMOND / PREDATOR PADS 'FAST ROAD' (REAR)
2) EBC / RED STUFF PADS (REAR)

Got mine reasonably cheap on Ebay :icon_thumright:

Think I paid circa 80 quid for my RS4 fronts, but I've just looked on Ebay and S4 fronts seem to be between £120 and £150!!!!! Twice as many pads I guess.

i have standard size ebc grooved and dimpled disc's with the redstuff pads, there are 4 pads per caliper on the front they're a lot better than standard but still not good enough for a tuned s4 i dont think. they get quite noisy once you've ****** them but still bite ok but for £500 for new disc's and pads all round i think i could have done a better upgrade to b7 disc's or rs4 one's

Its Ferodo DS2500 not DS25000

europerformance have them iirc.

Personally i dont rate EBC pads, i'd be going with the DS2500 or Mintex M1144.

I searched the europerformance and I didn't find a Ferodo DS2500 for a S4 or do I need to just buy Ferodo DS2500 and also I want to buy the one that has senser's on them.

As we've been through before, I didn't like EBC Greenstuff or any of EBC's crappy discs, but Red Stuff ceramic pads...............different kettle of fish.

Many experienced tuners are using them on all sorts of impressive machinery these days with great results.

They exist for normal A4's but not the S4 calipers...

i want brakes like that..
when was looking in april i couldnt find the ferrodo ds pads and thought the mintex ones were unusually cheap to be any good compared to ebc ceramic redstuff £80 v's £175 and couldnt find any decent reviews.i'm very happy with the pad performance over stock items but would never pay the premium for the ebc disc's again i think the standard good quality ones would be just as good

ebc discs have a bad reputation for warping and I personally don't like they way they wear sometimes.
Mintex are generally regarded as the amateur rally car pad of choice as they are cheaper and still very useful.
I drove a Mk2 Escort rally car with some viscous Mintex pads on stock dics and the feeling was the same as mine with 80mm bigger discs!

spend your money on pads, discs are discs unless you are tracking a lot and need special size, cooling characteristics etc.

ive had ebc red in past and they were fine, but did lack a bit of response when cold (compared to OE stuff)

ive since had two sets of yellows on my golf and i cannot sing their praises high enough. response from cold is the same as OE and as they get hotter they do bite harder, in the last three years ive had them ive not been able to fade them at all

my car uses ate super blue brake fluid

Isnt the yellow a more track oriented pad than the red?

Seems a bit odd that the yellow would respond better when cold than the lower spec pad?

yup, apparently more of a "track" pad but they do respond better from cold

i remmeber b road blasts with the reds. if you had a long fast section i uses to worry a touch that when i got to the next braking bit it wouldnt have the response i wanted because theyd cooled

with yellows, you dont have to worry about that at all.

im saything this from experience, not manufacturer's blurb or hearsay from the net. when i get an s4, it will have either yellows or mintex 1144s, had great experience with those too

I'm a fan of M1144's myself although i've never used them. When i came to fitting the 312's to the A4 i was thinking about it, but in the end i couldnt afford the premium over the normal mintex redbox.

Mate of mine has 1155's (or perhaps 1166's) in a stripped E36 325i and they squeal a LOT!

haha one of the girls who came to nurburgring with us brought a set of 1155s with her. i fitted them for her one morning in the car park and they squealed big style. i didnt have any grease so that probably didnt help but it wasnt a nice sound... real metal on metal grating

Yeah, two or three hard charges into roundabouts etc and they get better and better after that.

by the time the engine is warm enough to be giving it a bit of power the brakes are well up to temp, the very first use of them when setting off anywhere feels like just below standard pads do but after 2-3 normal stops they're spot on and just get better and i've not had a single squeal from them and very little dust which wipes straight off. i cant comment on the mintex or ferrodo one's but might just try the ebc yellow next if they're even better as mentioned above, i cant see anything being better than them with standard size disc's and calipers

What you guys thinking about the BLACK DIAMOND / PREDATOR PADS 'FAST ROAD' (FRONT) and REAR pads I checked around and they have good review and they are quite cheap too

not tried those pads, but i did fit a set of the grooved discs to a mates golf a couple years ago. to this day they discs are absolutely score free and will easily last two sets of pads

I had black diamond alos on a golf, not sure whihc ones they were, seem to remember dimples. very hard discs, last well.

I had Black Diamond discs on my last 205GTi years ago (with Pagid fastroad pads). No problems at all.
