Wheel Spacers, Yes or No?

Hi guys.
I really like the look of Wheel Spacers and would like some on my S3 but not to sure on where to get them or if they are any good?
I will be remapping her one day so will they be good for that?
Has anyone got a pic of there S3 with them on so i can show my wife cause she hasn't seen them befor.

Certainly make a difference on the S3. Give it a much better stance.

I have 10mm front and 15mm back from H&R. Good quality.
 
I'm running 5mm fronts and 10mm rears, the S3 needs them to push the wheels out, unless your wheels happen to be ET20-25 offset in the first place. Make sure you get hubcentric ones also.

the same on mine,not cheap mind as a few on here have ran away when the price was mentioned ;)

How much are we talking voorhees? and where can you get them?
 
What about longer wheelbolts, where can you buy them? Would they not put more stress on the wheel bearings? Are there any downsides, such as tramlining or rubbing? How wide can you go??

Do you have the bolts with them as well! I have been looking for some also just to go on the standard alloys, loosing out bids on ebay. for around 35 pounds.
 
Mines got 20mm all round. These were put on by a previous owner.

They're a little over the max recommended (ie 10mmF/15mmR) so I was going to reduce them.

However, the previous owner had put them for a reason, as they're needed (fronts at least) to go over the calipers.

I would say the car feels a little less stable under hard acceleration (although I cant really remember how my old car felt like without).

i got a set of 4x 10mm hubcentric one's last month from esp engineering for £80 delivered the next day very good quality too, h+r one's are £90 a pair i believe i'm proper skint at the moment so really hunted around for the best price, even second hand one's are not cheap

I too have the H&R 10mm front 15mm rear from DPM. Expensive but it was something that had to be done imo after lowering the car. Wheels sit nice and flush with the arches now after having the car re-aligned.
 
I have some forge ones. Not cheap at £44 each but I'd highly recommend spacers (especially at the rear).

I'm running 10mm up front and 15mm rear on the standard suspension, I used the H&R kit with longer bolts from the TT shop. I've had no issues with any other suspension components so far.

A worthwhile upgrade IMO :)
 
looks much better with them want some for my A3 now. do you have to replace the bolts or can you keep the standard ones
 
hmmm i have been thinking about these..... dont really wana pay £200 though for such a subtle mod, looking at 20mm at back and either 10 or 15mm up front.....
 
I'm with you tim. I've been looking at these for ages but I'd rather not spend £200 as I think that money would be better spent towards a fmic. Hopefully S4marsh will post up a link. I like the sound of £80 even if the break after 6 months! Haha
 
how do the spacers affect handling though as i thought going too big would knock handling off.

I know your increasing the distance between the wheels and putting more weight on each corner but surely its negligible.
I might see if I can try without them if my Brembo's don't get in the way of the Nuvo's and then go for a steady drive down the country lanes.

Im on standard suspension and Ive just fitted 20mm backs and 13mm fronts from venom, makes a massive difference! for the price they seem very good quality too. I would defo recommend. Think I paid about £160 all in with nuts and bolts. Most places only sell one length of 'overlength' bolts and locking nuts so get the hacksaw ready, unless your lucky like me my dads an engineer so cut them all for me on a lathe Easy!

Im getting four-wheel alignment done next week, Not sure if its needed but dont think its been done before so ill give it a go.

yes i have longer studs, with the nuts, to convert all 4 corners to stud and nuts, rather than the oem setup.

open to offers on spacers and studs
 
Hoggy is that 20mm each side rear? also i think id pay the extra £40 not having direct access to a lathe......hack saw is just not an option...id be there all week!!

That's right mate 20 each side back, 13 each side front
 
Mine came from http://www.thettshop.com/exterior.asp?cat=2003&product=702622 and included bolts (I sourced locking bolts seperately but that's up to you as you can buy the kit with McGaurd included).

At first I thought they were expensive but I justified the purchase by telling myself:

- They're quality items which don't rust (you can see them through the rims)
- They're light, ensuring you don't add too much un-sprung weight
- They'll hold their value, should you come to re-sell them seperately
- They make the S3 look significantly better and reduce (but not remove) body-roll, i've certainly noticed this
- This package comes with everything you need to fit them with little hassle

As they say 'you pays your money, you takes your choice'.
 
Hoggy any pics? if not how much further out does it seem bearing in mind everyone tends to go 10mm each side.....

Funky, I am of the same opinion about a lot of things, however i do keep on top of cleaning my car (almost constant), Im also concious of overpriced, so will not pay for something that is over engineered if it is not required.
 
I thought the same originally.

I think the view of them being over priced is a matter of opinion. If you're willing to invest the time and energy in finding some equivalent light alloy, hubcentric spacers, in the correct width which won't rust, together with sourcing the correct length and seat type bolts from another supplier then fair enough. I'm too busy to do that therefore I have a point, click, purchase approach to some things ;)
 
Been thinking about getting these for ages but can't bite the bullet!

On the pics above is that just the rears you have? 15mm?

I think the fronts look ok but the rears need sorting.

As for handling, i had 10mm front spacers on the M3 and it definately gave better steering and slightly more grip due to the extra track...Does this apply to the S3?
 
yeah im kind of thinking 20mm each side cos the pics above dont give enough difference to warrant the cash
 
I think the pic makes the rears look far better, but the fronts don't look any different to mine which is why i asked.

I agree though, but i can't warrant the cost unless there is more to it than just cosmetics. Like i said, on my previous car it helped just with fronts, but it was opposite to an S3. On an M3, the fronts look weedy and rears look macho....On the S3 its rears that are weedy, but would spacers just on the rears actually improve anything, i doubt it?
 
Yep, well i'll spend that money on something that gives a difference then...Like a 5 ply TIP!!! :)
