Hi guys :) I get a question how much will a garage charge me to change my S4 Springs ? I am asking this because I just took the car to my mech'ic and he told me it would cost me £240 to change the springs :( is this the right price

My garage told me exactly the same thing today, but not the same price.

Cant remember the exact price though... Sounds like a common fault. My rears have snapped, apparently

I'd say the rear springs are 2hours work, tops, maybe 3 if your having plenty of cups of coffee, so it sounds pretty steep to me.

If that price is for ALL the springs, then its perhaps not so bad, as the front end can be a complete ba*tard due to that top pinch bolt.

^^ what he said. The rear springs are easier on the quattro than a 2wd IMO. Very common for them to snap, mine had 2 snapped springs on it, will be changing the whole lot when I get my hands on the spring compressors( thanks Aragorn)

Hi mate, where abouts are you in London ? I would change them for you for 80 quid .You might wanna throw 2 new shocks while at it...as they get dammaged when the spring breaks and the susp. rests on bumpstops. Regards, Chris-07789912128.

You don't have to undo the pinch bolt if you are just replacing springs on an S4. You
can just drop the strut out by undoing the two 13mm nuts which hold the strut to
the camber plate. It takes a bit of wiggling but it is possible. I'd only touch the pinch bolt
if I was doing the upper control arms. 240 for all four is not bad actually as it's about
4 hours work if you have your **** together.

if i had to pay someone to change the springs on a car for me id feel veyr grundged paying £240 if i wasnt changing the dampers too. may as well do it properly

Cool Man I will Call you :)

Just a heads up, they springs are for a FWD car, so wont fit an S4.

it was just a thought arogorn, i dont know what they fit, it was you who advised me on them for mine{top man} but due to being for the v6 i thought i would leave them, but good bargain for one of the members im sure.

I think £240 is quite expensive as i've got my 1.8 avant in garage just now changing cleaning the oil pick up pipe and checking the pump too and they aer only £35 an hour which i thought was reasonable but then again if the garage is in or around a busy city there rates would be higher i guess. Is that your first quote if so i'd do plenty of ringing around and try and play them off each other to maybe get the price down. Anyway goodluck. :icon_thumright:

We don't really know what has been quoted. I still think 240 for changing all four
springs is a good rate. It can be a total ******* if bolts are seized etc.
