Reputable REVO dealers in the north?

Hello all

Some of you may remember me, i still have my 07 S3, but have just ordered an Ibis white S3 sportback - delivery mid december hopefully but i rekon it will be jan, anyway i was wondering if anyone can recommend a good REVO dealer in the north? and when i say north i mean anywhere around yorkshire, lancashire, midlands etc.

I could just go to the Daventry HQ but it is quite a trip from leeds, i have read a few good things on here about Votex, im just after good customer and after sales service, a few REVO dealers in the past that i have called didnt seem to know what they were on about.

Im currently running the GIAC software, but it seems REVO's reputation has soared from what i have read, and quite like the sound of it being a more aggressive map than GIAC

Anyway, any help would be appreciated! good to be back

I used him for my S3 and previous Golfs, as did a couple of mates, and brother, and nother AS member (Auldreekie).

Top guy, works out of a lock up on an Industrial estate so no fancy reception area, free coffee or even RR.

Alan will give you honest advice and is a real petrol head himself, and has been tuning VAGs for years.

But more importantly he will make your car go faster.:yes:

(just cross your fingers you clutch and flywheel is better than mine!)

Thanks for the reply Paul,

Im gonna fit a high pressure fuel pump before the map with a view of adding more mods and eventually stage 2, i will look into this place, i juust want to be assured that the after sales service is good in case anything goes wrong.

How do you find the REVO map? can you compare it to any others you have had in the past?
 
Votex in Congleton are great or ADS in Preston are also good.

give mark hardy(automark) 01642 714200 a ring in stokesley he is awesome he did my s4 and has an excellent reputation and works all over the world.there are loads of posts where i've commented about him cos he really is a good tuner proper custom remaps i can promise you will not be dissapointed

I agree with marsh if you want a custom job hes the man.
 
I can only speak from personal experience.
Which has been very good.
As has Auldreekie`s and 3 others mates of mine.
Alan only does the generic plug and play REVO remaps, so if thats what your after I still reckon hes worth a chat.
Cant comment on custom mapping in fact Im pretty sure he doesnt do it.

I (and many satisfied others) who have used Allan with no issues whatsoever, FOC aftercare and advice, no BS that you need this or that, a place to drop by and chat with other petrol heads - can talk from experience.

Well im thinking Votex seems the best choice at the moment, im gonna eventually go for the stage 2 map, do they know all about how that works and what mods are needed?

Also, i imagine this has been discussed before but whats the general consensus on the right amount of mileage to map a brand new S3 ? Straight after the running in period?

Mate, if you are down that way you would be well advised to speak to Steve Jnr at Stattler in Sheff for the HPFP. They hold the Autotech internals and their pricing and quality of work is good. Spin140 directed me that way and I was very happy with the service I got. The do the GIAC mapping to if you decide on that option.

Do you have the HPFP ?

So much for " I will just get the remap and leave it at that...:)"

Itching for more bhp myself but the recent DMF/clutch problem has made me reconsider....:unsure:

Thanks mate, it was actually me that directed Spin140 to stattler, steve is best mates with one of my customers in sheffield, im running GIAC software from them at the moment but fancy a change to REVO, i will go down to stattler for the fuel pump i just hope he doesnt get offended that im not opting for GIAC again, also can steve get milltek TBE at decent prices and fit them?

Im in Leeds mate, but would travel up there if there is a good dealer, to clear up any confusion by the way i used to be on the forum quite alot about a year ago, i have got a red 07 S3 with the GIAC Hammer map - although i have now read this is dubbed the toffee hammer map lol, just ordered a new S3 sportback and gonna mod it up a bit more than my current one, this forum is priceless for advice so thats why im back

Aaah, OK.
Leeds isnt too far from the Teeside tuners already mentioned then.

Once you find some one you are happy with then its worth the run out (within reason)
Im 45 miles or so from the guy I use in Darlington but still make the trip because of the service I get.

How does the Stage 1 GIAC and REVO compare back to back?

I have never drove a REVO'd car before let alone a REVO'd S3, im just going by reviews and testimonials, the GIAC map is nice lots more power but quite smooth, the REVO map seems to be more "aggressive" from what i have read althought Spin140 tells me there is not much in it as he has tried and tested both, think im gonna get a milltek tbe and hpfp first then decide on where to go for the stage 1 REVO, stage 2 and an induction kit will probably follow shortly after.

How many miles did everyone leave it before they put their maps on ? i simply can remember how many i left prob 2k
 
Not tried GIAC but REVO delivers a good kick in back, which is exectly what I wanted and probably makes the car feel quicker than it actually is.

I like the `old skool` turbo rush. something Ive been missing since my Reno 5 Turbo(s) many moons ago...
Im sure you wont be disappointed.

Like the tuning route your going, same route as I was considering before my recent clutch slip probs. (not to labour the point:)...can you tell Im sore about it?)

Thanks for the replies, yeah the kick in the back from the turbo is what im after too so REVO seems like the right choice, does the select plus work on the stage 2 map too?

Im gonna see how long the journey from leeds to daventry will be on my tom tom and that will help me decide where to go

1. I know its a question that gets asked alot but if i were to mod the car to REVO stage 2 with Milltek TBE, Induction kit, and HPFP, how will the dealers react? should i take off the induction kit every time it goes in ?

2. I average 30k miles a year, will all these high performance mods hold up to that amount of driving if im sensible obviously ?

3. Is the REVO map completley undetectable with the select plus?

Stage 2+ is the ultimate map written specifically (and only) for cars with CAI, TBE and HPFP. Search my "Autotech + Revo2+Sachs Clutch=WTF" for my review of Revo's Stage 2+ if interested further.
Nothing is 100% undetectable - but many dealers won't try to detect a remap in my experience. They aren't always interested.
I've had Stage 2+ for 12,000 miles and several trackdays including trips to the Nurburgring - not a single problem. It's perfectly safe if you respect your car and service it well (i.e. avoid the dealers and go to an independent expert).

Hey, yeah i have had a look at the map of dealers, but before i went for GIAC last year i rang maybe 3 dealers in the yorkshire area and each one really didnt seem to know what they were talking about and sounded really unprofessional, one of them even started having an argument with a staff member or customer whilst i was on the phone and it was f*****g this and f*****g that - then proceeded to come back to the phone and ask why i was calling, so they all put me off REVO, so i guess that why im trying to find the most professional dealer or even considering Daventry

I had a similar experience.
Spoke to an agent 10 miles away and he spoke complete ********.

His crack would have sounded good to a complete novice but if you know the basics then BS is easy to spot.

I think because these generic maps are so easy to install, any back Street tyre fitter/breaker/MOT station can masqerade a ` REVO tuner`.
Anyway, I ended back at Fishburns in Darlo and s a 90mile round trip.
Stick to those you trust.

I too have also used Alans services.

Nearly two years ago I purchased a car that he had advertised in Autotrader as a Cat C that had in his words 'light front end damage' but had been 'properly repaired'. So like an idiot in a rush who knows nothing about cars I went and looked at it in the rain and ended up buying a complete deathtrap. Everything on it was shagged, and I mean literally everything, a complete pup. I've two uncles both with 20+ years in the motor trade (bodywork and mechanical) who were gobsmacked that I'd been stupid enough to buy a car like that. (I asked one of my uncles to come with me but he wasnt able to do it until a few days later and I had just sold my GTI/starting a new job the next day dam isnt hindsight a bitch)

In the end I sold it to someone (via Ebay) that wanted to do it up, I was completely honest with the guy with everything that wasnt right with the car (I'd spent maybe £600+ already on it) but he did up cars for a living and found even more stuff that was wrong, one of the A pillars was just horrific under the plastic interior covering and the guy himself asked me to look him in the eye and tell him it wasnt two cars welded together (It had had a new roof and the chassis on the drivers side was bent to such an extent that there was a 1cm gap between the driver and rear passenger door), honestly thats how bad it was. I lost £4k on it in the end and was 50/50 about torching it myself but thought f*ck it and took it on the chin. A couple of weeks later the guy that bought it off me emailed me and told me a few more things he had found wrong with it and advised me I'd be well within my rights to take legal action. The car itself still pops up on Ebay now and again.

Alan might know what hes doing with Revo but I wouldnt recommend him or buy a car off him.

Mods: If you wish to delete this post I can understand that but Im just sharing my experience of Mr Fishburn/mk4golfcentre.
 
With the greatest respect, i dont want anyone feeling that they have to come on to talk about this Allan guy, whether he is dodgy or not doesnt matter to me as i have narrowed the dealers down to a few and he is not one of them, to be fair im the sort of person that prefers the fancy reception areas and cups of coffee etc.

My last tuning experience was with GIAC at stattler at sheffield and thats the kind of level of customer service i want / expect, im probably gonna use them for any hardware purchases and installations. By the way what induction kits are people using ? or what has the best reputation ?

i got told off for voicing mine and other peoples opinion regarding "the tuner formerly know as" but like i also said his conversion work and modifying work cant be faulted i'm not after putting him out of work...my info, good and bad came from very very reliable vw/audi people and tuners in the northeast and i thought that was the point of a public forum to discuss matters in a suitable and gramatically correct un-offensive manner which i thought i had. untill VOORHEES the revo nazi edited my post...
 
there is a lad called john on a local forum i use who's just set up doing custom remaps in yarm(northeast) called big fish tuning. he's a rally team engineer by day and a custom remapper by night lol anyway he's doing an offer at the moment i think for £250 all in
 
Hi Johnnyb;

Everyone is spot on in terms of your local dealers to go to! But the one thing you'll want to take into consideration is how far you may want to go with the car? Are you going to be happy with stage1 and 300BHP or do you want more?

If you want more it will be worth your while chatting to the guys at ADS, Votex and the golf centre and see what they can offer you in terms of hardware and availability.

It's all relative; i know the guys at all said dealers, they're all really good guys and they all know there stuff! This is what they do for a living and if they weren't good at it they wouldn't have repeat customers who recommend them on forums!

Hey Carl, to answer your question - yes i do want to go further than stage 1, as i stated before im gonna add a few hardware items before getting the map (HPFP, Milltek TBE), is it ok to do that? then when i can afford it, go for the stage 2 map and fit an induction kit, also im gonna purchase the select plus with the initial stage 1 map as this is obviously essential.

I checked the distance from where i actually live in wakefield to the HQ in Daventry and its only 2 hours away, so i think i may just go straight there as i suppose they will give the best advice, just another question - will REVO be able to load the map there and then (my initial visit) or will they have to get a code off my ECU and send it away or anything? the reason i ask is that when i had it mapped by GIAC at stattler i was expecting to get it done that day but he had to send off a code and it took a few weeks, im guessing this might be that GIAC is based in America??

Yea any authorised revo dealer will have software for your vehicle to hand! :)
