Led Headlights on pre facelift?

Back with some news, a friend of mine bought the head lights that Diggz was mentioning about, please note that my mate's car is a LHD as mine, now the leds don't seem to be more powerful then mines, the main difference between is that the ones from SONAR are better build than the no-name from ebay ( the ones that Diggz mentioned about).
In conclusion the quaility of the lighting provided by the after market ones is superior than the lighting produced by the OEM mirror headlights.

Cheers,
ANdi

Yea some pictures would be very helpful. Some at day/dusk/night.

In other words, bumpety bump!

I have to say I reckon that these light don't seem to be worth it.

My Dad has fitted a strip of LEDs to his headlights. They look great pretty close up and they're bright at night but the other day he was behind me and I could hardly see them. It can only have been about 10 metres.

Saw a Landrover today with a bigger version and I could only just make them out too.

Compared to the OEM ones they're very dim. I remember the first time I saw an A5 with them. It was in my rear view mirror, during the day and the A5 was over a mile behind me. Now THAT's bright!

Those OEM's are truly bright arnt they! Everytime i see them in my rear view I know immediatley that they are real.

But, wether diggz'z lights are the best reproduction or not, i'd imagine they are superior to led strips

I'm sure they are yeah. They look good on the pictures and they look OEM too. They're just not bright enough during the day to be worth it I reckon.

First off, don't buy these headlamps!

So my friend Tony helped me convert these LHD's to RHDs. The best way to describe this process was fiddly like a b*tch.

Got to thank SEM for the info! We drew round the cutoff shield and made a template. Afterward we cut the template out of a piece of alu and flipped and welded it onto the origional shield. We ensured the
----\ was exactly where the
/----- was. So hopefully, that means we have a perfect RHD swap.

Ok still some niggles:

1. lights are WAY too high so gotta adjust the height with the switches tomorrow

2. Lights seem to be aiming correctly and i drove for hours and no one flashed me. - Good sign!

3. Of course, the beams must be tested at a garage to see if they really are RHD...

4. The lamps are throwing errors on my dash. Namely: "LEFT HAND FULL BEAM" & "RIGHT HAND FULL BEAM"

- I'm guessing this problem can be rectified with VAG-COM. Basically I need the car to ignore and headlamp errors as everytime I get this error message, there is no problem with the lights!

I'll keep you posted on any new problems. Gotta love em.

great job and the healghts look very nice, from where did you buy them? Did you hae any prolems with the fting?

I assume you had no errors before doing the mod? There's no reason why just adjusting that plate should do anything to the main beams. And the fact that it's on both sides is weird!

Do the main beams actually light?

Have to say, for aftermarket lamps they look pretty good. Could maybe do with some more LED's and swapping the orange indicator bulb for a silver/chrome one.

What exactly did you weld the cutoff shield to though? They are bi-xenon type lamps hence the reason for the black solenoid, that should move another plate up and down when you fire up the main beam on.

Yea they do. And no, no errors before the mod. Not entirely sure whats going on there...

Whats the black solenoid?

I welded the template to the origional cutoff shield. Or, the little metal shield that moves. When its down, the beam is full. When its up, its dipped.

Ebay. The dude whos old it to me lied tho. He said they were RHD. They was not. So yes, they was a pain in the **** to fit! Still not sure they are perfectly RHD, but i'm inclined to use them anyway...

Of course the main problem is the errors they keep throwing up...

Hey there folk, i am new to this, just logged on, i have an A3 sportback 08' model, with Xenon lights, but i love the new lights, do you think that i could fit these on. And where on E-bay do i fiond these. You boys and girls in the UK and Europe are lucky man. Here in SA (South Africa) we are straved for great accessories

Hi there. Those lights i fitted are for left hand drive countries only. SO if that applies to you, your in luck! If not... you've got a bit of a job on your hands...

Not only that but the lights make error messages pop up in your dashboard. I'm not sure if i got a dodgy pair or if its all of them.

Do the Lights come on like they suppose too Like the Real DRL ? E.g. When you just start the car? You don't have to swicth the Side light on do you? That would be terrible....defeats the whole purpose of DRL.

Unfortunately the led's only come on when you switch to sidelights. I'm not too bothered by that, but then i guess those are some of the prices you pay for aftermarket products. (wondering if they can be re-programmed with VAG...)

I'm talking about the LHD Lights To RHD ......I'm wondering if he has completed it how how he did it.

He does not state it was finished and he did'nt say it worked. The only thing it states is how he was going to try and do it. The only person that can say this is himself.

That info is in THIS thread!

How did he do that then? and is it complete?

Sorry digzzz been busy. Mostly with disgruntled ebay members and with the car.

The Lights were checked at the garage that did the respray with a headlight beam thingymajig. The machine told us that the headlamps were successfully converted from LHD to RHD.

However, the beam was little small, eg it should be like this:

\
\_______

its like this:

\________

So yes, it is RHD but if it passes the MOT is another story. of course, if it fails, i'll just swap the aftermarket's with my OEM's. (For the MOT:sly:)

HOW i did it is indeed explained above. (if u want more detail just ask) The only problem with the lights now are the error messages that only pop up when full beam is engaged.

The car on the other hand is almost complete.

If you want to change them low light LED'S in them lights you bought. There is a form on Audizine where fly300kts mods audi front lights and puts the best LED’s lights into the headlights for a fee. You can either send the lights to him and he would fit it....or you could get him to send the LED’S over and then you could install yourself.....check he’s forms out:

So do you think that these would work with my factory xenon adaptive lights?
http://www.d-edition.de/shop/KFZ-Au...di-A3-8P-Schwarz-m-LED-Standlicht::84375.html

Would you like to elaborate your comment a bit, because the adaptives have 2 motors built into each headlight for NESW directions, so if you mean will the linked headlights work with the current setup & keep bixenon adaptive working, highly unlikely given adaptive bixenons have a direct canbus connection & you'll get errors all the time & loose the directional workings of the headlights as they're not oem & wont talk to the car network/sensors.

Personally they're one of the best mods I did to my car, oem bixenon adaptives, love them.

But he is based in florida ..

It Don't matter....I've already asked him about it ...and anybody can send there lights via UPS or he can send you his Kit.

I like the FSI badge in the grill! Any more photos of the front end Rich?

Yea man, theyre in the pictures section. Some better ones to come...

I'd love to do that... there is a bi-zenon version of my aftermarket headlamp but i did not buy them. Though i figured the only difference between the zenon headlamp and the normal headlamp was the zenon bulb and HID kit within them?

I could be wrong. The OEM bi-znons do look very good, mind

The lens on my aftermarkets are so hard to get off i literally can;t see how i'd even remove them! That sticky black glue stuff is solid...

Dont mean to sound cheeky but any way you could upload them on your build thread mate? For some strange reason i cant view the photo section every time i try to it closes down the window or my pc freezes:uhm:

If you can't do it then...I would suggest to send them to him directly.

Forgot to say use a heat gun to warm up the glue and then pull them a part.

Do you know how much its costing to have them posted over to the usa and then back to the uk. And the fee of him fitting the new LED and the price of these bright LED?
