300 bhp from a standard engine??

After reading Evo mag on their project to turn a 225 TT into a mini Veyron they reckon they can get 300bhp out of it 'without opening the engine'.

Is this really feasible from a 210 or 225 engine without a BT upgrade and strengthen parts??

I think they mean using "bolt on goodies "
An uprated turbo and a sports exhaust with other normal external mods could show 300.
The internals are said to be fine for 330ish bhp.
More than that... its hit and miss.

Easily. 3"DP, cat and exhaust, hybrid ko4, uprated pipework, high flow intake and exhaust manifold, well over 300bhp an lb/ft.

I'm supprised given your obvious exposure to serious modding (revo, FMIC, etc etc) that you don't know what a hybrid turbo is.

Its basically a K04 unit thats been modified to flow better and give more power with a decent map. alot cheaper than BT and give a power delivery more like standard. BT's are big power later on!

I think they'll have no problems getting 300bhp if they're prepared to throw money at it. Nice to be able to!!

I had read about airflow modifications to the turbo but hadn't made the connection with the terminology.

I'm not really up on remaps (mine was done before I got it) and dont really understand why you would need to re-remap an engine for adding hard wear.

why wouldn't one remap do for most add ons.

Normally stage 2 remaps take into account extra bolt on goodies (exhaust, hybrid turbo etc) and map the engine to get the best out of these. A standard stage 1 map is generic.

Star are good tuners so am sure theres a reason behind this,probably they have more than enough work on serious mods.

Ive spent some time and money on getting the car setup correctly and I now want to start tinkering with power.

what are the best/cheapest ways to get noticeable gains without going to stage 2 (money is now low so getting expensive things done will have to wait)

I change it back to factory now and then, but it does seem really slow lol so have to change it back to setting 9

From reading threads over the years, the SPS device is only used once to set aggressive settings, and left at that. There's very few people that have the time to swop the settings regularly to suit driving conditions/needs to warrant owning one in my opinion. Find someone who has one and borrow it for a few hours.
