Can anyone recommend a good VW forum? It looks very much like next month is the last month with my trusty A3 :bye:

New Golf GTi next :yahoo:

TIA

as above, edition 38, performance vw, vw-audi forum

Thanks gentlemen

@unkle: It's a Deutschland car. Wheel on the wrong side and everything  I've had it a year now and although it's a very good car indeed I just haven't 'bonded' with it. I think it's the diesel thing, very sensible and all that but I just can't get fired up about driving it :lazy:

Ah okay, Im thinking about going back to Audi and yours had roughly what I was looking for, seen a few mk6 GTI's, your a very lucky ******... :)

I'm excited :) I wanted a BMW but for my budget I can have a gay one, or a GTi with a reasonable spec to my taste. I say no to a gay 320i in bum-basic spec, and yes to a nice 5-door grey GTi. No Xenons (€1300-joke, I'll eat more carrots) and no navigation (Mr Thomas Tom can do a better job for a 6th of the price) but I'm really looking forward to some revs, and joy-cornering. Haven't had a quick VW for some years and never a new one, so I'll say it again, ich bin excited!

Nice choice!
The Mk6 is a fantastic car...class leading interior AND chassis...and from a VW!
Don't worry, despite plenty of people telling you it's the poor relation to the A3, you and I both know currently it's the better car!
The interior in better in my view, and the chassis in a different league.

Agree on the Sat Nav too...
I don't like carrots too much, so I'd maybe have gone for Xenons.

Any other options?
ACC?

You got it yet? Or got a build week?
I envy the choice of colours you get in mainland Europe.

As fora GTI specific forum with plenty of Mk6 content, try Golf GTI Forum:

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php

A lot of it is fairly generic and typical Forum stuff, but the Mk6 section has some good info and good technical people. Well worth a look. Maybe see you on there? :whistle2:

Once again...good choice. I envy you...

Cheers Ess! I think it's a good choice - i.e my dad likes it and my missus thinks I'm having some sort of midlife boyracer crisis (I'm 31) :whip:

I've had a little drive of one and the DSG seems to work so much nicer than in my A3 - I prefer the interior as well, those check seats make me :yahoo:

I live about 100 miles from the Nurburgring and I've never felt the urge to hack the A3 around there...I think this will change soon enough. I'm not slating the Audi, it's just not for me. And it's far from the best car in the world, contrary to popular opinion (on the 8P forum).

Order will be placed at the end of the month - My old man has bought about 8 cars from the local VW dealer so I'm taking him with me to get a good deal  going to the motorshow in Frankfurt first just in case I've missed something tasty on the market...but I'm 99% sold on the Golf.

I want a fairly simple spec, because I'm a simple animal. Dark grey metallic, 18" Detroit wheels, 2 extra doors (Mr. Practical in action), Winter Pack, basic stereo upgrade, DSG, and that's about it.

Going to check that GTi forum now

P.S don't be envious - I haven't had a 911 yet (yet!!)

I don't get on with front-wheel drive really. Just feels 'wrong', especially in something performance-oriented. 10 years of driving from the other end has spoilt me

The other thing is, that ****** DSG. How can something so clever, be so stupid at the same time? :whip:

So, drawing board. I need RWD and a smooth autobox please. On my budget, not easy, unless it's an ugly BMW (I can live with ugly) or some sort of basic Benz (no thanks, I'm not a taxi driver)

Sigh! Maybe I can sell some organs and get a Cayman

Oh, I can live with that...

But DSG just annoyed me to the point of hatred!
I detested it. Awful.

With PDK?
It's just DSG but with less logical paddles!

****** automated manuals

I know I'm missing out on some great cars with my FWD prejudice, but I can't help it. Any sort of enthusiasm round a corner and my brain automatically goes "erk, this is wrong" and then the enjoyment is out of the window.

The only time I've got on with it is in low-powered, lightweight cars. I loved my AX GT (call me a gay if you want ).

I am not getting a Panda 100hp. Even though it may be the antidote to my current car headache :ermm:
