Second post here - thanks for the feedback on the first, much appreciated.

So, I couldn't find an S-Line with all the options I want and therefore I bought a Sport and thought i'd upgrade it a bit. The first thing to tackle was the roof spoiler - nice and easy i thought...

Bought a replica S-Line spoiler from ebay. It arrived and didn't look much like the real deal, so I sold it on ebay and got the same money for it, so no harm done. Next i contacted my local Audi dealer, sent them photos of the S-Line spoiler just to make sure there was no confusion and they ordered it in for me. When it arrived I was a bit sceptical because the brake light wasn't built in. Stupidly I took it to my local bodyshop, had it sprayed and fitted and only then paid a good amount of attention to it....

Audi had accidentally supplied what they call an 'accessory' spoiler, which sticks onto the standard car's existing roof piece. It doesn't look terrible but it does look like a fairly cheap add on when you take a second glance at it.

Soooo...i straighten it out with Audi and they have the real S-Line spoiler waiting for me now. Only problem is they say the tailgate needs drilling because the sport tailgate doesn't have the holes that the S-Line has. THey won't do the fitting unless the can disassemble an S-Line to look at it. I'm a bit worried about getting my local bodyshop to do it because I seriously doubt they've done this job before.

Does anyone know how to fit a genuine S-Line roof spoiler to a Sport and if so please can they reply with instructions that i can give to the bodyshop?

Cheers,
Jimbo

The original Audi one will have been the votex one. This bonds straight onto the tailgate. The S-line one has slightly rounded edges & gets bolted through holes onn the tailgate. A bought the latter as i has to buy a new tailgate too so i bought one with holes. There has been other members here who have bought the sline one and cut the mouting tubes off and bonded the whole spoiler on as per the votex one instead of drilling holes in the roof.

I cut off the mounting bolts and bonded the spoiler on like Khufu has described and have had no problems with it. You will have to sand down the part where the mounting bolts are fitted to get it to fit snugly

Nice one guys - that sounds much less hassle than drilling it in.

djmcronin - is yours a sport? Like the wheels. Have you got any bigger photos of your car?

Hi,
I am in the same boat as you, apart from I have an s-line (pre 56 bodykit) and want to fit the s-line and not the vortex to my tailgate.

I believe you can, from this thread, cut the two lugs off and bond direct to the tailgate.
I think the brake light just shines through a gap so no alts needed there.

BTW, what are you paying for the spraying and fitting as I am going to do this soon.
I am in South Manchester.

The thread also has all the part numbers on think its 8P386094 GRU.

Please let me know how you get on.

I got myself an S-line one , no need to drill holes mate, just cut the legs and use the specified glue to keep it together

Here is mine, after the install. Left the tapes there for 3-4 days just to be sure.
5 months later everything seems ok!

If you got a 3door there should be a little cut for the 3rd brake light, otherwise for the Sportback you have to change the light too!

I did the same. Bought one on ebay, dremeled the legs off & just stuck on with sikaflex with a few weights on it overnight. Dried overnight & has been fine since. Sticks like sh*t to a blanket ;)

Spoiler was easy to fit, I removed the bolts and I got it painted at a local shop and got Audi's bonding kit and fitted it myself and left for 24hrs with some weights on a blanket on the spoiler. Wheels are replica RS6, 18"s.

I'll be up for that, Stoke Audi was good value last time for other items
- Part No 8P386094 GRU I think.

Alright guys. I bought an s-line spoiler for my pre 56 s-line sportback so im in a similar situation as A Rowley. I was too stuck with whether to drill holes but it seems i can cut the arms of and stick it one! Brilliant! ... there is only one question ... what happens with the brakelight? because at the moment to brakelight is on the boot spoiler that has been built into the boot. How am i meant to re - wire the brakelight .... or am i not meant to do that? i read somewhere that someone said it SHINES thought .... ????

You have to remove your current brakelight and connect the new one that is built in the new spoiler
Whoever said it shines through is just saying b****t !!!
This doesn`t work

The S-line spoiler lets the brake light shine through doesn't it ? I thought it was the Vortex one which has the extra light ?

My S-line has a big hole & uses the existing brake light & so does my neighbours who I looked at before fitting.

im sure that if you ahve a spoiler with no additional brakelight then you have the votex spoiler which is basically an add on spoiler.
So in order for me top attach the s-line spoiler im going to have to remove my brakelight and place it on the s-line spoiler. Does anyone one how to do this and diconnect the original brakelight??

Guys the original S-line spoiler has a gap for the brake light only for the 3dr version.

For the Sportback it needs a new brake light which goes into the new spoiler

I have no idea if you got a 3dr or a Sportback btw :)

This is how mine looks like.
When i purchased the spoiler the light was together in the auction.

Otherwise you have to buy it from the stealers, not cheap though!

Sooo, for a 3 door sport. To fit the genuine S-Line spoiler, does it stick onto the existing tailgate panel (the one with the brake light in it) or does this need to be removed and the new spoiler stuck directly onto the tailgate?

Hi,
Anyone know if the part number I posted is correct for a sportback and includes the brake light part.
I assume it is quite tricky to fit the brake light then bond all the way round with the wire restricting movement, or do you bond first then fit the brake light to the wire you poked through.
If you can get my drfit?

Thats the way mine was, didn't need to touch taillight

right ... i kinda get everyones drift however how am i meant to remove the original brakelight, then wire the new one?

OK - spoiler transformation now complete...finally! I went from Sport to Votex/Vortex and finally to S-Line. Not the cheapest way of doing it but Audi sent me the wrong one and I didn't notice because I'm dumb. I'm loving the S-Line spoiler, the car looks a lot better to my eyes.

The body shop who did the spraying/fitting removed the lugs/spiggots/poles from the S-Line spoiler and bonded it to the standard tailgate. No action required in terms of brake light on the 3-door model. The alternative would be to drill holes in the tailgate and bolt it on but they weren't keen to go down that route in case they mispositioned the holes or water leaks happened.

Don't like to worry you but looks like you might have reversed into a couple of cyclists !

Looks great, but one thing to bear in mind when getting the lugs cut off and the spoiler bonded onto the tailgate, is that if at any time in the future your rear screen needs replacing then the spoiler will need to be removed, and doing that to one that has been bonded on 99% of the time means a ruined spoiler and a new one required.

I have had the Votex one fitted, which requires no removal of the brake light and no lugs to cut off.

I agree it makes all the difference plus the S line was another 50 squid

I have votex too, mines an early s-line so the spoiler was a dealer fit extra on mine. Votex is a VAG brand but are made under license by Austrian bodykit designer MS design........ all my votex parts have their name on them so if you see any MS design ones for sale, it will be identical! (just the aftermarket version)

Thats a risk that most people would be prepared to take I'm guessing, it's very rare that people need to replace rear screens. Still it's a good point, would make for an expensive rear screen change if it did happen.

I could be totally wrong , but compared to my old s-line 3 door and aristides
black one, it looks a bit high and the sides look just slightly out of line ( small gap ) ,as said i could be totally wrong.

Just got a price from my audi dealer for a spoiler for the 3 door, £192 + vat? Is this right?

Is it the Vortex spoiler or the s-line one? You got to clear this up first

I gues 192 unpainted right? Seems kinda steep

I think I'm gonna have to buy a ****** spoiler now! Pengjn that looks well. Loving the hybrid Marin and also the Carbon road bike, Cannondale? Looks it.

Bonding spoilers on is A OK in my opinion, done it on a few cars and never had any issues at all.

£192 is prob about right you know. Sure ebay may have something on there Votex ones are nice imo. Don't know if it's been mentioned but if anyone finds a cheap one and is tempted just make sure it aint fibreglass, it'll be a waste of time, need proper ABS.

Anyone got a decent pic of Votex to put up? I'm thinking of Votex front lip and rear spoiler.

This one looks just wrong, i guess that`s the Vortex? Or is it just badly positioned?

Go for the s-line one, you just cant go wrong with this option

I asked for the standard S3 spoiler and £192 + vat was there price, thats it coming primed

Got no part number atm, will search and post later. Even though my old brake light doesn`t show up in ETKA

You also dont need extra wiring, you just have to remove the old brake light and connect the loom to the new one

The S-line / S3 spoiler is the same - its also more expensive than the votex one as I noticed when I bought mine.

Should be getting mine this week from ayr audi :) Khufu where you from?

Kilwinning. I take it you know the s-line/S3 one has lugs on it that go through holes in the tailgate where the votex one doesn't. You will have to cut the lugs off.
