Just ordered some Osram Night Breaker bulbs and am having doubts I've purchased the right ones.

Most websites list them as the same for all A4's after 2001 but some say H4 dipped beam and some say H7.

I ordered a pair of each as this site said H4's for dipped and H7 for main beam but I'm now wondering if I should have got 2 sets of H7 after looking at other sites.

I also noticed that they state them as Xenon but gather they are an upgrade for the standard headlights and are just a bulb swap with no additional work required to wiring etc...

Can anyone advise?

Powerbulbs list H7 for both dipped and main beams, thats certainly how it is on the B6.

H7 for both,

the H4 is a dual filamant bulb, so it does dip and main beam in one, this isnt used much on new cars except on cheaper models as you get better peformance from a H7 and with 2 lamps the designer can have more room to play with the front end of the car etc.

also they are a upgrade bulb, the halogen gas is replaced with a xenon mix to alter how the halogen cycle works and effects the filament allowing them to run the filament hotter and there fore more light.

(knowing about bulbs is part of my job...)

Great. My B7 has oem xenons fitted and I'm looking to match in the DRLs and sidelight bulbs (DRLs are non-led type).

Also looking to match in the fog lights with the overall set-up.

Can you suggest what I need and where to source from please?

Thanks

Thanks for the replies, I looked in the manual and it says H7 for both (should have checked in there first!) I've emailed the place I ordered from so hopefully they'll be able to amend it to 2 x H7 before despatch.

M7R - Do you know if changing these bulbs will effect anything else if they are running hotter i.e. wiring and headlamp lenses?

Thanks,

Stu

if they are proper E marked bulbs from one of the big boys, ie Osram, Philips or Bosch etc then they will be perfectly fine as they should have been tested to Reg 37, for european type approval,

but if they are deep blue ones from a non descipt brand then they "should" be ok, but I have known ones that have run hotter due to pulling too many amps, plus the filament can be in the wrong position meaning the beam patterns messed up,

if you want them to be close to your HIDs look at the philips vision blue bulbs, they arent actually blue but a kind of white colour when on, with out reducing the light out put (the deep blue coatings will also reduce the light out put from the bulb)

regulation 37 for european approval.... i bet your fun at party's.
only kidding mate i'm the same with regulations at the moment training to be a health+safety advisor of all things....boooo

:p

My job is Type Approval, im one of the engineers who over sees the testing and issues the approvals for the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA as we are known) who are the UK approval authority,

im a bit of a nerd on some subjects, mainly; crash, bulbs, brake pads, tow bars and replacement exhausts, but theres about 150 different approvals a car wil need before it can be sold.

the job can seem a bit boring to some folk, but not when you mention the pay (out of all my mates who graduated uni last year with me im on the most dosh..) and the cars you get to drive every so often.

Thanks M7R, I got my order adjusted to the correct H7's and they're Osram so should be fine.

That will be the task for Saturday - assuming they've arrived by then.
