My audi a3 2.0 tdi (8p) has been fitted with apex lowering springs...problem is when i go over/on a speedhump theres a tapping (coils tapping ) sound........is there anything ...like a sleeve or something that i can put on the spring so when the coils tap i dont hear them.......something that will cushion the sound?

Afternoon,

Not that we know of but we've never really had that problem before. It may be best to speak to the company you bought the springs off and see if it's a common thing from APex springs.

Damian @ DPM Performance

How low are they & are they stock shocks?

I've got 30mm eibach pro's & FSD shocks & dont have any of these issues at all & all supplied by DPM.

spring stated 30mm but as mine is the sport model it lowered exactly 23mm all round after a measure up.

stock springs= YES

U mean stock shocks mate, lol

Well I'd say the springs arent particularly thick then as they seem to be rebounding to much huh, I'd get some eibach pro's on there if it isnt to much hassle, no one's complained about them once.

thanks for the correction there nhn. i had eibach on my a4 brilliant they were, apex are a smoother softer ride,i bought these my mate got em fitted to his tt and no issue and my other mate had em on a golf without issues.....saying that they wer both petrol so maybe its because of the diesel heavy front end that make the spring do this:weight_lift2:

Cant see that tbh as its not that heavy mate & wondering if its the shocks worn or top mounts shot as mine were completely screwed when I upgraded so swapped the mounts at same time.

new top mounts fitted last week, shocks are good.. i rang abp motorsport and they said its normal as some springs are like that '' its the charactistics of the spring''

Call manufacturer directly as I do & check with them is best option, personally I'd swap out if the clanging is doing your head out as already admitted eibachs were good.

I had this problem a while ago, turned out to be a plastic cap thingy that was catching as the springs compressed.

It made a loud noise everytime i went over a bump or round a bend etc, very suprising for just a little piece of plastic being caught up.

Might not be your problem but might be worth checkin if theres anything stuck/catching on them.

I cant see it being the plastic shock pole covers tbh if the knocking is distinctly metal, but do check as these can be pain in butt to get back in fully & may have come loose.
