Help! 3.2 FSI quattro or 3.0 TDI quattro

My wife wants a car and she pretty much fell in love with an A4 cabriolet. Plan is to buy 2/3 years old.

We took one out from the dealer at the weekend and she was very happy, but would like an automatic gearbox. I managed to get out of work early today and took both a 3.0 TDI quattro and a 3.2 FSI quattro today (different dealers) and liked them both! So would she. The petrol car is 6 months older and has done 20k less miles, but is 2k more expensive.

Opinions on the two cars please? I'm in a position to buy one tomorrow. Both are fully loaded.

Roughly what should I be expecting from the dealer as a % off the sticker price so I don't get taken for a ride (and how low should I start the haggle)? No trade in, might take out the lowest finance possible to get the two years free servicing deal.

3.0 TDI v6 all the way mate.

I have the 3.0 V6 TDi TDV S-Line Quattro which is the 233bhp standard and not the 205bhp standard, although its not a cab.

I average over 400miles a tank, most i have got is just over 500 miles per £60 tank and thats a mixture hammering it and taking my time.

Cheap tax, cheaper insurance and cheaper to run a TDi.

I paid 16k from an audi dealer for a 56 plate with 38000 miles and fully loaded with 1 owner, came with full leather/electric/memory seats, Auto lights/wipers, Sat Nav, Bluetooth, Phone Prep, Cd Changer, Auto dimming rear view and exterior mirrors, 18" Alloys, pearlescent paintwork, 12 months tax and fully valeted.

16k sounds like a decent price - unfortunately, obviously the cabrio is a bit more. What was the sticker price (how much discount should I be trying for)?

Car was up for £17k, they also threw in that paint protection worth £300.00

Oh and forgott mention the car has the ten speaker BOSE system and rear parking sensors

I drove my mates 3.2 V6 quattro cab last Friday night..this also was with the autobox..sounded absolutely awesome with the roof down, and was extremely nimble and well planted on the road..fuel economy wasnt great, but I was thrashing it a bit tbh..wanted to see the diff between his car and mine in terms of raw power..Im a petrol head as far as cars are concerned, as I drive diesel all day in work...20k less miles is not to be sniffed at..its down to you at the end of the day..are they the same spec, colour etc ?

Petrol cars are great i agree, ive always had fast petrol cars but decided i wanted something with the best of both worlds and thats why i went for the 3.0 diesel.

My car currently does 6.4 seconds 0-60 and has more torque than an aston martin vanquish and i still get 40+ MPG,so why bother with petrol?

At the moment petrol is just to damn expensive, the only annoying thing with diesel is constantly having to change gear but apart from this i think i prefer it.

Looks like I'll be calling up tomorrow and seeing if either of them can cut a deal. How much is extended warranty (over the 1 year standard) worth, if I can get them to throw that in?

I have had a few diesels and I just dont get on with them dont like the way the sound ,the short power band and to be honest never found the MPG to be that great compared to the petrol alternative unless you do !
Sorry Dazmo yours looks lovely and I am sure its quick looking at those figures but to me the noise and driving experince some times out way the out right performance of a car.
Go for the petrol mate the noise with the roof down will be worth the extra running cost all day long !

Yeah i know what you mean mate, you cant beat the sound of a petrol especially when you have the roof down.

Wifes car, so her choice. She decided to go with the diesel because of the lower fuel costs (she's got a diesel already and the Audi is much more refined than the one she has at the moment so engine noise is not a problem for her).

It's very nice. Deposit paid and will pick up at the weekend. I did manage to get them to throw in an extra year's official Audi warranty (2 years total) but they wouldn;t move much on price.
