Main dealers that AREN'T bothered by remaps or mods.

I know that most Audi dealers freak at the very mention of remaps or mods,and mine certainly mentions the mantra of "warranty invalid" at every opportunity,but if anyone has the names of dealers who don't lay an egg,could they let me know!

I can see that posting the names in an open forum might be a problem for the dealers concerned,so maybe a PM might be best.

Alex I don't know if you have been PM'd (obviously ), but I think 110 views and no answers speaks volumes about most people's experiencies on the subject. I certainly know that my local dealer is not a big fan.

My cousin old a3 2.0tdi which is remaped use to go to my local dealer (Cardiff) and they never said any thing. And i know madalex S3 gone into Cardiff and his car running 370bhp and i dont think they are bothered by it being tuned.

I still think its best not to advertise the fact and rely on software with a good degree of transparency, we are fortunate in that modern VAG products have a good gap between services so you can plan to revert the car to OEM for dealership visits.

I have no issue with leaving the full miltek on as I claim it was added for aural pleasure.

Stick with GIAC or Revo and the map will remain undetected to the basic diagnostic tools.

I dont think they care, and would prefer NOT to know.

After all, any warranty work is paid for by AUDI direct and it keeps their Techs busy.

Unless they see a growing trend of catastrophic failures linked to modified cars then IMO I cant see them putting any blanket measures in place to interogate ECUs, check for aftemarket bits etc.

Can you imagine the cost of rolling that out? Training , policing etc....

I would argue they dont even have the expertise to do so anyway.
Particularly on the lower volume cars that they see relatively infrequently.

That said, I wouldnt be too arrogant about it, but Ive had various warranty/service visits over the last 4 years with REVOs cars at both VW and AUDI without any incident or even a mention of remaps etc.
And that inculdes a fairly costly Clutch/DMP change out on a 18k miles Golf.

Cheers guys....as I'd suspected!

My own local dealer is toeing the party line and saying all the usual things,and whilst they won't find the remap,hiding the CAI and DV may be a problem.....but then I needed both to get rid of the problems running Revo Stage 2+ with the stock intake.

Cardiff is,unfortunately,a bit far up the road!

Can you not just flash back to stock and remove the intake before you go ?

I'm not sure what removing the Dump valve entails but again a bit of a fashionable item so you could play the same bought for aural pleasure card.

If its just going in for a service they really won't care but having said that I understand the concerns.

I could....I guess it comes down to the hassle of having it all removed etc etc.

The remap,I've been assured they wouldn't find anyway,but the diverter valve would be a pain to remove and replace....I could always say that the OEM one was crap,which the first version was...

It's a pity that more dealers don't simply do as some seem to do and ignore the mods etc,and simply service the car.....I'll decide what to do before the service is due,but may well end up keeping the car for a few years until the RS3(if it really does appear,and not just at the Frankfurt show) is available at a reasonable price used.
I don't think I really want to cough up the thick end of £40k for a new one,when this car is going quite well.

Still mulling over the idea of the VF RS kit....

I'm not sure if this applies these days but when i have my 20vt jabba'd, it went to the dealer for a service (because there was a special on otherwise dealers a no no) and they updated the software on it (so i was told) and it wiped the map off. This was the old days so i had to go all the way back to jabba to get it reflashed! gits! Jabba charged me £50 to add insult to injury!

yeah said it was an hours labour standard fee! I wasnt happy because i paid £450 for the original job!

My REVO agent has done at least 4 reflashes on the last 2 cars completely FOC.
Reckon it took him 5mins each time.

The difference is that Im happy to go back and spend my money again and recommend him. (Alan Fishburn/MK4 Golf Centre -Darlington).

My friends spoke to the audi dealer who attended Audi's in the park..

They guy from the dealership said they are happy to actually remap the cars they sell, and it doesn't void warranty!

Now I wasn't directly involved in the conversation but he seemed to know what he was on about.. He said the ship the map off to Germany where it's adjusted then put back on the car. Not voiding warranty in anyway!

In strict legal terms, the warranty is voided on the the components that have been modified, along with those components that can be reasonably assumed to associated or impacted by the modified components. IMO a remap invalidates the warranty on the whole drivetrain.

Obviously,this is the view taken by my local dealer,although fitting an exhaust and new tyres seems to be exempt from this.....

Joking aside though,the interpretation is variable amongst dealers,even from what's come up in this thread,and whilst I wouldn't expect my dealer to cough up for a broken engine,I don't really see eye to eye with them over a reamp on a perfectly healthy one.

Theres a name I havent heard for a while, maybe he knows what hes doing with Revo but I certainly wouldnt recommend buying a car off him, caveat emptor...
