Scary letter from DVLA

Hi,

Has anyone ever had the following request from the DLVA? this is the text from the letter;

"Vehicle reg XXXX XXX

A problem has arisen with the records we hold for this vehicle and i would appreciate your help in dealing with it. Would you please answer the question below and return this letter back to me in the enclosed envelope.

Do you still own this vehicle, yes/no."

Now as far as i know the car isn't stolen/written off, and isn't recorded as such, am i being paranoid, i am worried now that they are going to say that the car was stolen years ago and it ain't mine hopefully it is just our countries inept record keeping and nothing to worry about.

Bin it. You have a V5 logbook I presume. If so, bin the letter and ignore it.

If you say yes, you may end up with a load of parking tickets!!!

someone else may have applied for a v5 in a different name or address attempting to clone it perhaps.i would just give them a ring for peace of mind

i heard that some random guy can apply for a v5 for your car and if you dont reply to dvla asking if its yours the other person can claim it dont know if its true or not but i would ring them

I do have the V5, there is a telephone number on the letter which i will be ringing first thing tomorrow morning, hopefully it's just an admin error or something, i was just paranoid that this is the first letter to ascertain who currently owns the car before kindly letting me know it's been stolen in the past and that i have to give it back to the original owner.

I know a woman who has a triumph stag in a lock up,she had some blokes decorate the the building and then two weeks later one of the blokes tried to get the car via DVLA

Dont call the number on the letter, look for a number for the DVLA on the web and then call that. This will gaurantee that you are speeking to the DVLA and not the fraudsters, (if that is what they are).

just to let you all know, i spoke to the dvla, they had only just recieved the sale part of the logbook, and as i have had the car for a while they were just checking i still own it.

weird thing is, although i thought i might lose my car, i wasn't stressed about it, very weird seeing as i am in the process of moving house and am being screwed for every penny by bank/estate agent/solicitors
