Black Edition

A number of dealers around the midlands have 3 door Black Editions in stock, unless you want some special extras I'm sure you could get one quicker, when they cocked my order up I was offered 5 different 3 door BE but I need a SBack to get my daughter & the dogs in.

Maybe worth ringing round, save the money on the service

I did try that first, the dealer looked on the national computer and i am after a 170 TDI with DSG (is yours DSG ?), there was only one in the country, and that one did not have electric lumbar support (which i need as sometimes get back ache without it). Also i am not keen on the piano black inlays, i have spec'd mine to be change to brushed ally. That red looks good though !, really impressed mate. :o.k:

My dealer did say i could go slightly over the service and he was not worried, so maybe if i am going to need to get it done he might split the cost with me if i get him to do it, failing that a good mate of mine is a master tech at my local dealer (i did not buy it from there as the sales team are not great !). Its pretty useful having a mate who is a master tech, saying that though, i have had no problems at all with my current S line TDI 140.

I didn't get the interior light pack which im thinking i may regret, does this mean ill have no interior lights apart from the front and back ceiling lights?

I think you get illuminated vanities and glovebox.

I think you get illuminated vanities and glovebox.

yes, you get those as standard, you don't get footwell lighting, puddle lighting (when the door is open, and something else i think, can't remember, for the price i ticked the box, for the cost of a tank of petrol it was worth having.

so is it worth me asking if i can get that upgrade added on now? or should i just leave it out, as i have seen the LED interior modification and that looks quite pleasant.

don't see any reason not to add it, it would be a pain to add afterwards and expensive, if you can afford it now, then go for it i reckon

i phoned my dealer and they said it was too late to get the option added to the order.. although when they confirmed the options i did go for, they missed out the folding wing mirrors... what do you think will happen? surely if they can add the mirrors to the order which i originally asked for, then they can do the samme for the interior lights?

Hmmmm, i know from experience that once the order goes confirmed at the factory that's it, end of story, no change, I have even spoken to Audi UK in the past to try and see if they could add something late, however the Factory will not take changes after a confirmed date. Either:- a. you will not get the mirrors, b they will add them and they could have added the lighting pack, or c, they have misread the order back to you, and you will get the mirrors but cannot add the LP. Best to ask them, do you have a build week ?

not sure if you're aware but the folding mirrors do not fold in/out automatically when the car is locked/unlocked unfortunately - you must manually turn a knob to fold/unfold the mirrors - so if this is what you were looking for, it may not be all that bad. still, you could kick up a fuss and see what they offer, as at the end of the day you did order them.

Yes, its a good point, i have seen the folding mirrors and was not very impressed, they don't fold very well, i.e., don't go very far in, and more to the point do no fold when you lock the car, as mentioned you need to press a button every time !, hence i left them off my order.

just had an email off my dealer, apparantly the folding headlights cannot be on the car if i have the rain sensor and headbeam assist! but audi wouldnt of told me this if i didnt ennquire about the interior lights package (they would've just kept my 100 quid for an option they knew i couldnt have) here is the attached email.
bare in mind that i ordered the car in mid july and its due build date is the 38th week (mid september)

"A small problem, the combination of both high beam assist and rain and light
sensor pack is not available with electrically folding mirrors as a factory
build, hence why they are not on the order confirmation. Apparently the
Audi system will not allow them to be ordered together but unfortunately
there is no mention of this in the brochure.

Two options, re-order car with which ever option you require the most and
add on interior light pack or leave order as it is and have a refund on the
£100 (minus 10% discount). Please note if re-ordered the car will be
delivered Nov 09.

Have a think and let me know what you want me to do."

I've replied back saying how dissapointed i am, and to see if audi will fit the lighting package in place of the folding mirrors for the same price as a good will gesture (seen as though they were just going to rob my money in essence). What do you guys think i should do? i don't fancy waitin an additional 8 weeks just to get the interior lighting fitted to the car. :(

tbh mate i would stick with what you have, the interior light pack is nice, but you won't miss it if you don't have it, i have it on my current S Line, and don't get people getting in the car and going 'oh, the lights in here are nice !' lol, i think all the lights you get are related to getting in the car, i.e. footwell lights, door opener lights etc, once you turn the key, they all go off anyway !. As long as you get your money back, don't stress, its the one option i picked that if it was not there i would not loose sleep.

Slightly off topic you really in afghanistan ?

pedalpower7, thanks for that piece of advice i guess you're right but i so wanted to do the LED upgrade lol (bought the leds already and all sorts). I guess if anything ill look to get a garage to do the retrofit for me.
Yeh i'm in afghan at the moment with the 7 signal regiment, will be out of here in a couple of weeks, after a full 6 month tour, i can't wait.

you can still do the led conversion, it's just that you'll have less bulbs to convert... :)

LOL true, very true. So if anything, not having the interior lighting pack is a GOOD THING!

Failing that, light some candles, i find the scented ones work nice :sm4:

CopyofIMG_0115.jpg

Supprised to see two other black editions also on 59' plates waiting for collection there. There was a Phantom Black (2.0TDI) and Ibis white

The other supprise was how dirty and covered in sticky marks and paper my car was. Oh well role on Sept!

I think i have been a bit slow on the uptake here, but why does the black edition not come with a Sline grill badge ?, it has the badges on the wings but not on the grill ?, my current Sline with the black styling pack has a grill badge ?.

First Post - First Audi...

I pick my Black Edition A3 5dr 170PS FWD up on Friday from Slough Audi. Hopefully will post some pics over the weekend after a quick wax.....!

Cheers!!

I did get my car on the 24th, but upon picking it up from the dealer I noticed that the preparation of the paintwork was really disappointing. I know that it is difficult to get a good finish on black, but the bonnet was shockingly scratched and had swirl marks that made it look like it had done 50,000 miles and been through a brush car wash fifty times. I was told it was part of the finish on Phantom Black, but after insisting we compare it with another phantom black car in the showroom, he agreed that it was unacceptable. I took the car on the condition that it would be resolved when the sales manager returned. Due to this, I did not wash it so as to avoid any accusations that I had added to it etc. So, to the car itself - fantastic! The new CR really is a step forward, and all round, can't really fault the car. So, so far, so good - paint work aside. I then started to notice, pretty much straight away that there was a constant whine from the stereo that matched the engine speed. I thought I was been pedantic this time, but a passenger also noticed it. I then took it to a local Audi garage to get a technician to confirm it was interference so when the car went back to where I picked it up from to get the paint work rectified, I would not get 'it's the turbo' etc. He also confirmed that this was not right, but that he had never come across this before.

So, Tuesday morning, a chap turns up with a courtesy car and takes my A3 away for the day, and as of tonight, Friday PM, they are still waiting for a reply from Germany regarding the stereo fault.

I, and the family, in the meantime are having to cope with a 09 Black Q7 S Line. And it pains me to say, I was glad when they said my A3 was not ready for the weekend. As I am only getting 19.8mpg from the Q7, I am sure I will cope when I get my A3 back....

Have a good weekend everyone - we are just trying to decide where we could waft to over the next couple days.......

In update this situation, Audi got back in touch with my dealer and said they could'nt do a retrofit of the interior lights package either. So no folding mirrors or lighting package. I sent an email to my dealer and end result was i got £300 off the price of the car which i'm happy about. Will probably use that saving to get the lights retrofitted somewhere else :)

Office finally agreed on Thursday to the petrol, so black editon 2.0FSI with phone prep, in red will be being ordered this week through Lex! Even though she'll be a company car, I will promise you it will have the deepest shine on the forum by the time Ive detailed her!

Gotta drive a damm insignia 2ltr SRI until it turns up though!!

:redrs4:

Hello All,

Just joined the forum today, been having a good look around for a few days and it has been really helpful.

I am about to get a new company car and have chosen the A3 Black Edition (Sportback) in Ibis White, have opted for Alcantara Leather, Heated Front Seats, Light & Rain Sensor Pack, Symphony Radio & Cruise Control.

Can anyone let me know how long I can expect to wait from when order is placed? I am guessing it could be a while as Audi have the BE on offer again until September??

Hi,

I reckon if you order now prob late November, maybe December. The factory closes down for a few weeks in August so it puts everything back.

I'm not sure if my options affect the timescale but I placed my order 25 May and delivery is expected at the start of October! :whistle2:

Maybe I ordered at the wrong time (peak demand) and yours will be at a quieter time and wont take as long? I keep telling myself the wait will be worth it though!

Hi

I ordered my A3 Sportsback 2.0TDI(140) Sline STronic on the 16th June 09 and have eventually got a build week 37 and I have more options than you. I know my stealer fecked up my order otherwise I would of got it three weeks earlier. I still have not managed to understand how Audi ordering system works, hopefully someone might be able to explain.

All change again with me...

Office agreed to the petrol last week, but now they have changed back to I can only have the diesel - residule value on Petrol was terrible so Lex stuck the monthly price up.....so new order now placed as follows;

A3 Sportsback 2ltr OilBurner Misano Red (whoohoo), Alcantara, Phone Prep, silver stitch.

Being told 8 week build time, but Im expecting more like 12 because of the preforwarned shut down.

Trying to find out which stealer is supplying it.....ensure it doesnt get a pre-clean through a mechanical car wash!!!

Hoping this is it now - really cant drive this 20" rim'ed Insignia for longer then 2 months....in case I start enjoying it!

Hello All,

Thanks for all the info regarding delivery times, hopefuly will be getting ordered next week and then the wait begins!!

I have been told that a Sport back will arrive sooner than a 3dr, i ordered 3 weeks ago and still do not have a build date, but in fairness have not hassled the dealer to get it, i am expecting October/November time:keule:

Hey im a newbie to this forum as well and just found it while googling A3 black edition's while waiting for mine to arrive!
I had a standered A3 before that got writen off after two years by a lorry, so went into the show room and saw the black edition and had to have it!
Was a little bit unsure of getting it in the 5dr as looses some of the sporty ness off it! however after seeing the pic's on here i am now happy!
I know there are loads of pics already of A3's on here but we all love looking at them so when i get it deliverd i will though some pics up of it!

Also does anyone know what the real fule MPG is for a 2.0TDI (140) is! i do loads of miles and am hoping it is not that far off the book amount! the 1.6 i had before i was getting about 27MPG so that was way out!

Thanks Greg

Hi Greg,

I've only had my 2.0TDI BE sportback (140) a week but have been with gentle running in & a motor way run, averaging around 45/50mpg. I don't know if this improves as the engine beds in but very well pleased so far!!

Yoshi :jump:

Waiting on my BE 140 TDi too... maybe this week
50 mpg, can't wait, beats the 18mpg I'm getting just now :sos:

Wait 'til you get some miles on the clock, it will keep getting better. I'm on 15k now and I easily get 57MPG on my daily commute to work. Same journey in my old 1.9TDI wouldn't give me any more than 45MPG!

The new CR TDI engines are very good :)

Ive got a 170 and i rag the ******** off it up and down the country, its amazing on fuel and if i take it easy can get 600 miles to the tank.. Brilliant engine..

Wow it just gets better and better! i do about 1000 miles a week so should be seeing the benifits real soon! i should be getting mine in about a week so will keep you guys informed!

Also you say they have the new CR TDI engines, are they less noisey then the last ones, as that was one thing that was putting me off?
