Please can somebody help me, I have managed to find a local garage that has let me have access to their vag com software when I need to use it but I was having a quick look today to try and enable the auto door locking feature and unlock when key removed from ignition but wasn't 100% sure what I had to do so left it for the moment. Would anyone be able to post up any step by step instructions on how to enable the auto door locking feature or point me in the right direction of instructions ?

thanks in advance

Not looked myself but is there anything in the A3-S3 questions and answers section on the vehicle selection page on here? there is a load of helpful ones and maybe a list of the code sections you need to look in

I haven't been able to find anything by searching the forums and wanted some step by step instructions so that I don't make a mistake and mess the car up lol.

here you go dave, ignore the first two columns, just take away the value ( the 3rd column ) from your existing code. take 32 from your amount shown will stop the doors auto locking.

there is a possability that your model supports long coding, if so then open the long coding helper in the module you want to adapt and there are tick boxes next to the descriptions. check or uncheck then save.

OFF 0 1 Great Britain- alarm system (only with bit 4)
OFF 1 2 flash on when arming/unarming alarm system
ON 2 4 selective locking 1 door/all doors
ON 3 8 activate alarm system
OFF 4 16 rear unlocking block via speed
OFF 5 32 locking via speed
OFF 6 64 comfort functions with remote (adapt in ch 62!!)
OFF 7 128 right side steering
OFF 8 256 avant (glass break sensors in rear side-and rear
windows (if error: safe-LED constantly lit ))
ON 9 512 1x flash when lock with remote
ON 10 1024 horn sounds when lock with remote
ON 11 2048 door/window-logic ( ignition off: No open door
el. windows works 10 min )
OFF 12 4096 normal/????-alarm system
ON 13 8192 No SAFE-function USA only
OFF 14 16384 insulate-glass PR-nr 4KR/4KV

To be fair 1WO that'll probably confuse things more. VCDS does have Long Coding Helper for the 8P.

Dave, there is loads of info on VCDS on here BUT if you have no experience with it then it can all seem very confusing.

Once you have VCDS in front of you it all becomes clear.

Click Select under 'Select Control Module'

Then you will see a screen like this:

SCM--Installed.png

From here you select the module you want to make changes to or read fault codes etc.

Nearly all the adjustments made on the 8P are in Instruments, Cent Elect[ronics] or Central Conv[enience].

In each one you'll see a screen like this:

open-controller.png

In instruments when you select Coding you will have a screen and a help bubble. For the other 2 you'll see one like this:

Click the Long Coding Helper button and you'll get something like this:

lcode1.png

It'll be different in each one.

From this screen you can select or deselect whichever options you want. The auto-lock and unlock are in either Conv or Elect I can never remember which. Make the changes, close that window and you'll see the new coding in the new coding box in the previous image. Just click Do It and and the coding will be sent to the car and you'll get a confirmation that it's been successful.

It is really easy once you've had a play.

While you have the access go through the 3 modules and make all the other changes you want too.

Instruments works slightly differently. You get a screen similar to this:

From there you put numbers in where the ?s are to indicate which options you want.

They'll probably have a professional version of the software but it won't be far off the above.

nice write up staz, at least i tried lol

i wish my car supported long coding with the helper, seems alot better.

Brilliant idea.....
Wife goes out unlocks car and puts kid 1 in with handbag and keys... goes back into house to get kid 2 and car locks its self.....Wife calls hubby 20 miles away at work to bring spare keys home to rescue kid 1. Husband arrives home and rescues kid 1 then calls solicitor to arrange divorce before realising he has left his keys in the Q7 which has also locked him out. ambulance is called to pick up wife who never should have laughed like that....Hubby gets on Ducati and goes off into the sunset to start new life. Kids are sold into slavery.......

Now how do i do this auto lock thing then ??

Er you have to be actually driving the car for it to lock Paddy lol It unlocks when you remove the key from the ignition.

Ahhh I thought this was one of those "i never remember to lock it when i leave it "things....

My mother had a micra that locked itself but the key had a chip in it so the car knew the key was in it...............So off she goes on Holiday and in the bottom of her suitcase is the spare key.......so she couldn't lock the car at the services without unpacking the suitcase.....
At least she realised the problem which i thought was pretty good for someone in their 80's

Thanks very much Staz for your help this was exactly what I was looking for as I wasn't 100% sure what I was doing today so didn't want to program anything as not used the software before.
You say to go through the other 3 modules and make changes that I want but what do you exactly mean by that, what other modules are you referring to and what other changes could I make as I am not totally sure ?
Is it possible to enable automatic rain sensitive wipers with vag com software as I have auto lights already ?
thanks

Not rain sensing wipers no as you'd need a rain sensor installed by the rear view mirror.

There are quite a few things that can be changed on the 8P. There was a good thread about it on here but it has been deleted.

This site has plenty of info but it'll seem very complex at first:

http://oooo-a3.blogspot.com/2006/02/a3-can-system-long-coding-worksheet.html

This is the 8P Wiki file from Ross-tech. It's not up to date but there is some useful stuff:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Audi_A3/S3_%26_A3_Cabriolet_%288P%29

On the 8P you can do things like disable seat belt warning chimes, hazards flash on emergency braking, instrument cluster lights on with ignition, confirmation beeps when locking or unlocking, selective unlocking/full unlocking and a few other things depending on your model.

Once you have the computer plugged in you'll see all the options. Most you either won't understand or will be not applicable. It's something you need to learn by trying though.

Another quite useful thing you can do with VCDS on the A3/S3 is change the headlight settings on Bi-Xenon and Adaptive Xenon headlights for driving in Europe. If anyone needs this, see my post #6 on the FAQs thread.

I also had my car changed by the dealer before I took delivery so that my instrument lights stay on all the time and not just when the cars other lights are on. I also had it changed so that that all doors unlock on one press of the unlock button on the remote, as I prefer it that way. Both of these can also be changed using VCDS.

Dont take any notice of 1wheel ... He cant go round and round in circles without falling off....(Donington wasnt it )
