A4 B7 Bumper adjustment

Hi Guy's I'm new to the forum
and looking for some advise Please

I've recently bought the OH an 06 Audi A4 2.0T FSI S-line and have decided to do a bit of modding, not a lot just little bit's here and there

main one being changing out the standard Headlights for these

although his e-bay add say's easy to install and works with automatic headlight adjustment....PAH!!!
I am feeling some negative feedback is in order for this bloke

Yeah, right !! when the motors in the standard headlights are moulded into place and cannot be removed

Easy to fit ?? yeah, once you figure out how to take the friggin bumper off, it's a doddle

this is where my question lie's
finally finished reassembling bumper back on, and have now noticed that there is an unsightly gap between the Grill and the Bonnet ( about 12 - 15 mm ) I know there are 2 adjuster's on the impact absorber bar ( cause thats where I went wrong ) slackening off the fixing torx screws, I noticed they were moving anti clockwise hence rising out of their seat, to remedy this I screwed them back down so they did not move, causing the hight of the bumper to drop

I did check the Bumper hight several times and it looked ok, but now my eye is constantly dragged to the gap

QUESTION !! Do I have to take the Whole friggin bumper of again to adjust these fixing's or can I keep tightening the Torx on top of the adjusters in a hope that the reversed threads will move bumper up ??
I don't wanna dismantle the feeckin thing again although it will be easier second time round

have also paired OH Blackberry storm through the cars blu tooth, but cant seem to figure out a way on how to get the contacts on the sim to go into the cars phonebook ??

Any advice greatly appreciated..........

On his writeup he does say not to touch those two adjustment screws, I would imagine its a case of suck it and see now that you have touched them

Keep adjusting then refit etc, the gap is a bit large though mate

All the ones ive seen have that gap including my brother inlaws .
i dont see how the gap can be closed when the rest of the gaps are good .

The gap can be closed by the two front adjusters Paul, all the rest of the fixings have very little if No adjustment with them, Yes I shouldn't have touched them, I know that Now " DOH!!" but if the Bumper is sitting in the same place all the time why put the two adjusters in the front,, go figure ??

So for my school boy error, it looks like bumper removal is on again
Then again..............I Have a Cunning Plan !!

The headlights adjust up as well then as the bumper cant go up much further because of them ,
post a pic when your done i may have some adjusting todo as well :thumbsup:

here is how it should look, although you can get it closer than that I would imagine, if you look at B7's on auto trader you can clearly see some have wider gaps then others

I like the new headlights you have put in though

I have been looking on auto trader as i want to change my 1.8Tq to a b7 S4 Convertible and came across a 7k mile 07 car with the same gap as you have.<see bottom pic>

K I chose the rough and ready fix here, mainly cause Im a Lazy bstrd

Would recommend if you are going to adjust the Bumper Hight, it would
Be best to remove the whole bumper !! and not go down the road I took

I removed the fixing Torx, losing one of the Plastic seats in the process
Anyone know of a good audi breaker LOL

And there is no physical way of getting them back on ( unless you remove the bumper)

The method I ended using was to remove the fixings and use a long flathead
Screwdriver ( Turning Clockwise, which lifts adjusters up )

The front of the bumper has now not got any fixings on it ( DOH!) but I’m
Confident it aint going to fly off as it is still secured at 7 fixing points
I’ll probably go back to sort that once I get a reply from the bloke I bought them
From, about getting the Headlight Motors reinstated

Next Mod is to put on the Calliper Covers

Anyway here is the result of the Highly Bodged Job

P.S. I aint joking about the Breakers, I hate things not being 100%

Now I was going to get a set of those headlights, stupidly thinking that they'd be easy to fit....

Sounds a right faff that you've gone through but the lights look cool.

How do you rate them, particularly at night and were they easy to connect?

you know something, if I'd been pre-warned I'd have to take the bumper off, it wouldn't have ****** me off so much

thinking about it ( now I DO know how to take the bumper off ) it's a relatively easy job, could probably do it in a couple of hrs

Still hacked off about the Headlight motors, but looking at the standard headlight it may be a case of dismantling both set's and
re-installing them in the new pair ?? still waiting for the bloke to reply to my Irate e-mail ( they are far too high )

wiring is simple, just plug em in and go ( exactly the same plug )

and they are smart at night, I'll try an get a photo up :icon_thumright:

Can you get to these Torx screws with the bumper on, access through the holes in the top of the grill / bumper next to two of the top torx screws attaching bumper, or do you need to remove the bumper to get access to the adjusters torx screws.

I thought, like you, that getting some long torx bits would allow me to move the bumper while in situ but it doesn't. All they do is act like a clamp. I took my bumper on and off about 16 times to get the height right. Massive chew on.

Is the gap bad at the front? If not then I suggest leaving it. Otherwise, is one side worse than another? Take the bumper off, adjust the large plastic screws slightly, put the bumper on (don't put any screws back on), close bonnet and keep pulling it off, adjusting and putting back on until it's right.

Worth noting to make sure you put the bumper on the right part of the adjustment screw as when you fix one side, the other sometimes drops down onto the wrong bit. You'll know what I'm talking about when you see the adjusters.

The gap is almost identical to yours, before you fixed it, so its a must.......drives me crazy every time i look at it.

I know what you mean, noone else notices but it kinda grows on you. Shredded the skin of my hands taking those 10mm bolts off but once it's done it's done. Don't know if Audi techs have a secret method of sorting it.

Did you sort out the headlight adjusters?
I've just bought them . Do all headlights have the auto adjustment headlights or are some manual?
I don't think mine have auto adjust
