Ive had the forge CAI fitted a month or so now and the ugly engine bay has annoyed me since. I looked into after market engine covers and decided against them so came up with the plan to butcher the original OEM cover. So I can put the car back to standard I purchased a spare engine cover from ebay for £50 as a new one from audi is about £130.

Heres the engine bay before with the CAI fitted, its not the best pic but you all know how ugly they look with the original cover removed.

I set to butchering the engine cover after I made the first few incisions

It would of been a bit to much hard work for the dremel so decided on the 9 inch angle grinder, bit over the top but did the job a treat.

after a few trial fits and a bit more cutting, the finished job

The modified cover uses the existing two front mounting points. I used a strip of double sided sticky foam along the back edge. The underside back edge sits across the top of the coil packs. I then used a cable tie to secure the cover down

Superb job matt as usual, don't expect anything less from a man like yourself. This is why you are talked about through the village as the 'David Beckham of Tideswell'

Nice work...I can see a bit of DIY coming on.....

Brilliant work Matt - best "aftermarket" solution to this I've seen (better than those crappy EVOMs ones). Just hope that spring washer and threadlocker combo holds out on the Forge !!

Looks much better IMHO, I tried the EVOMS cover when they first come out - Rubbish.

You can leave the rear fixings on if you think about it and cut carefully, I've done a few of these myself.

You don't have to wait for an Audi cover, they are all the same it's only the silver trim that differs.

Here's one I had on one of my Octy's -

Why did no one tell me the EVOMs was crap when I said I was going to order one! :aggressive:

Great mod Matt

now i have to find 2nd hand engine cover :banghead:

Like I said mate it doesn't have to be Audi, you can also carefully remove the Audi centre cover of your original one to use on a non Audi one if you wish.

yes. but first i have to find cheap one
nice little mod, cause that engine looks like crap :3sadwalk:

I've been told a TT-S one may work well. Obviously it will have to be purchased through dealer so will be costly, but I've been led to believe the MAF isn't attached to the engine cover like on the S3 (save so much modification of the cover). Yet to see one to confirm mounting points.

Yeah looks possible Warren, might not be straight forward though. Looks like the front locating peg might be on the top of the inlet manifold so I guess you could fit that but the rears look to be sticking up from the rocker cover.

Sorry for the big picture but it's better for the detail.

hmmm, thanks for that. May not be as easy as first hoped. Can only see 2 uprights to connect it and they are nowhere near the originals. But then if it was easy, it wouldn't be worthwhile!

So tts engine cover fits with no extra mods??? Cause I'm planning to get a CAI, I like the one of UNITRONIC.

There are two long ones and one short one. Mjr901 (i think) on here may be able to source them for you but it's these metal bolts that are the hard part of the kit to find! They are becoming a bit like hens teeth!
