My final version of Integrated LED DRL's

Did you check any legalities for the indicators being moved from the headlight sides to the middles, just curious if it is a lawful requirements or can be anywhere on front lights, its very good but the bottom line splits dont look right to me, but hey not my car so as long as you like then nice job.

I didn't to be fair - mainly cos a couple of VW's have them there as standard (MK4 Golf?)

I'm with you on that to an extent - although it looks fine when the side lights are on, which are also led's and mounted within the fog lights

So a how to on its way???:icon_thumright:

Yeah if you like.

  • Remove fog grills.
  • Cut a slit in the horizontal bars.
  • Cut perspex to size and place in slit.
  • Mount LED's behind perspex.
  • Fit back on car
:p

As for the indicator set up - it's done with a relay wired to each side - so that when the indicators switch on, the white led's switch off. Happy to share a diagram if you wish :readit:

Hmmmmm, is it the final though......

On reflection I think I'm going to extend both the 'running' and 'indicator' lights so that they also utilise the Fog Light lens...........cos it need's joining up.

I'll give it a go and share it for your feedback.

In the mean time - thanks for the comments:friends:

Aha you see, I jogged the thoughts a little, lol, go for it I think it will look better overall.

Mate, I have a theory - if you're only interested in positive feedback, you should seriously think before sharing what you've done on a forum :faint:

Therefore when you share 'improvements' you accept the praise  and learn from constructive feedback :readit:

Very well said indeed, so look forward to your next incantation of drl's.

wise words

loving the lights

It cant be, surely not, it is, wonders never cease, lol

Looks great!

You need to be buying up a load of grille inserts, wiring them up with the drls and selling as a kit with fitting instructions on ebay....money to be made on this one!

All done now :w00t:

I'll sort some video when I get round to it.......

Hey dont blame me, lol, I think it is better with the light in middle as it doesnt have that break anymore, I like, any chance of a distance view with the drl's on as think this vid is tad to close to judge it 100% even though overall technically its very good, well done mate.

They look a lot better.

What Leds have you used, or is it LEDs and a plastic cover? Either way, it looks spot on.

Only if you leave your car to me in your will, lol.

Anyway yeah much better, the break in line didnt look right before.

Nice but i hope you can disable them for MOT time .

I can - but I don't know why I'd need to - the new Audi's LED DRL's Dim when they indicate...........mine just dim a bit more than the oem versions

Only that your DRLs actually go off they are now flashing as an indicator thats the wrong colour ie not amber .

This is a snippet from the testers manual on indicators :

d. that every direction indicator emits amber light, except vehicles first used before 1 September 1965 where both front indicators may be white and both rear indicators red

e. that their operation is separate from, and not adversely affected by, the operation of any other lamp.

dont get me wrong i like them just thought you should be aware .

The indicators are Amber  and they're never on at the same time as the DRL's

Don't worry - no offence taken, I'll switch them off at MOT time :salute:

I must say they do look good.
If someone was to tell me it was OEM, I wouldn't have blinked an eye.

Nice work.

some bits I like... but some I dont..also there could well be some legal issues with the angles of visability and the distance of the indicator from the edge of the vehicle.

if I was you I would just leave the DRLs in the bottom on and not have them flash when the indicators are on, as this could be misleading and look neater.

but top marks on trying something out of the norm.

if you want to know the official angles that the light needs to be visable from etc let me know,

cheers

Karl.

Cheers Karl - I'm with you on both counts having lived with them for a few weeks :slapped:

I feel another version coming on, but much cleaner/simpler :faint:

Hi there,
i thought i'd ask cos you modified your foglights,
I have been wondering if there is a honeycomb mesh fog light part thingy that can replace the standard one found one the sline bumper. Ive just had a modest facelift to the rs4 grill with black surround and would like the mesh to cover fog lights aswell.

thanks
