new fuel pump

hi guys i have a post on here regarding my 1.9 tdi, its says that the code reader picked up on this
0226 start of inj control
control difference

was what it came up with.
back on his comp it means ....throttle position switch ( tp switch)
or app sensor accelerator position sensor

after speaking to one of my mates seams i can get a second hand fuel pump for my car, but im told it will need codeing to the car when its fitted. may i ask is this easy to do or dealer jobby. if i fit new pump and it is not the problem do i have to code the old pump again????

my mates 1.9tdi needed a new fuel pump and it was seriously expensive for both part and fitting (£900 seems to spring to mind).

if it is coming back with switch and sensor faults why do you think the pump is on its way?

because the bloke at our audi independant garage says hes never herd of that problem an hes sure its the pump, said its common??

do u reckon i should change the switch an sensors first or get pumped checked

think your bloke ios probably right but bet you could check a couple of switches with new OEM ones for change in your pocket before committing to the pump.
I think it is a bitch of a job, its why the dealers like it so much.

you could always get the switch and sensor and then take them back to the dealer if they don't solve the problem. "sorry wrong part number"!

i wouldnt be replacing £1k's worth of injector pump on a "i've never seen that before so it must be the pump" type opinion....

guys ive been to see every one today about my car and i went to the bosch agents who told me code 0226 is a problem with the pump.

normally the pump is nackered when it reads this code hence the car not starting.

i can get a second hand pump at a good price of some one but its off a 1996 car same engine the lot 1.9 tdi 90 bhp ahu type engine
a/ will it work on my car
b/ do i have to get it coded ( what is coding please and can any one do it)
c/ is it a easy job to do fitting pump or best to let garage do it??

If its the same engine code the pump should just work afaik.

You may need to tell the ECU that is has a new pump, how this is done will depend on the IMMO revision and suchlike.

As for the fitting, its probably doable DIY, but it will need some specialist tools to lock various pulleys etc on the timing belt in place while you remove it and refit the new one. If you dont have a good toolkit then it might be best to leave it to a garage.

Mine let go a few weeks ago - was doing x leptons on the outer lane of m42 when suddenly lost power. Was a quiet evening so limped over to hard shoulder and tried wouldn't start. had AA diagnose & recover to a Nationwide garage- at their prices was around £200 fitted (from memory).

The guy who fitted was small around 5"3 and at one point he (literaly) got into the boot to make some adjustements, amazing-would have broken my hip!!

Thought the fuel pump was located near the petrol tank- Think you may mean water pump?

If its a diesel it has two "fuel pumps"

Ones just a plain old pump that sits in the tank and pushes fuel to the engine.

The other is bolted to the engine and has lots of expensive complicated gubbins. Seen as hes getting a fault code though, i'd think it was the engine mounted injection pump, not the tank mounted lift pump that was at fault.

im told it dont have a pump in the tank, fuel is sucked up by vacuum in main fuel pump.

its still not working inj specialist tells me the pump is u/s. im trying to get a pump as we speak.
will it need to go to a specialist to be recoded any ideas pls, or wot does recodeing entail pls
