Hi Guys,

Been searching but cant seem to find anything although im sure its been dicussed before so if anyone can answer me in short and quick ill be appreciative...

I have an 58 S3 Manual, when you are at standstill and in neutral, if u rev it will only rev to around 4000rpm..? ive always wondered bout this but never really bothered finding out why it happens.. any help?

cheers

I never realised that was the function, always assumed it was to protect the engine in some way, certainly helps pass sound tests on track days. Mine is around 3,900 rpm, max on the move is @ 7,400 rpm.

isn't that some kind of safety?

deactivate the ESP and it should rev all the way up

This is an old question. It's launch control that was only fitted to 8P3 S3s. Why do you want to rev further?

I have an 09 2.0 TDI and in neutral it will only rev to roughly 3k - 3.5k rpm (not totally sure)

Stick it in first with the ESP off and it'll rev to the limit

the reason i wanted to know was because my pal said it was launch control but i dont see how i can work.. i though this was for auto cars?

yeahhh i knew u can get it to do it in 1st with esp off.. sorry should have explained better i meant whilst in neautral..

It's a pseudo launch control mate. i.e. you don't have to maintain the right revs with your foot to get a good start. I assume you just put your foot to the floor, the ECU keeps the revs at 4k and then when you drop the clutch it gives you a good take off!
