Apologies first, I know it is normal protocol to read the FAQ's but I am looking at a 2004 AUDI A4 AVANT 1.8T 190 Quattro S Line in the morning. I know all the normal type of questions when buying I just wanted to know if there is anything I should check in particular. I will read through the site as fast as I can but all help is appreciated. Nice to join and hopefully I will be getting my Audi shortly.

I'm not very familiar with the 1.8T engine, are you aware of the oil pick up issue? And their fondness for self destruction on the longlife service routine?

Obviously cambelt and all ancillaries etc - not teaching you to suck eggs ...

Good luck for tomorrow, let us know

thanks quattrojames, can you enlighten me on the oil pick up and the self destruction bit. Got me worried now!!

It's not my field of expertise, I prefer timing belt failure lol

But try THIS and THIS for starters.
Thanks for that, I think the message is change oil+filter between services for peace of mind. Any Idea how much a cambelt change is on the 1.8T?

Mine has just had it's 3rd variable service but I too change the oil and filter half way through.

I think Stafford Audi do a cambelt change for £350. Check e-bay as they advertise on there.

Generally a good all round car. So long as it's had it's routine servicing donw, should be pretty safe...

im going to look at one this evening, i hope its not the same one lol.

ooh that one above is very very well priced, but its the wrong colour :(
